My friend and I just spent a week at the Mayan Princess and had a great time. The resort is beautiful and the beach is fabulous. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the dive shop was great. I did feel that some of the hotel's claims were not valid, e.g., we did not have cable television or wi-fi in our room. Also, most resorts in Central/South America where you cannot drink the tap water provide bottled water for free, but this was not the case at the Mayan Princess (1 Liter of water was $2). That said, everything else about the resort is great, including the complimentary breakfast every morning. Just be sure to find out the days that the cruise ships are docking on the island and avoid the beach on those days as it tends to be overrun with cruise ship people.

“Overpriced, terrible service”

We had heard great reviews about this hotel, but our arrival alone set the tone for the terrible service we received throughout the long weekend we spent here. We missed the flight in on Friday night, so did not arrive until Saturday. Although we had to pay for Friday night's stay (despite efforts on the part of TACA to the contrary), when we arrived, one of our two rooms had been let to another person. The manager offered a "free" upgrade... a 2 room suite (for one person) even though she paid for an oceanfront view! Not much of an upgrade in my book. Overall, the staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. Our room had no towels and by 1130, when we arrived, there were also no towels for the pool or beach. We had to ask 4 times for towels and did not receive any (either for our room or for the beach) until 7 hours after our arrival. After 2 phone calls requesting a hair dryer, we were forced to go to the front desk to get it ourselves. The hotel website is misleading, implying that dolphin swims are available at the hotel. When we inquired, without picking up the phone, they informed us the trip was full. With our own separate inquiries to other tour services, we were easily booked on the tour. The food was overpriced and of low quality. Much better food at other restaurants on the island. The island is beautiful and has lots to do. Definitely worth the trip, but do not stay at the Mayan Princess!

We have just returned from Roatan Magen Princess Hotel to our home in Chile. It has been a very bad experience to visit this hotel The place and beach beautiful. The services at the hotel, the worst I have ever seen. The details we could read on the internet site about our room had nothing to do with what we found on our arrival. We felt very bad...........At the restaurant we asked for a glass of wine and the price for it was the usual everywhere, but I never saw a smaller size of a cup.......you could probably get 8 or 10 cups from one botle. At breakfast only one kind of juice,no bread, just toasts, just one kind of fruit.........when the waiters cleaned a table, liquid left in glasses was thrown to the sand............really incredible!!!!!!!!

We landed in San Pedro Sula main land, due to the accident at the airport in Tegucigalpa, things were not going well till we arrive at the Mayan Princes in Roatan. Beautiful place, good food, the pool side breath taken, but more over the beach side was heavenly. Every area at the resort was above expectation. Very clean suites, our daily service on time, nice people. One of the highlights of the trip was the scuba shop, very professional, knowledgeable and friendly divers. Definetly the the Mayan Princes will be in our vacation plans for the future.

WE had a room facing the ocean in the Mayan Princess. I would likely choose a room around the pool next time because the trees block most of the view of the ocean. It was a great room however and the highlight is the deck. We were in an upper room which is by far the best choice because it is more private and they have raised table and chairs so you have a view over the wall around the patio. The lower patio has the exit for the people above so they exit their unit by walking along side of your patio. This was not a real problem for us because we made friends with whoever was down there and would just say hi on our way out. The pool area is spectacular and there was rarely anyone there except us in the daytime. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. Our unit did need a new sofa in the livingroom really badly because it's seat had pretty much caved in. The kitchen area was quite old and needed updating. The towels and pillow cases were stained which I had a little trouble with. These were small issues. The guys in the restaurant area: Jeffery, Dany, Ramone and others that we never got the names of were excellent and gave very good service. We ate in the restaurant only a couple of times and it was great. Breakfast was good for us a mix of hot and cold foods. There were eggs and pancakes and bacon. Also cold things like lots of fruit and yogurt ect. Very little English is spoken by the staff but they work hard to understand us and it was actually fun. At the front desk was Arthur who was very helpful to us since we had no luggage for 5 days. There was also a very nice young lady who spoke perfect English at the front desk and she was so helpful. They both spoke very good English and they worked as hard as they could to find our luggage. All in all this was an amazing experience. The beaches here are among the best we have every seen because the water is beautiful and the sand like flour and the best part is it isn't busy all the time. It is busiest on the day the ship arrives but that didn't affect the Mayan as much as some of the other resorts down the way. Lots of great restaurants along the beach. The beach is safe to walk on at night and we never felt threatened in any way at any time.
