“This place needs to be on every diver's Bucket List”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

We are owners of Aquatic World Dive Shop in Syracuse, New York. We run about six group trips every year to destinations all over the world. We just returned from our fourth consecutive year at Anthony's Key with a group of 23 divers and non-divers. Our groups are made up of young and old, novice and experienced divers, families, friends, and singles.
Anthony's Key has managed to give one and all ( totaling 101 in all for all four years) a great experience every time we come. We know this because we have everyone fill out a survey at the end of each trip. We use this information to improve our trips going forward.

Our youngest travelers always sign up for Dolphin Camp. These are those children who are not divers. They spend the day learning about, and interacting with the twenty-six dolphins who are actually on the property at The Dolphin Institute. They also have snorkling, jungle animal and critter encounters, and tons of fun activities. They meet Mom and Dad at lunch to share their experiences and then again after the third boat dive of the day.

There are many activities Anthony's offers in every package that boosts your value when considering this destination. These include horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, shore diving, a visit to the museum, and entertainment throughout the week. The resort's pool is lovely and located right on the key.

Other optional activities not included in the price are, dolphin encounters, dolphin dives, shark dives, zip lining, para-sailing, botanical garden, spa treatments

The diving at Anthony's Key is great! We always ask for our favorite crew. Rupert is our pick for boat captain, Frank and Caulderon for dive masters. These guys are simply the BEST! Rupert is always there to help us in rough seas getting out of the water and navigating the boat. Frank and Caulderon are both great at finding the critters for us, taking us through the swim throughs, assisting newer divers where needed, and keeping the group together. They give excellent briefings, change out our tanks between dives, and engage in the comeraderie on the boat. They are always ready to laugh with us and that means alot! All three of these guys combine to make the PERFECT CREW.
The dive package includes three boatdives daily plus two night dives.

What you see on the dives is a broad spectrum of sealife in a very mountainous underwater terraine consisting of lots of coral formations with walls, gorges, and swim throughs. There are two wrecks included that are not to be missed.
The critters include free swimming green moray eels, barracuda, eagle rays, sea horses, scorpion fish, parrot fish of all kinds, toad fish, drumfish, trunk fish, blue tangs, grouper, angelfish, spadefish, nurse sharks, octopus, squid and so many more.
The dive shop is run by Kevin and he does a top notch job.
There is medical attention available on site for any issues with ears, sickness, ect.
There is a Photo Shop on site and because we are always a large group we have a videographer film us on dives and we get the opportuniity to purchase a very special remembrance of our trip.
The rooms vary from Standard Hillside (no air - on the mainland) to Key Superior (air - on the Key). We suggest going for the Key Superior. The price difference is worth paying for because being on the Key with your own hammock by your own piece of ocean right outside is very special.

The food is good with a full breakfast menu, two or three choices at lunch and dinner, and a nice variety throughout the week. Marcos and Saul are our favorite waiters always smiling and attentive to our needs.

The front desk is exceptional. Whatever you need - they are there to help you. They are all so professional, and genuinely interested in helping.

Then there are all the other great employees who man the boat taxis, take care of the grounds, cook, clean, handle luggage, guard, and do the behind the scenes work that make this all work so well.

The management at Anthony's Key is the true measure of this resort. When you see all these happy employees you know you are in the right place. Mandy and Samir our hats are off to you for yet another great week in your company!

This resort was perfect for our dive trip. We stayed on the island in an air conditioned room. (the only way to go). The boat that took us back and forth was always available and crossing was simple. The food was great but we did not eat every meal there. It is nice to get away and into town sometimes. We rented scooters. The boat trips never took more than 5 minutes to get to the spot and the schedule was great. Instead of going out for 6 hours on a 2 tank dive like most places, they had 3 times a day and you were brought back each time. The shore dive is one of the best although I was dismayed at the amount of Lionfish we saw. I wish they would let all divers collect them. The only drawback would be if you were in a big group, you might have trouble staying in contact with each other. We brought walk talkis. If 2 of us were eating, we could always get a hold of each other. It really makes it unbelievably easier not to get separated. I highly recommend this. Overall, we would stay here again if we went.

