“Dream vacation for divers and snorkelers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

As I sat on the terrace of the hillside open-air restaurant gazing down in awe at the rest of the resort, all I could think of was a cover shot for Travel & Leisure Magazine. Beautiful clear water in varying shades of turquoise, an off-shore island with rustic yet modern over-water bungalows with enormous decks. Two snorkel trips or three tank dives per day to various reefs are included in the package price. We were the only snorkelers that week and had the large boat and guide all to ourselves! Unlimited horseback rides along the beach and a dophin encounter are also included. You can also take a boat over to the dophin center any time and watch all twenty-two of them frolicking in the water. Full-day excursion to Maya Key where the wildlife rehabilitation center was very interesting and hands-on. Very good food and service. A true paradise and a perfect vacation!

Room Tip: Stay on the island and request a sunset view.

Anthony's Key was simply amazing! Everything was so much...more.... than my wife and I could of ever expected. We had booked a room without air conditioning on the key, but since the resort was not very full, they upgraded us to a room with air conditioning for free! Great way to start the trip for sure. Also, after being there and seeing everything, I would defenitely recommend the Key rooms, not the hill rooms. You get so much more of a view, and the ocean experience with the bungalows on the key, it is well worth the extra $.
The food was outstanding! I gained 5 pounds in the week we were there....really good, made to order food. Breakfast was always the same menue, but it had enough to change it and not get tired of the same old thing. For Lunch and Dinner you have the choice of 2 starters (sallad or soup usually) and the choice of 2 entree's with dessert (very good desserts).
The diving was incredible. The resort defenitely delivered what they promised. The dive sites were quick 5-10 minute boat rides, with one dive site on the other side of the island, but that was in conjuction with a day trip/lunch to Maya Key (which is included, at no additional cost and is an awesome island with a lot of animals, sort of like a zoo). They gave us lockers right on the dock, very convenient.
If you want to go around the island, the front desk knows and uses the same taxi guy all the time, so you know you are in good hands and you won't get ripped off.
The dolphin snorkel is a must. It includes a 30 minute encounter, and a 30 minute snorkel. I played fetch with a dolphin for about 15 minutes with a stick. It was like having a dog in the water! We also did the sunset horsback riding, but register early, as they only do the sunset ride once a week and it will book up fast.
We went mid-season, Thanksgiving week. It is defenitely one of the best times to go. There were only 8-14 people on our dive boat any given day (only about 30 people at the resort), which is great considering that the captain said that boat would have as much as 35 people on it during the high season, and they have 4 or 5 dive boats just for the resort, on top of the boats they use for the Cruise Ship people. So it can get very croweded during high season, but it was very calm for us and we got a lot of attention from the captain and dive master since there were not a lot of people :)

Room Tip: Get a room on the Key! Well worth the extra money.

Great great place! So relaxed. Nice boats with amazing dive masters. Great dives that are a good mix of reefs and wrecks. Loved the food and the view from the restaurant (way up the stairs).I loved taking the little boat to get across to the island to get to our cabana. They had a great supper party one night by the pool with fire dancers. They even took us to this other little island for a BBQ another day. There's not much of a beach and the shore is rocky but that's a minor detail.

What a great place to play! A bucket list dive spot for sure!! We went for our anniversary and had a fabulous time. The place is very tropical, no hallways to save you from the rain but nice huts over the water. Food was good and with a non-meat option daily. Meals are included but drinks are not, including juice. The service staff was excellent. We were on an assigned dive boat for the week with wonderfully knowledgeable guests and extremely helpful captain (Jimy) and dive master (Marvin). Our 13 dives were phenomenal, there are three to four scheduled dives daily and you can choose when you want to go out. This is not a place to start to gain experience though, I recommend you have dives under your belt and feel comfortable. If not, reorient yourself as the assumption is that you know what you are doing. They do offer courses and certifications. If you don't dive, they have a snorkel option as well.

