“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

My wife and I went to Roatan in the beginning of February and chose to stay at Cocolobo based on reviews here. We stayed in an upstairs king bed room that overlooked the ocean. The rooms were very clean and the balcony was amazing. Breakfasts were always delicious and it's just a short walk to town. We look forward to returning soon.

We spent a fantastic week in January 2013 at Cocolobo, the only week in a long time when rain and wind outdid the sun. The crappy weather didn’t affect those who came to dive but the pool wasn’t crowded, and the rainy weather made for great afternoon naps.

Ron & Bonnie are great hosts, anticipating the needs of travelers who took two days to get there, divers who returned to the hotel tired after a long day, and those of us who hung around the bar/lounge area playing cards and backgammon, surfing the net, and hanging out with each other. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped; the hot breakfasts were yummy; the coffee delicious; and being able to borrow umbrellas and flashlights was a bonus.

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is well situated; it’s away from the busyness of West End, but just a short safe walk to get there. Of course you have to pass Sundowners on the way so be sure to check out the spicy chicken wraps and have a Salva Vida anytime of the day but especially when the hockey games are on tv. We also ate at Earth Mamas, Titas on the beach, Rotisserie Chicken, and Roatan Oasis – and we recommend all of them.

Definitely worth a return trip …

This little slice of heaven off the main area is a gem. It feels removed from the main street but is just a 3 minute walk to the closest dive shop. The friendly *Canadians* who run the hotel are accommodating and great hosts. They will try their best to answer all your questions. The food for breakfast is good (hot meal option and always yogurt/fruit available) and view from the room amazing. This may sound strange but it took me a while to be able to sleep with the sound of the water so close. It would be great if the internet worked in the room but it only works in the main area. Lots of electricity shut-offs but that is expected and part of the fun. Be aware there are a million different bugs that eat you alive no matter if you use the net or not. You can't see them or hear them.

We arrived to CocoLobo after a turbulent two days of travel due to windy/rainy conditions to a wonderful reception from Ron and Bonnie, the managers of CocoLobo, with Ron stating "Can I buy you a drink?"
So far, so good! Just want to figure out the Happy Hour thing??

Room Tip: Love this place second floor views are the best!

It has been almost a year since my boyfriend and I stayed at Cocolobo but the bad time we had there its the bad kind of unforgettable. After staying 1 night we couldn't stand being there one more minute. Everything there sucks, the hosts, the rooms, the location(back then, road under "construction"), the price (not worth it). The only good thing about our short stay was the delicious breakfast. I booked 4 days and 5 nights, we stood there only 2 nights but was charged the whole stay!. We ended up staying at the Coconut Tree 2 in West Bay where they charged us 1/2 the price.

I am amazed that this place isn't booked solid year-round. It is quiet, safe, pleasant, and the service is excellent. Not a typical resort or 4 star hotel, but that is exactly why I love it. No kids, beautiful views, and huge balconies.

Breakfast is routinely excellent, there is a small infinity pool and sunning area, and the pace and feel is unhurried, relaxed, and simply delightful.

The only suggestion I have is for them to put dividers between the balconies in the main building. While I was lucky enough not to have neighbors, I don't know anybody who relishes sharing such personal outdoors space. So investing a few hundred bucks to build a privacy wall between the two would make this place about as perfect as it gets.

Room Tip: They all have stunning sea views. Ask for a private balcony if they have one.

Stayed here for a few nights and enjoyed the atmosphere and distance to town. It took 10 minutes to walk to all the shops and restaurants. Hotel is on the ocean, and a 5 min walk to the beach.

I went to Roatan to dive, that seems to be the best experience of this island. Don't expect high end luxury, but do expect amazing diving. Recommend using Enomis Dive shop, first class, good price, small group and personal attention...and they'll have all the gear on the boat ready for you.

Breakfast was good, fresh fruit and good coffee each day.
