“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Have stayed at Seagrape Plantation several times now and each time has been a great experience. The manager, Mariela, does a great job and is very helpful with whatever yours needs are. The dive operation is top notch. It is a safe place to stay and the rooms are very clean. The entire staff is very friendly and accommodating. Love staying in the bungalows right on the water. Feel like I am going home on each visit.

Seagrapes is a delightful, family-run establishment at the tip of West End. It is neither over the top luxury nor a junky Roatan place. The rooms are clean, cool, safe, affordable and the staff is friendly, welcoming, helpful and sincerely accommodating.

A place like Seagrapes is hard to come by. They have cute bungalows, a nice pool, and a spot to walk right into the ocean, affording you a chance to snorkel at just off one of the great dive sites. It is an easy walk to the businesses of West End and quiet, without any of the noise of other places to stay along the coast road. The folks there will help you out finding your own adventures.

They offer you a little fridge, hot water, secure quarters, as much as you like clean drinking water and any help you might need learning the environs. If you are on a super tight budget it may be too much, as for a few dollars more you can get the more luxury places, and for less, well, you can always find less, but you will not find many loud mouthed Americans here and the site offers a really calming and relaxed setting compared to the busyness of other sites.

If you are staying a while it is good to know they don't have kitchens, but if you are an eat out person you are in fine shape. They will also come get you from the airport and you won't be ripped off. Give them a call and ask and you will feel quite pleased to try Seagrapes -- I stayed an extra week just to dive there and it began to felt like home.

Room Tip: Bungalows are cute with hammocks and a sea view, but you don't even need one - they have nice ba...

Seagrape Plantation Resort & Dive Shop - located in a quiet residential area of West End. Seagrape Plantation sits on the iron shore yet is a leisurely stroll from the beach on Half Moon Bay and all that this lively community has to offer. Seagrape offers duplex bungalows or hotel room accommodations, both in a well kept garden setting. The hotel rooms come with cable TV. The bungalows have their own private porch with hammocks, perfect for relaxing while looking out to the sea. This is a perfect place to watch for dolphins playing, cruise ships passing or the breathtaking tropical sunsets. All rooms have ceiling fans, a/c, hot water, a mini fridge and drinking water. The beautiful fresh water pool is a god sent on those blistering hot afternoons or for a quick dip before turning in for the night. You can also shore dive or snorkel directly in front of the resort.

Seagrape offers snacks and sodas for purchase in the office. They also make available in the office complimentary coffee for guests. Although they do not have a restaurant, there are numerous bars, restaurants, mini marts, or BBQ's on the beach and all are only a short walk from the resort. The staff will be happy to provide suggestions or direction. Seagrape Resort will also be happy to provide island/toutist information, rent snorkel gear, offer laundry services, arrange island tours, dolphin experiences, fishing trips, car rentals, flight re-confirmations or whatever your needs or desires. There is also a small book exchange available to guests and Internet (and computers) are available for use at the office as well.

Seagrape's Dive Shop is newly renovated and equipped with some of the best dive equipment available. Their boats are some of the best of all the dive shops in West End. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Seagrape Dive Shop will cater to whatever your need or desire regardless of your skill level. If you are not a diver, you might consider taking the Discover Scuba course while you are there. Let the staff at Seagrape Dive Shop show you the wonders of what lies beneath their tropical waters.

Whether your stay is one that includes diving or just some well deserved R & R, Seagrape Plantation Resort will quickly win you over. This resort is a perfect location for families, couples and solo travelers alike. Everyone from the Owner (who lives on site), Mariela, the resort manger, the housekeeping staff, grounds keepers, dive shop staff & boat captains ... they will all treat you like family. This local family owned and operated resort will make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. You will want to return again and again as so many or their guests do. After 18 years (and numerous changes), I continue to call Seagrape Plantation my home away from home.

