Owner description: The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life. Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

“Scuba dive tragedy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

Went on a cruise excursion for a diving experience (divemaster) and realized it would be a "get them in the water and get them back to the ship", but it was unfortunate how we were handled like cattle. The biggest disappointment, not having water or snacks on the boat for the surface interval! They took you close to the dive shop/resort and then took you back for the SI at that time, they replaced the tanks (right, only took enough for 1 dive for each diver) and then expect you to visit their shop for snacks and pay for them! Beware of carrying too many big bills like a 20. They charge $3 for a small bag of peanuts and don't have change. Really?
The DM was not interested in helping vs. leading quickly and DONE. Don't expect to see much sea life on an excursion :(
I have traveled to Grand Caymen, Bonaire, Belize and Mexico, my favorite in the Carribean is Cozumel. Do yourself a favor, week vacation diving at least 2 or 3 tank dives a day at an all inclusive in Cozumel. It is a great place! Shopping is better than any place in the Carribean I've been too also!

“Roatan highlight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

Our family of 5 loved the dolphin experience at Anthony's Key Resort. It was educational as well as entertaining and fun. Very well run and orderly and worth the cost per person. Our dolphin Marguerita was a sweety and super talkative, we loved her! We loved the CD with all the pictures that we could take home. Would highly recommend this activity because the setting is so natural and it seems the dolphins are very happy and healthy in this envirmonment.
