When the mist and rain lifted we could see this resort is in a wonderful position with fabulous views but it's not a year-round destination. We had to book for August and, as expected, encountered late Monsoon rains which generally obscured the views. We booked a Valley View room which was pretty bare and cold. There were constant power and low voltage problems with the generators which meant dim lights and minimal hot water from the electric heater just when we wanted hot showers. There were no tea/coffee making facilities and no TV but with the low voltage it wouldn't have worked anyway. We were brought a candle and invited to sit in the library where there was more light. The library has a good selection of books and is over the dining room in a building rather like an Alpine chalet. Fortunately we'd brought our own umbrellas as there were none in the room to get you round the well maintained grounds in the rain, unlike other hotels we stayed in in Kerala. The food was adequate but not exciting and no drinks were available. We thought the Windermere very overpriced and, notwithstanding the wet weather which didn't bother us, one of the disappointments of our 3 weeks in India.
