I have always wanted to swim with the dolphins....and I finally got to do it!! It was so much fun!! Got some great pictures and had a blast!!

This review is a little late sorry for the delay! We stayed at AKR and booked the snorkel with the dolphins. We had dove all week (17 dives) and were looking for a more interactive thing to do in the water! The snorkel with the dolphins was perfect!

We had others who opted for the Dive with the dolphins but to be honest we had more fun! You get a chance to actually swim all over with them, they play and truly want to be petted! We would swim down to the bottom, grab a handful of seaweed sit there and play catch with the dolphins! I would throw it while underwater, they would catch it in their mouth and spit it back at you! This went on the whole time!

It was depressing when they call everyone back in. The dolphins are not done playing!

One note I would really like to impress on. There was a couple staying there that refused to have anything to do with the operation. Citing that it was cruel. I would like people to know that these are not captive Dolphins. They have a home they love and people who love them. At any point in time these dolphins can leave and they do! The one dolphin kept jumping the fence and taunting us. Then would jump back over and play again!

They routinely travel through open water back and forth from one area of AKR to the other with no prompting. The trainers are amazing people and they have a special relationship with these creature. You can tell how each dolphin truly connects with it's trainer.

I am almost 50 years old and have never given much thought about dolphins, other than to see them in a zoo. After spending the time with them, I have a new appreciation for the great animals they are. And I commend AKR for doing such a wonderful job in bringing them to people like me. I have a new appreciation for them and I only wish we had done it more than just once!

We are headed back to Roatan in 2 months and I am hoping that we can take another swim with them!

The dolphin meet and greet is a lot of fun. The trainers let you touch one of the dolphins and they perform a bunch of tricks for you. We also did the dolphin swim, which was fun, though the water was a bit murky so it was hard to see the dolphins (that was a bit odd, since the water was clear at all of our other destinations in Roatan).

One warning - AKR says that photos are a must for the dolphin meet and greet and tells people to bring their camera. However, they only allow you to take photos at the end when the dolphins are doing their tricks. You are not allowed to take photos of yourself with the dolphins - they bring in a professional photographers for that, and he charges about $15 a photo (you can get a set for $50). That was very disappointing to us, since one of the main reasons we signed up was to take lots of photos of us playing with the dolphins. Cameras are not allowed on the dolphin swim, so they literally gave us no opportunity to take photos of ourselves with the dolphins - if you wanted them, you had to buy the professional ones. What a rip off!
