Stayed at VDP for one week from Dec 22-29, 2012.
The units are under new owners and manager and the improvements and service are exceptional. The entire operation has undergone a significant up grade. There are 6 units in VDP.
We stayed in the top-floor 3 bedroom/ 3 bathroom villa which included access to the rooftop. This is the "penthouse" villa and the rooftop includes another full kitchen, a dipping pool, extra bathroom, dining table, bar, and lounge chairs all on a roof with amazing views. The sight is truly spectacular with western exposure for sunsets and vision all the way to the top of Utilla.
The villa was decorated with Tommy Bahama style furnishing and the beds and sofas were very comfortable. The kitchen was well outfitted and we cooked in for Christmas dinner and also used the grill on the rooftop for two cookouts. Plenty of utensils for 6-8 people.
At VDP the view from all the villas is of the Caribbean Sea, with lots of interesting boat activity, the reef and wonderful sunsets. The VDP beach is quiet and very good. You can swim to the reef, but VDP also offers free use of two glass bottomed kayaks so you can paddle out to the reef for great snorkeling (we saw squid and a turtle!) The location of VDP is great and its an easy 5 minute walk into the West End. (Our favorite restaurant in the West End is Cafe Escondido and favorite bars include the Blue Marlin and Sundowners. Best dive shops include West End Divers and Coconut Tree Divers.)
Dealing with the new owners, Jack and Kathleen, was a pleasure and Kathleen answered all my emails promptly and provided great responses to all my questions. Krystal, the manager, lives on site and is easy to deal with and very knowledgeable on things to do on Roatan. She was great to talk with about Roatan and helped with any questions regarding the villa. Krys supplied us with a cell phone and had the WiFi working for our internet connection. The TV in the living room works with a dish and provided decent reception to watch the college bowl games over the holiday. There is also a caretaker during the day and a night security guard. The unit was very clean and the cleaning lady also came to clean half way thru our week.
We had a special Christmas holiday at Villa Del Playa and highly recommend this as the place to stay on Roatan. The 6 unit size, attentive service from owner and manager, great amenities, perfect location, and amazing views are why we highly recommend staying here.