I stayed here for 3 days with a friend and it was a great spot. It is at the end of the action so it is quiet and peaceful aside from the crashing waves which are awesome. Our room was plenty big enough for two and the bathroom was a great size. Plenty of room to spread out. It was great having AC and a fan too. The room has purified water and a small fridge which came in handy. The deck was fantastic with the hammock to lounge in. You also get a great view from the pool which is a very decent size and plenty of chairs to lay out. I also liked that they had a covered area when you needed a break from the sun. My favorite part was walking out on the "pier" they had and seeing crabs running back into the ocean. The staff was friendly and helpful and arranged transport to and from the ferry. Though if it rains, be prepared to walk through a total mud pit to town. Flip flops, are not ideal for rainy weather!

The location was easily walkable to town where the shops, bars, and restaurants were. Also, you can catch a water taxi to the West End and visit the nice beaches there. You can also easily and safely walk to the Butterfly Garden attraction. The only down side is no food or drinks onsite. You have to walk into town to get pretty much anything (and expect some restaurants to be out of items on their menus!). This wasn't a huge problem, but would have been nice not to have to trek in for a drink before dinner.

I would definitely stay here again. It was a great value and nice introduction to Roatan.

This was a great place to stay- economical with all the amenities – pool, AC, wi-fi, dive shop, great snorkeling with unique topography right off the dock, drinking water and the highly acclaimed Dive Master, Tony. There is no beach, but you don’t need it. Tony, the dive master was great. Apparently he was born in the ocean, and it doesn’t surprise you. He has a real zen vibe that puts you at ease instantly. He was a bit quiet at first, but opened up once he knew that we were at ease and comfortable (we were first time divers).

Mariela at the front desk was so helpful and patient and always had a smile, no matter how many questions we asked. I would highly recommend this place to stay and dive. Seeing the other places, it was surprising that this place was such a value. Its at the end of town, about a 5 minute walk from the main strip which makes it quiet yet close enough to run to the little downtown area whenever you need.

I would recommend this hotel. My sister and I just stayed here for 5 days. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean and reasonably priced. The staff members are really nice and helpful.
The hotel conveniently located with its own dive shop and has a pool and right on the water.
I would also recommend the hotel to anyone looking to dive, or to learn to dive for the first time. The diving instructor, Tony is great! He is great at his job and very knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. He instructed me with my first dive, and many more. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

My friend and I had stayed here for one night on 4/22. We had decided to divide our stay between West End and West Bay, so we were coming from West Bay. West Bay beach is definitely much more gorgeous than West End, however there are far more things you can do in the West End that you can't do if you stay in West Bay. For instance, 90% of restaurants are located in West End. We found ourselves wasting cab fare/ water taxi fare to our commute to West End each night we stayed at West Bay.

Seagrape is located in West End, and is within about a 7-minute walk to the main street. Everything in West End is walking distance to Seagrape, so the location is really great. HOWEVER, of the 7-minute walk to the main street, about 4 minutes of it is on a dust road. At night there are only 2 very dim street lamps and so it was sort of scary for us two girls to walk to the main street to and fro late at night. Although nothing had happened to us, you can never be so sure for the future so just take precaution:)

We stayed at a bungalow with a double bed for one night. The room was clean, and there was a mini refrigerator that was included in the price. The hot showers were nice. The price for the double bedded bungalow was USD $60, which I think is very reasonable to split amongst two people.

There is an internet room right in the reception building. The rate is $1 for 15 minutes. Internet is not speedy but reasonable. They have a USB converter for an SD card so you can transfer your photos from your SD card right into the computer each night if you want (which I HIGHLY recommend you do especially if you are a diver and take photos underwater because my camera got flooded on my first dive and I almost lost all my photos from my SD card).

Mariela, the manager of Seagrape, was very kind. I think she is one of the main reasons people come back to this place. She helped book our ziplining/Gumbalimba Park tour. She also scheduled a pickup taxi to our airport. She is very warm in her emails and is willing to do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. Thank you Mariela!
