“Top notch place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights, one full day.

Journey from kotchi to Spice Tree was 5 hours. A very long trip. Be warned some areas of the roads are rough. And can take its toll. And to find toilet stops are rare.

The resort itself is amazing. They only have a limited amount of rooms to provide, but this is what makes it a good place. More attention to guests and no effect on quality to service. We arrived end of January, at the time only 4 rooms occupied. Weather was good. About 15 degree in the night and about 19 in the day. Can be cold at night if it is windy. Which happens often.

Staff are very attentive and helpful + kind. Can not be faulted. More then 2 nights are needed. I would say 3 full days. There are activities available from reception. We took a hike down the hill and back. Not too difficult. Can take a rickshaw back up, as its steep. Also took a trip into tea plantations and nearby river. Very beautiful and lots of photo opportunities.

Food is a good range. If the resort is quiet then some foods will be not be available, as its costly for them to keep everything. But with even with 4 rooms being occupied there are many options for food, specially for vegiterians. They cater for all.

Rooms are amazing. Ours had an amazing view, jacuzzi, and large bed and room. Thoroughly enjoyed the spotless clean rooms. My wife had a massage with a female staff and she likely it a lot. In terms of rupee to pound sterling, it isn't too pricey, just right.

Some people mentioned the road to the resort. This was 90 percent complete when we were there. So should be done by now.

All in all an amazing place. January is the best time to visit in my opinion. One of the best places I have stayed in the world.

We visited the Spice Tree whilst touring en route from Munnar to Kumily. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night, but still managed to find time for the tea tasting education and a short sunset walk. It's a lovely little hotel and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. Our room was excellent - thoughtfully furnished, emaculately clean and a top class bathroon including jacuzzi. The food was very good and breakfast on the balcony overlooking the valley was a real treat. It would have been great to have stayed another day and taken in a longer walk in the mountains.

We saw this place was supposedly the best place to stay in Munnar on Trip Advisor and nothing in our experience changed mind. Our group booked 4 rooms in Spice Tree Munnar during the second week of January, 2014. The staff were very polite and respectful right from the booking process to throughout our stay at Spice Tree. Staff at the reservation center gave us perfect directions to reach the place, information about the places to go/see nearby and even went further to provide us with a guided jeep safari to the nearby Kolukkumalai, and "Muniyara". Despite the busy January tourist crowd from all over the world (all the rooms were full!), the Hotel Staff were very efficient and at our service 24/7. We had amazing dining experience at the restaurant in the lower level. The restaurant is homey and clean, decor is amazing, particularly at night with westwardly winds, eco-friendly lights and candles! We tried pretty much everything in their extensive menu; food served were fresh and delicious, particularly the traditional Kerala Lunch served on banana leaf (be prepared to leave sometime for nap afterwards though!) and the super delicious morning breakfast with fresh fruits, variety of Dosas, and endless amounts of coffee and tea! Oh! by the way, I have never seen a hotel/restaurant in Kerala that has gone "green" like the Spice Tree Munnar with their solar powered water heater, drinking water purified by reverse osmosis and served in glass bottles, food prepared from organic and locally grown vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Amazing stay! I would recommend this place as the # 1 choice for anyone who visits Munnar.

Room Tip: Tips: Two things: First, ask for the special "Kerala Cocktail" by the Bartender with herbs...

I stayed here while on a study abroad to India. This was an amazing experience and one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at. The staff were so nice! The complementary tea tasting, walk on the mountain, and yoga were amazing and I would highly recommend anyone staying there to take advantage of these opportunities. I also got to experience such a variety of food there, including the traditional Kerela meal...all of the food and drinks were amazing and helped me experience the culture with the food more! I loved my stay there and have highly recommended it to friends if they are ever in that area

My study abroad trip group had the opportunity to stay two nights at Spice Tree Munnar during our time in India. The hospitality was amazing! The staff went above and beyond in every area possible. The food was well prepared and delicious at every meal we attended. Our room was well maintained and the staff took notice of our favorite candies and provided us with more of that time when they cleaned the room! We used the spa while we were there and the staff were very professional and talented. I would absolutely stay at Spice Tree again, it was the nicest place that I have ever been!

Important Things first...i was stunned by the hospitality displayed by the staff of the resort - be it the manager or the restaurant staff or front office manager or the chef ! Our sumptuous meal at the hotel was proof enough to a good day at Spice Munnar. The rooms are really spacious and luxurious. The approach road to the hotel may seem like a trickey one but their personalized service seems to score higher than the tough approach road. Surely recommend people to stay at this property.
