“Saving to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2009

My huisband and I did alot of research on the accomidations on Roatan and were so thankful we chose "Tranquilseas". Monica is an absolute breath of fresh air. She greeted us at the airport, took us to buy a few staples and we were off to a much needed holiday. Our cabana, Hummingbird was perfect. Every morning my husband and I took our coffee down to the hammocks on the end of dock. Some mornings we were lucky enough to see some of the local children( who are very polite) fishing. Their little giggles were priceless. We then would eat a lovely breakfast prepared by Monica. Following that we would get in a little skiff w/ our snorkeling gear and hit the bay. We saw some of the best sealife right off the dock. We enjoyed sight seeing the island and eating at The "Hole in the wall "for just good food and a fabulous boat ride. "ooloonthoo "for the absolute best Indian cuisine I have ever had. We enjoyed ziplining, but Tranquilseas was our "Home" for the week. It was slow, but we could not have recieved better service. Chris and Monica and the( bartender that his name is escaping my mind)were the most gracious hostesses. Money very well spent!!! We are saving now to take our girls(13 & 16) back. Hope to see you all soon! Thank You !!!Leslie and Pete

We stayed in Tranquilseas for two weeks and, having relied on the tripadvisor reviews were genuinely disappointed with our stay. The place, indeed, has a lot of potential but we felt that (even though we were the only guests at the time) the management were only superficially interested in looking after their guests.

On the second day of our stay we were greeted with signs of "Tranquilseas is closed" and a chain-locked gate when we returned from diving. Fortunately, as we found out later, it was only the restaurant/bar that was closed but it would have been helpful to be told this prior to shutting the place down. To give credit to them - Monica did cook us a few nice meals with prior notification but we caught a cab to West End most evenings.

The cabanas are comfortable but certainly not luxurious. The shower was never hot, the roof leaked when the wind blew in a certain direction and every time we tried to switch on a light we were rewarded with a little electric shock. We stayed in the Hummingbird.

The pool area is lovely although it did not get cleaned after the rain and it had a lot of leaves and other dirt in it. The bar area is also nicely designed and could be a fun place to hang out if it was staffed/open.

If you want to go on a week's diving holiday, the location is perfect but if you want to go diving and sample a few different restaurants and meet other people, this is not for you. We changed hotels and stayed in a different hotel nearer to West End for our last 10 days.

For the benefit of doubt, Roatan was pretty dead at the time but we do not feel that this justifies the lack of service which we experienced in Tranquilseas.

Chris & Monica are wonderful hosts. You can't beat reading all day in a hammock with a beer followed by Monica's delicious food. They have music certain days in the bar cabana which brings other tourists as well as locals to a wonderful, relaxing, romantic place. The pizza down the driveway was to die for and a taxi ride from the hotel to West End is only $1 per person. The snorkeling trip with Chris was fantastic. We will go back. We went right after Zelaya was ousted and the whole place was very mellow. No problems.

We had a great stay at TranquilSeas! It’s the best of both worlds. On one hand, it’s a small property where you can really feel at home – in fact, with a medium-sized group you can book the whole place and have it to yourselves. On the other hand, the property includes a public restaurant and bar, so evenings are often busy and fun – not isolating like a private rental can be.
Hosts Chris and Monica are amazing. Chris designed and built the property, with unusual attention to design and detail. The cabanas are comfortable and well equipped, with tropical-strength remote A/C units and surprisingly fast wireless Internet. Monica runs the food end of the operation, which includes great breakfasts, you-think-of-it-they’ll-cook-it dinners, and twice-weekly tapas nights (Monica is from Spain, so she knows a thing or two about tapas).
The location is wonderful, right on a sandy beach with a postcard-perfect dock from which you can jump off and snorkel. The reef is right there. Windsurfing school and dive shop are next door.
As others have written, the highlight of our trip was an all-day boat trip around the island with Chris. Do this. Even if TranquilSeas is full and you have to stay somewhere else, call Chris and arrange to do this.
There are properties I’ve returned to again and again because I love the places where they’re located. This is the reverse. We will go back to Roatán because it’s where you go to find TranquilSeas.

I had the most relaxing, wonderful time ever at TranquilSeas. It is truly hard to do this place justice in a word, or even picture, based review. TranquilSeas is staggeringly beautiful, and the hosts, Chris and Monica, are the absolute best! They really have done well to set up an incredible resort experience, but in a intimate way. Monica is an incredible cook! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and Monica's food had me craving breakfast all day. I would find myself almost daydreaming about what I was going to order the next day for breakfast. It was really amazing. The facilities are the best I saw on the island. Private cabanas, private pool, private dock. There is not much more you could ask for. If you are planning to go to Roatan, and you stay anywhere other then here, you are CRAZY!

Spent a magnificent week with a dear old friend in the Dolphin...everything about Tranquil Seas was perfect! My dear friend and I enjoyed snorkeling, touring the island in a rented SUV, enjoying the lovely company, exploring restaurants, and lounging in the sun. BOTH of the hosts were splendind--attentive to our needs yet gave us our space. Monica was a lovely cook and her gazpacho must not be missed!! I felt like I was transported to Spain...Chis is a true professional with a magnetic personality. Unfortuantely, I had to leave for the mainland...all I desired to do, however, was extend my stay. There is no doubt that I will be back to Roatan and Tranquil Seas.

We had 14 days in this secluded, unique, holiday destination. The accomodation and facilities are spacious, comfortable & attractive. Lovely pool, bar & restaurant area. With a relaxed atmosphere, you share your 'holiday complex' with only a handful of fellow guests. Peace & tranquility.
The food was excellent, thank you Monica, the menu varied. Great base for exploring the island, diving, snorkelling. Some of the best dive sites in the world surround the island. Thank you Chris for looking after us oldies when teaching us to dive.
The island has plenty to occupy, is off the well trodden tourist path, & has a 'good feeling' about it. This was the first time we had dipped our toes into a non-package long haul holiday, and we would return tomorrow if we could. It has been very hard to return to the rat race.
If I had to recommend anything to you it would be: the diving & snorkelling, use good insect repellant, enjoy the rum & coke.
