“What an enchanting place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

I believe there's no perfect hotel. There are always some trade-offs. This place is 12 km from Munnar but it'll take you 40 minutes to get there. I don't see the appeal of staying right in Munnar. It's a typical Indian small town. You probably need to go there to change money, take the bus to some place, or do some shopping. Instead of the dusty and noisy city, Gruenberg Tea Plantation Haus offers you a small slice of paradise.

From my windows on the first floor, I can see the tea bushes just feet away and the misty mountains in the far distance. It's unbelievably beautiful. I have a balcony looking over a wooded area. At night I listen to a gurgling stream nearby when I go to sleep. I can also gaze at the stars through a telescope up on the terrace. When I wake up, a huge and delicious breakfast is served up in my room. I can have dinner on the terrace restaurant and price is reasonable. I mean we're all captives at the hotel so to speak. Once you return to the hotel to rest for the day, who wants to endure a 40 minute bone-rattling ride to town just to eat dinner? And yet, they don't overcharge me.

The room is large and well designed with 2-3 sides of glass open to the outside. It's full of sunlight. The stone floor feels really cool on your feet. Linens and bed are comfortable. Furniture is already showing some signs of wear and tear even though the hotel is less than 1 year old but still looks OK.

The staff are polite and helpful. You can rent a car with a driver for sightseeing for a day and I think the rate is also reasonable.

I endured a 4-hour bus ride from Kochi and this place alone really made that trip totally worth it.

What else can I say?

Room Tip: On a low floor closer to the back so you can have a nearby mountain stream lull you to sleep.

I want to be selfish here and don't want more people to know about this place. Gruenberg is a beautiful and contemporary boutique hotel with all modern amenities including a strong wifi signal and blue tooth loud speaker. It is located right in the middle of rolling tea plantations. The rooms have large windows and balconies to take full advantage of the spectacular setting in the mountains.
The Roof top restaurant surrounded by flowers with 360 degrees view of nothing but lush green mountains added just more to the lovely food offered. The staff were very polite and helpful who always offered their services with a warm smile made us feel at home. Rooms were designed with keeping the theme on mind, very clean, king sized beds, bathroom fitted with best quality fittings and also big and clean.
Our overall experience in Gruenberg has been excellent. We wait eagerly to visit the place again. Highly recommend it.

4 of us stayed here for two nights in early November, and had a fantastic time. The views from the room across seas of tea were simply stunning, and the staff could not do enough to help any request that we made, such as having an early breakfast made up when we had an early start for sight seeing. The restaurant on top of the hotel is also a fantastic venue to watch the sundown, and the evening food was full of flavour - in fact up there with some of the best we ate during our time in Kerala (and we ate well!). Having read some of the previous reviews was slightly concerned about the road to the hotel but it really wasn't too bad and our driver had no problem negotiating it. Many Thanks to Anand and all the team at the Gruenberg!

We visited gruenberg tea plantation haus this 1st of december. It was amazing. Mr.Anand the manager was really helpful enough and very kind which made our stay even more comfortable. The gruenberg provides pick up and drop as well as sightseeing arrangements for a fee. The rooftop restaurant was mind blowing. The view from the top is really amazing. U can feel the pleasure once u are there! The rooms are clean and the staffs are kind. I have to mention about the food. The food provided was simply superb. Its a place which gives u a romantic feel and it is the ideal place for couples especially honeymooners. We look forward our next stay at Gruenberg once more..

A nice German name for this very nice property! Though this inn is bit far from the main town you don't mind that much once you get in to this place surrounded 360 degree with tea plantation and a unique room with 90 degree view of the tea estate..very spacious and well equipped rooms, limited but very tasty food, warm staffs all make a very good value for money..A special thanks to Anand and team for special care they take for the guests here..Keep up the good work.

The hotel has an amazing view of tea plantation. Great view from the flowered roof top restaurant and room. Spotless rooms with all modern amenities. The food was delicious and staffs were helpful.

There is free WiFi in all area of the hotel and Bluetooth enabled speakers in the room to listen your favorite tracks from the mobile.

In all, a highly recommended place to stay and get pampered.

In a hill station that has seen a recent splurge of resorts and hotels, Gruenberg really stands out as a unique little hotel that promises an experience like none other. While there are several large resorts like Club Mahindra and Sterling, and several "cliff-view" hotels, there is nothing like Gruenberg.

Located in the middle of a tea plantation, this little gem has just 5 rooms, which makes the overall experience very cozy and personal. The hotel itself is a very small building that has an interesting mix of traditional and modern design. Coupled by the fact that it is surrounded on four sides by the plantations and trees, it really has a heavenly getaway feel. We reached the hotel at night well after it turned dark, so we really had no idea where we were as the area is quite dark. But when we woke up next morning, we were stunned by the incredible views on either side of our room (yes, there are windows on two sides). The hotel has a terrace restaurant where we were served a sumptuous breakfast the next morning. The staff is incredibly friendly and the hotel manager Mr. Anand was extremely helpful, all the way from giving driving directions to our cab driver to accommodating a last minute change in our plans that forced us to check out early.

If you are looking for a quiet getaway and want to surround yourself by greenery in the form of forests and tea plantations, this is the place to go to! Highly recommended!