I loved it and look forward to heading back!! We met some folks that could be life long friends.
PS- worth doing the shark dive!! If you go to the east end (Oak Ridge), try to get out to the Hole in The Wall bar. It will add to the story when you get back home. By water only. Ask for Bob.

My son is 17 years old and is an Advanced PADI Diver with over 125 dives and I'm a PADI Instructor. We absolutely loved Anthony's Key Resort but the fishing fleets have raped the waters around Roatan to the point that there is not a lot of life left to view. This is too bad because the reef is in great condition and has a lot of different dive sites that keep you interested. We have stayed on both sides of the island, Fantasy Island Resort in 2010 and AKR in August 2011 and the same was true on both sides, great reef but not a lot of life to see. The most life you will see are the over abundance of Lionfish. The resorts really need to start killing them off because they have a lack of life already on the reef and the Lionfish will eat what remains. With that said I would recommend this resort for non experienced divers who want to gain experience. You can get in 3 dives per day off of the boats and shore diving is available but we checked out the shore area and there wasn’t a lot to see. We did not shore dive the wreck so I can’t comment on that. There are two night dives available but after the first one we skipped the second. Way too many inexperience divers in the water at night for their first night dive and there was a lot of thrashing going on within the group. My son and I finally peeled off and did the night dive by ourselves. We found the food was excellent and always had enough to eat. People who complain about the food are the type who needs to complain just to complain. AKR does not include alcohol in their all inclusive pricing but they offer happy hour every day except the days for the night dives and you get 2 for one pricing so it’s very reasonable. The resort is not a party place so expect everyone will be into their bungalows by 10:00 latest. As far as Internet access goes they have two computers in the lobby and Wi Fi available. They charge $ 25.00 for the week. My son brought his laptop with him and he was able to Skype his girlfriend from the Key down by the boat pick up location on the picnic tables.
As far as the accommodations go we had Bungalow number 30 with Air conditioning and it’s dubbed the honeymoon suite. It’s on the farthest walk on the key but it’s worth it. The privacy was excellent and the bungalow was huge with its own private balcony to watch the sunsets go down. If you’re with spouse/significant other try and get # 30 you won’t be disappointed. There are bungalows without air conditioning and we spoke to people who were staying in them and they said it was like being in hell. HOT and one night it was pouring rain sideways and they had to close their slats to their windows and the one couple said they checked the temperature in their room via their dive computer and it was 96 degrees. That is not a Vacation.
If you go into West End don’t expect a lot to do. It is a great place to party and have some fun. We ate both years at Tong’s Thai restaurant and it is excellent. You get a lot of great Thai food but I will warn you its very pricy. One coke for my son and water for me and you’re looking at $ 60.00.
So if you’re looking for a place to get underwater a lot with great reefs, great resort, this is a good place to go. If you’re looking for big fish, lots of fish diversity Roatan is not the island you will want to visit.

Room Tip: Stay on the Key but make sure you have a room with A/C

Accommodations, logistic, organization, People every element of this fantasy Island was for me and my friends rated at his best.
Everything went perfect even with some rainy days (heavy rain and wind) AKR knew how to handle it to keep providing the service without interruption.
It is a must to go for every Diver in the world.

Room Tip: Rooms in front of the channel (looking at AKR ) are the best because are quieter and you can see the...

Was part of a dive group that stayed here...we did the upgraded rooms and everyone raved about there's. Each had either an sunrise, sunset or ocean view. Balcony or porch with seating and at least one hammock (oh, yeah!).

Restaurant was very good...even though we were on the American Plan the food was good, plentiful and had a lot of variety. And the staff was excellent at meeting requests.

Dive operation (in fact the whole operation) ran like a well oiled machine. Boats went out on time, dive briefings were excellent and the crew very professional. First time snorklers had a great time.

It was such a delighful trip that we are seriously conemtplating a return visit in 2012...if not then, definitely in the next couple of years.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the rooms on the key...