I admit I was a little worried about the rustic rooms but they turned out to be spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend staying on "The Key" . The rooms were clean and had everything one needs. Warning, the showers are a little small. I also suggest taking extra clothes pins for hanging wet towels.
The dive staff were wonderful. Dive Master Hector and Captain Dean were a great team. Hector took no time in figuring out our dive levels and made sure we all had a wonderful time and didn't dive beyond our experience. He made sure we saw interesting fish and coral formations. Dean got us to the sites quickly and was waiting for us at the precise spot on our drift dives. If you are lucky enough to dive with them, you will have a wonderful time.
There is plenty of food and plenty of great staff to serve. Our group sat in the same general area and had the same servers all week. The staff will make sure you are at the boat in time for your dive. It is worth it to try the local food. If you have a preference for trying something, ask the front desk for recommendations.
Make sure you take an afternoon to take an island tour. Dean's cousin has a great tour van (ask at the desk) and he is happy to take you to some out of the way places, along with some favorites. Some of our group had a few places in mind and he was glad to take them.
If you think you have enough but spray, take more!! Those bugs are awful. We made sure to spray several times a day and had little trouble.
A few members of our group did need to see the doctor while there. If you need to go, the rates are reasonable and the doctor will certainly take the time to ensure you are healthy and ready to dive. You can really tell that safety is a big concern here and for me, it made the diving that much better.
If you plan on using WiFi, it won't work on the key and it can be touchy on the mainland. There is a fee and I didn't feel it was worth the hassle. My suggestion is to leave the computer at home and check email from the common area computers. You are still charged but you don't have to take the computer with you.
We will certainly go back to Anthony's Key. It was a wonderful experience and some of the best diving I have done.

We visited Anthony's Key Resort five times in the last ten years. The diving is always excellent with 3 dives a day if you want to. The boats are clean and divemasters& capitan are great. Dive sites are normally 10 minutes boat ride away. We like to stay on the key. The houses are very comfortable and we take with A/C. It can be very hot and on the key is often going a wind. We like the short boat ride between the key and the Island. The restaurant has excellent food and nice seating with a view. Breakfast bar with a menu,Lunch and dinner has two choices. The soups and the desserts are wonderful. It is an excellent place to have a dive vacation. A pool for kids and non diver is on the key. But, be careful for the sun flies (you don't see them) If you're on land, in the sand, no wind is going, you have to put deet, cactusspray or some protection on it. We waited the first year to long. We got ill from 250 bites which were itching terrible and we had to go to the hospital and get cortison. The second time we went there we know, and we had no problems at all. If you want to swim or dive with Dolphins this is the place to be. What a dream this was. Unforgetable. I'm looking foward to our next trip.

Room Tip: house on the key (there is going some wind) with A/C (because it's hot )

With the exception of basically no beach, we really enjoyed this place. I think the highlight was being able to go over to the dolphin area in the evening and watch them play and enjoy the sunset. The food was good, but sometimes the servers were overloaded and getting a drink refill was not an option ( unless you got it yourself). The diving was great and our dive master was very knowledgeable about the marine life, etc. He was very patient and fun loving which made the experience even better.

We were absolutely spoiled at Anthony's Key Resort! Amazing private little cottage on an island! Dive locker for equipment, same boat and crew all week! Awesome dive sites for beginners and for veterans. Ask for John because he will take the time to find that favorite thing for you...he found me my first seahorse!

We stayed at Anthony's Key in late April and were thrilled with the entire experience! With one notable exception, all of the dive sites are literally within 5minutes of the resort. The exception is Mary's Place, which is a 40 minute boat ride and not to be missed. Our dive master, Ven and our boat captain, Richard, were experts at making each dive a fantastic experience. Ven knew every inch of the reefs and was an expert at pointing out the little things we might have missed. Richard never failed to be right where we needed him. The dive sites were beautiful. While there were not the large schools of fish you might see in other parts of the Caribbean, there was tons of wildlife, and we saw turtles on every dive. The resort itself is comfotable and well suited to a dive vacation. We stayed in a Key Superior room and loved the back porch over the water where the hammocks called us every afternoon. The food is plentiful and about what we expected from an all inclusive resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. We also did the zipline excursion, which was tons of fun! Anthony's Key is the perfect place for a dive vacation. Be prepared to leave your phone and computer home. Though there is internet available in the lodge, it was very liberating to be "out of pocket" for a week! We loved Anthony's Key and will definitely be back!!
