“A wonderful place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

We spent a week during christmas holidays in the private owned wood houses (cabaña sounds very much like a hat but they are nice furnitured houses) and the manager Dan Humphrey made everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible! He offered us to pick us up from the airport, which is located a 15-20min ride from sundancer cabanas. The house no. 2 has 6 beds (2 doublebeds 2 single beds) and has a nice living-room with sofas, tv, dvd and a well equipped kitchen. There's hot water for the shower, chairs outside to sit and enjoy the view and moskito nets on all the windows. If you don't want to cook on your own there's a nice little restaurant nearby which is open till 8pm and serves nice salads and seafood.
The only thing that is a bit of a disappointment was the beach. On the first day it was quite filthy because of all the waste the locals drop anywhere and is brought to the beach trough the rain. The next day they cleaned it well. The water is full of plants so you don't want to swim there. Despite of the holidays the beach was not crowded and you can spend afternoons enjoy reading or relaxing on the wooden pier that has a big platform at the end. From there you can go snorkeling to the reef which is located in swimming distance (be sure to bring your own snorkeling equipment). If you want to relax, away from the busy West bay or West end but in a beautiful natural environment, Sundancer cabañas is the perfect place to stay in Roatan!

Room Tip: Cabana no. 2 is the one that is the closest to the beach and offers a great view from the balcony ab...

(Note: Sundancer is actually listed twice on TA, so you'll want to read the reviews on both listings. Use the TA search box and it will show both...)

We stayed at Sundancer for 4 weeks in 2012... liked it so much we returned for 6 weeks in 2013 and have already booked 8 weeks for 2014. We like everything about the place... the cabanas, the facilities, the location, the beach, the dock, the reef (especially the reef - magnificent snorkeling on pristine reef, usually all by yourself...) - but especially, the lovely people. Holly and Dan took us in, helped us understand how stuff on the island works, and just made us feel like welcome new neighbors.

We call going to Sundancer "going to the cabin." It has the same calming feeling as the summer getaway to the place on the lake. From Sundancer, you can be as active or as lazy as you choose to be. Enough privacy to really kick back, but enough people around that you never feel isolated.

We are travelers, so people frequently ask where we are headed next. When the topic of winter travel comes up, our answer is always "Paradise" - and by that we mean Roatan in general and Sundancer in particular!

(About that septic smell complaint - we also experienced it in 2012 and it was unpleasant... not overwhelming, but certainly a negative. It was a temporary condition and Dan has worked tirelessly to correct the water problems. Our visit in 2013 was odor-free.)

Room Tip: The cabanas vary in style and floor plan... and they are individually owned, so some are better furn...

Sundancer is one of those secret spots that you'll only really find by word of mouth. Their self-catering apartments are perfect for families and couples alike and there's awesome snorkeling just off the dock.

However, be advised, make sure you're not located down wind of the sump-pump. This unspoilt paradise is ruined by the pongy "eau de toilet" which is the result of a taxed septic system which desperately needs to be upgraded to cater to the constant flow of visitors and toilet paper.

This place was pretty good. Our ride from the airport(included) never showed up. The cabana was clean and quiet and the pool was great. Overall it was a good experience. Roatan is an awesome place to visit

From the opening of the day up on the second floor "perch" with the birds, palms, blue sky and geckos - watching the ocean arouse the island, to the fresh salted air that lulled me to sleep, to the heavy rain that cleansed and diffused the day - my stay at the Sundancer cabana has charmed me.
If you seek a genuine island experience, this is the place to stay. You get privacy yet you never feel alone. There is a bevy of visitors, owners & locals that quietly live in the "neighborhood" so there is always someone available to answer questions or offer advice about the island and it's many attractions. Still, so much can be enjoyed just steps from your cabana where you are apt to encounter the fresh vegetable truck making rounds, just caught fish offered by a local fisherman named Mora, amazing snorkeling right off the Sundancer dock and at least two restaurants within a short walk. The beach is great for longer, adventurous walks too; I found myself meandering through a little town going west toward Anthony's Key and there are long stretches where the beach is barely inhabited emphasizing the raw beauty of Roatan.
It is very easy to get around if one chooses to venture out; taxi's or small buses/vans pass by regularly on the road at the entrance to Sundancer - these suited my needs for this trip but I was told that car rental is very affordable too at around $30 for the day.
As all know, there is much to see and do on the island and I certainly took advantage of the Gumbalimba canopy tour, West Bay beach, shopping & nightlife at west end etc. but I found that I really enjoyed simply being near the cabana; whether it was swimming or snorkeling or watching a fiery sunset at the dock, stealing a siesta in the cozy hammock rocked by the ocean breeze, scouring the shore for washed up treasures of coral, rocks & driftwood, lounging at the pool or exploring on foot with my pack of cameras, I was completely content right there at Sundancer and Sandy Bay.
Yes, I have been charmed by this place and I am forever under it's spell.
Oh yeah, have I mentioned that I will be going back...

We stayed there for 12 days. It was a great place for everyone, the a frame of our Pete's cabin was what you expected it to be. Its a cabin" it has everything you need in it, the beds were very comfortable and it was clean. If there was something you need or could not find all you had to do was ask a neighbour. Everyone was so great there special lynne and Bob the property mangers. They helped us with finding a car to rent going white water rafting and shopping on the island and good pointers along the way.
Sundancers is great for sunset ,beach and the people there. We love our stay there eventhough we were out and about doing a range of activities there like hiking, snuba, ziplining and exploring the island. There is a fruit and veg and fish truck that comes a couple of times a week or go to west end you will find almost everything for veg fruit and fish and seafood there. Just bring your own spices, and lots of bug spray and suntan lotion. Lynne has made up a great book for each cabin about the area and a ma pof were to snorkle there, Or you can have a great guide take you out just ask lynne to hook you up with him you will not be disappointed. Yes there is a lot of sandflys but you are in the jungle a bit so deal with it. We are going back again this year its a great place, but know what you are looking for if you want the 5 star experience this is not the place but if you are a cottager you will love it. We loved it!!!!!!
