firstly beware - yes, the hotel has fantastic views, but if you (or your agent) do not specifically book a room with a view, you may be given a back room - view, at best a mud slope with some nice flowers on it - at worst a wall of mud!!
and - the rooms - ALL the rooms that we saw (about 6) varied from filthy to mildly dirty. marks on the walls, a damp black fungus covering about 3m2 on the ceiling; scratched and dirty-looking toilet seats, coffee rings (or worse) on the surfaces, cracked drains, dirty windows throughout the hotel;sticky floors. No kettle, not even the free bottled water you get just about everywhere else. Although generally willing, the staff mostly could not understand basic english demands, and many simple requests (black tea no sugar - arrives with coffee) took 3/4 times to get right.
In addition the 'gym' was ill-stocked, including - one walking machine that nearly catapulted me across the room and then stalled continuously - after that i left it!
In mitigation, after significant pressure from ourselves and our travel agent, we were moved to a cleaner room with a better view, and, when i showed room service, they changed the loo seat, and cleaned everywhere i pointed out was dirty.
the area is gorgeous, but without some real proof they have cleaned up their act ( the duty manager vehemently denied the hotel was dirty) I would not touch it again with a barge-pole. Support somewhere that really cares.
ask for a room with a view. check it is clean before you take it, and if the loo-seat needs replacin...

I was truly shocked to see your review to say the least. Our website and reservation team readily provide the information that valley view rooms are the preferred option for first time guests while the standard rooms that overlook our internal garden are the budget option . Time and time again travel agents agents do not match rooms to guest expectations and try and wrangle for a free upgrade- which is exactly what happened in your case too, I am sorry to say ! Hence the extreme dissatisfaction and even non-issues like “unclean” rooms that you have aired in this forum .
Sorry Ma’am but we beg to differ and rightly so , becoz if any of our hotel rooms were this downright ‘dirty’, we could never have garnered such a sterling reputation for ourselves as one of the best in Munnar !!
We take pride in our hospitality Ma’am and am forced to explain further to set things right herein
I really went into the heart of the matter, checked our records, talked to the team and realized the following …. On finding that you had booked rooms without the valleyview , you simply went on to find fault with almost everything in the rooms ( including scratches on the toilet seat , which taking into account the exacting standards of foreign guests we changed! ) . Then the travel agent as expected , proceeded to beg and coerce us for a free upgrade to continue your 3 day reservation with us !! And before I forget to mention , on the second day when valleyview rooms became available you were eventually given a free upgrade and happily proceeded to stay two more days with us ! ( It was hoped that you would have been appeased and enjoyed your stay with us...but that was not to be I guess )
( if the rooms and the service were as bad as mentioned , would any guest stay any further ?? Can just an amazing view make up for everything else ? I really don’t think so Ma’am….)
Regarding the rest of your grievances…
While I am sorry for your experience in the gym Ma’am , may I assure you that the treadmill gym equipment underwent maintenance service very recently and on rechecking find that it is in good working condition. Perhaps the touch button selection would have led to some confusion resulting in abrupt periodic timeouts .
Have also taken your comments regarding order taking seriously and have made some changes in SOP to ensure that such mistakes are not repeated. We have consciously involved local youth in our team who are trained to speak atleast some English but they could have faced problems while deciphering accents . I understand and am truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Anyway , all things done and said , this has certainly been a learning lesson for our reservation team …to exact upgradation charges in future to prevent such manipulations and hopefully that will lead to more satisfied guests that leave Misty Mountain with a genuinely happy holiday memory of Munnar !!
Its rather unfair to come to a three star property , pay the basic standard room tariff and expect five star comforts
