“THE PEFECT GETAWAY FROM CITY LIFE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Deep Woods was the best place that we could come up with when we had planned a getaway from the city life. We needed a calm yet cool place where six of us guys could hang out. Upon arrival, we were greeted well and were taken to a cottage of our own which was quite unusual. It was spacious and was well ventilated and we could actually play around inside the cottage. Sitting around the campfire in the cold, breezy climate of Munnar was exclusive to Deep Woods. The whole idea of "chilling" away from the city and blending into the nature proved quite right when we were taken for trekking and stuffs.Food was quite good as well. The fun six bachelors would have in a cottage of their own is quite imaginable.

Pros :

1. Location is excellent
2. GM is a professional and well experienced
3. Care takers for the villa were excellent people

Cons:

1. Villas look very good on photographs and on the net, exteriors looks good, interiors are pathetic, bathroom doors have no latches, no fans - munnar is warm and humid during the summer, linen was not changed daily, beds were damped, most of the channels are not subscribed

2. The most pathetic of all is their resturant, they have limited breakfast and repetitive for all 3 days we stayed there, people in restaurant are people from estates who have no clue on service, house flies all over the food, takes 15 to 20 minutes to replenish the food ( attached photographs and they don't lie)

3. As I understand, the villas are not owned by Deep Woods, it seems the GM hands are tied up and the comfort villas are sad, felt cheated

4. By no means this is a resort, it is a estate turned to small time lodge kind of service, with the same tariff, you can get far better resorts in Munnar

5. There are no activities for children, if you are going there as a family by yourselves and not as a group, you will regret.

This was an amazing place to stay for 2 nights! From the moment you check in, you are at peace. No cars, no horns, no loud noises, nothing! It is just blissful and a breath of fresh air from the day to day life of India!! You are greeted by wonderful staff who were friendly, helpful and caring. Most of the employees English wasn't very good, but there are some staff who have fantastic English...Like the chef, the General Manager and the Hotel Manager. My room was spacious, and beautiful. (I stayed in the main house). Because I was travelling alone, the staff were extra helpful and gave me a tour down to the waterfall in the forest, and introduced me to a man who lives in a tree house in the forest. They were very helpful in explaining Indian culture, and were great company for me because I was travelling alone!! The food was amazing, fresh and wonderful... The chefs were kind enough to let me into the kitchen to watch them cook and even had a try at rolling out chippatis! YUMMMO The tea plantations were just green and lush and just beautiful!!
I highly recommend this resort for singles, couples and families!!

The Deep Woods Resort was a wonderful place to stay. I am riding around southern India on a motorcycle and the Deep Woods Resort was a great break from the open road. It is located in a secluded place in "Tea Country". Just the 10km drive from the main highway (NH49) will let you know you've chosen the right place! The rooms were large and clean. The reastaurant serves up good food. And the "birdsong" in the morning and evening will make you feel as though you are staying in Paradise. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I'd give the location a 6 if it were possible on a 1-5 scale.

We stayed at deep woods resort for 3 nights last week. There is another entry on trip advisor for pulimoottil estate which is the same property. Deep woods resort inside pulimoottil estate. It is a collection of rooms and individual cottages in the midst of a forest of sorts. We were travelling with two little children and were upgraded to a 4 bedroom bungalow.

Positives:

1. The privacy. Bungalows aren't placed next to each other.
2. Our caretakers- A very warm couple who took care of all our needs, some slightly out of the way. Traveling with kids and my dad with slightly specific dietary requirements, the caretakers were very helpful.
3. Surroundings- located in the midst of the forest, the ambience was good. The property has been maintained well. The entire premises was very clean. A very good standard of housekeeping was maintained everyday.
4. The small swing outside the bungalow. All of us took turns to sit on it early in the morning and late at night.

Negatives:

1. Without a personal vehicle, the resort in itself is thoroughly inaccessible. The terrain is uneven and the roads involve steep slopes throughout the premises. If you have walking difficulties or are wheelchair bound, please ensure you come with your vehicle.
I heard that they offer a pick up and drop to the bungalow for breakfast at the restaurant but we didn't avail it.

2. The only mobile network that has some coverage is BSNL. We did use the landline but it wasn't very clear.

3. The geysers weren't fully functional. It would work only in the master bedroom. Though they tried to help, we found this a little inconvenient.

4. After settling the bill and staying around the reception area for a while longer, once we left the premises two people chased us in a minivan as they hadn't charged us for the cake we had ordered. This behavior was rather unprofessional. We were stopped on the road and asked to pay INR 216!

The location can be either a positive or negative depending on what you are looking for. It is 13kms from the town of Munnar on Mankulam road. So if you are looking for a getaway from any kind of hustle bustle, this is a good option. Instead if u'd like to visit a lot of tourist spots in a couple of days, you should look to say in the town. Please note that while they try to meet all basic requirements at the bungalow, it is impossible to find any other way to buy something unless u travel to the town.
The driver is given accommodation and food at the drivers' dorm but our driver said it wasn't satisfactory and chose to sleep in the car instead. They are specifically barred from staying in the bungalow.

We were in all satisfied with our stay there. I would suggest this place to large groups who want to enjoy a good break without much contact with the outside world.

If you've come to Munnar for a break from the city's hustle bustle, you just have to stay at the Deep Woods Resort which is popular as Pullimootil Estate Bungalows among the locals. The place is beautifully nestled in the Letchmi Tea Estate and the prettiest tea gardens can be seen en route to the resort! The place is scarily calm and a must-stay! The one star less for a couple of things- One, the restaurant is a trek down the main area so you have to ask for the reception to arrange the cab to drop you back to the atrium. Second, you have to order the food on the phone before you physically reach the restaurant (no one knows why :P)! A few pointers- the resort is 20 kms from the main Munnar market (just a 10-12 min drive) and they charge 20% additional for the room service. But overall, these things can totally be ignored for the bliss the resort offers in terms of tranquility!

Room Tip: The top floors offer a beautiful landscape of the woods

Since we were let down by the original place we had planned to stay we decided last minute to book into 'Deep woods'. We were pleasantly surprised by the large size of the room & Cottage , which accommodated our family of four easily. Amazing Location .We were not very impressed with the breakfast and dinner. Even though it was Indian food on offer it...
