Just got back last night. Had a fantastic time @ cocolobo. The Owner Rodrigo is about as cool as any james bond character you will ever meet, his staff is Fantastic the lady that cooks breakfeast is Terry and She is super sweet, ask her for an island breakfeast and you will not be dissappointed. It takes a very slow 5 minute walk to be in the heart of the west end, We are so glad we chose this place and not one in the west end. It is nice at night to hear the ocean instead of party music. The bar @ cocolobo is not open Yet, if your like me and like to have a few cocktails by the pool during the heat of the day i would highly recomend taking a collapsable cooler to put ice in. Also a small pocket flashlight is nessacerry.
things not to miss!
Cannaible cafe: Great food, Great Price, Great service Isabellea & Anna will take great care of you.
LandsEnd Pool Bar: A fantastic place to put the sun to bed, and Lars"the Bartender" and Linda"the Manger" are very sweet tell them Big Boy sent you.
Roatan Ricks: When you are hankering for a taste of home
Sundowners: Be very Careful of the Monkey LA-LA's
If you are comfortable with one dive master per 12 divers then diving with sea grapes is a good place to dive.
I will post a full trip report later but right now trying to adjust back to life in cold Kansas
p.s. If you enjoy the breakfeast and feel like it slide terry a few bucks b4 you leave they make very little there for what they do and she is on of the sweetest people we have ever met she will do all she can for you and if you do not make a happy plate she will think you didnt like her cooking"lol" tell her Darling & Sweetie said hello.

My husband and I had a terrific stay @ Cocolobo while staying in West End during April, 2007. It is far enough away from the nightlife/ restaurants to avoid the noise and disruptions but close enough to walk to everything within 5 minutes or less. The accomodations are by far the nicest I saw while visiting West End. I was a little leary at first seeing that Cocolobo is a new facility, and it wasn't even rated at all on Tripadvisor---which my husband and I always rely upon when making travel arrangements. However, after seeing other options online, I decided to chance it. Upon arriving, our doubts were definately put aside, especially after meeting Rodrigo, the owner/manager, and having our first breakfast the following morning (which is included, by the way). We met some really great people while staying at Cocolobo during our breakfasts, even someone from the state we live in. The facilities are basic but nice, new, and comfortable. The view and balcony cannot be beat. Cocolobo even has a small pool to enjoy that faces the ocean. Great place! Great price! I'll definately go back when we return to West End, Roatan!

The Cocolobo was the perfect hotel for staying in Roatan's West End. The West End is where all the action is and all the serious dive shops. And, this hotel is perfectly located about 2 blocks from all the action, with breathtaking views from the decks off all the rooms. Even the locals we met were impressed with this new hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and modern. They even have a docking station for iPods. The pool area is great and the bar is almost completed. The breakfasts served daily were delicious as was the Honduran coffee. And, I can forget the air conditioning, a must in Roatan. I can't wait to come back. Although we don't have kids, I would assume this would be the perfect spot to bring them because you're just enough removed from the main strip that it's not loud, but close enough to all the action when needed. (And if you need a dive shop recommendation, go with Native Sons. It's just down the street and they are better organized than the others we saw. They have great instructors and once they get your information down they'll have everything all ready to go for each of your dives. It's like your part of their family for your stay.)

I stayed at Cocolobo in April shortly after it first opened and it was an excellent choice for me. The room was new, large, and clean. It is right on the water and the view can not be beat. The breakfasts were very good also. It is a short walk to town and all the dive shops and restaurants but is far enough away so that you no not hear the noise from the bars late at night. Of course if you are in the bars that is not an issue. It is by the point off the bay and there was always a breeze to help keep the dreaded no-see-ums down. I do wish there were screens on the windows and sliding doors. It was not a problem during the day. When I was in the room I kept them open with no problem. But in the evening the flying insects would come out (as in all of Roatan) so I had to close the windows and sliding doors and use the a/c. I would have preferred to leave them open and listen to the water. During a very bad storm one night some water did drip into the room and I hope that can be addressed. It did not cause me any problem. I considered giving Cocolobo an above average rating instead of an excellent one because of the mentioned issues but I had such a great time and enjoyed the room, the personable and helpful staff, and the views so much that I thought it was excellent. Cocolobo is really more of an Inn than a hotel.
