“Once in a lifetime adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Amazing place , but horrible journey that too only by 4x4 jeeps.....next to getting your back displaced. But if one can survive then rest is history. Amazing place....Factory, tea estate, World's highest tea garden/Factory. One can go through all the processes of tea making. Which is rarely allowed to witness in most of the tea factories. Amazing surroundings....Must watch but take caution for the road.....only healthy/no elderly

“Worth the pain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

The place is a bit far from Munnar and last leg of journey from Suryanelli to Kolukkumalai is not a friendly one but the views from top, the feeling is worth the pain.

The place has highest organic tea gardens in the world and is situated at about 7130Feets above MSL and is above the clouds. It is windy and chilly most of the time.

Munnar to Suryanelli is about an hour's drive (30KM) then one need to hire a 4X4 as the road is full of big boulders and its even difficult to walk on it. The Jeep with expert driver takes about 2-2.5 hours to reach the top. The views of Tamilnadu plains and the mountains are simply breathtaking. Its a one day excursion from Munnar. We paid INR800 for the roundtrip from Suryanelli to Kolukkumalai and after coming back, I found it a steal as the drive is really tough and the vehicle moves in 1st gear most of the time.

One must include this in the itinerary while visiting Munnar.
Caution: Not suitable for Aged people and those suffering from back pain, joint pains. The journey to and from is literally back breaking.
