“Great honeymoon!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I stayed at the Sofitel for my honeymoon in one of the over the water bungalows. It was a great experience!!! The hotel provides you with complementary snorkeling equipment which is great because you can just jump in the water and snorkel away. The room itself
Is very comfortable and accommodating. The restaurants are nice with above average food.
However, the service is really really bad at all the consumption areas,
specially at the bar. You'd go sit at a table and wait forever for someone to take your order and most of the time, you have to get up and order yourself. That in my book is a really major negative. But overall, I'd definitely recommend the hotel.

This is our 8th trip to tahiti and Moorea and our 4 day stay at the Sofitel Ora Beach Resort was a perfect beginning to our 2 week trip! We arrived Moorea early morning tired after a long flight, but Sophie, the concierge, and Viatiare the front receptionist, arranged for us to have immediate access to our rooms, although checking in was not scheduled till the afternoon. We were upgraded to beachfront rooms. It was spacious and clean -- we just stepped out the door and we were right there on the beach. The beach itself is one of the best we've ever found on Moorea. The snorkeling was easy and the number and variety of fish were impressive.

The breakfast buffet was complete, all that one could ask for, with fresh fruit, juices, omlettes, just about everything! Marissa, who served us each day, always remembered our names -- even what we had ordered the day before. As a matter of fact, many of the staff always recognized us and called us by name, a very nice touch.

The drinks at the bar were outstanding. We would go to the happy hour each evening, and Sacha, the bartender, always used fresh juices. I never had a piña colada that flavorful before.

A couple of overal recommendation regarding Tahiti in general, and especially in off-season. Mosquitoes can be petty, particularly at dawn and dusk, so always bring mosquito spray. The sun is hot, so make sure you bring sunscreen, head covering, and cover ups. Watershoes are needed as the beaches are corally.

Overal, a wonderful stay! We will be coming back to the Moorea Sofitel next year.

Room Tip: The bungalows are staggered and face East, so almost all rooms have a good view of the beach, the sp...

We stayed at the Sofitel based on the recommendation of several friends. The location is beautiful, the sand is soft, the water is crystal clear and there are plenty of fishes for your swimming/snorkeling enjoyment. We originally booked a beach view bungalow but once we checked it out, found it to be like a small, dated cabin. Not what we wanted for our beach vacation. The beach front bungalows were supposedly booked, so we upgraded to an over water bungalow. The location was fantastic. We were in 408 and had a view of both the beach and the horizon. It is great to be able to jump into that gorgeous water right from your deck. Loved it! We snorkeled 3-4 times a day and it was fantastic! The bungalow is spacious but is definitely in need of updates. It is dated...and smelled a bit musty at times. The lounge chair on our deck was broken, but promptly fixed after we reported it. Unfortunately, the wifi connection was terrible. We could not connect from our bungalow and had to go to the lobby in order to access the internet. Granted you are on vacation, but if you have business to attend to, this is not convenient. Also, I found the check in process to be very much like one you would experience at an all inclusive resort. They round up guests that are arriving in the lobby and give you a brief "speech" about check in and the resort, pool, restaurants, etc... Then they inform the collective group that you may (or may not) have to wait for your room until check in time. Many people arrive prior to the stated check in time and spend their time waiting around for their rooms. I found this to be very impersonal and actually tacky. They are promoting themselves as a five star resort and this was more like check in at a Club Med. The restaurants/bar are decent, but not five star. Breakfast is very expensive. Why not offer guests a la carte instead of forcing them to order the breakfast buffet? I may be more inclined to eat lunch there if that were the case. Due to the fact the restaurants were so expensive, we rented a car and dined at most of the other restaurants on the island. They are fantastic! I highly recommend doing this. Most of the restaurants will pick you up/drop you off too. Last, but not least, I found the front desk staff to be unprofessional and rude at times. They would leave guests standing there waiting for service and take other guests ahead of them (or in our case - completely ignore us for lengthy periods of time).Sofitel Moorea really needs to do some updates and work on customer service if it wants to be a five star property. I am giving it a four star because it is in Moorea - which is gorgeous! The location and lagoon are great - close to the ferry and airport.

Room Tip: Beach front bungalows or over the water are the best. Although if you want to save money and have ac...

Our two night stay in a luxury beachfront bungalow promised so much - sofitel reputation, crystal clear water, close to the ferry.
However, we were disappointed with some ,not all, aspects of this luxury location.
The occupancy was very low at the time we visited, possibly because others may have been aware that December and January are the wet months = mosquito and sandfly time.
The design of our bungalow 425, which was near the wire boundary fence that separated the resort from the airport which must have been nearby and the locals picnic area, was very good although very dark inside.
We did appreciate the security patrols at this boundary but did not feel at risk at any time - is the Sofitel beach and resort exclusive for guests?
The air conditioning was useless in the very wet and humid conditions and the fan speed required to have any effect meant tying down loose objects.
This is obviously an old establishment which is beyond its hey day as maintenance and mould cleaning would enhance the appeal. Torn curtains with stains and damaged umbrellas are not acceptable.
The snorkelling was great with crystal clear water and many beautiful fish of all sizes to be seen short distance from the shore amongst the coral.
The snorkelling equipment was of good quality but dispensed by an indifferent attendant.
The staff were very good and attentive in both reception and dining areas.
We only had one option for dining due to maintenance supposedly being started soon in the other.
The first evening meal was fantastic but the second evening similar dishes were bland and smaller serves- obviously a different chef each night.
Breakfast was excellent , always served by happy attentive staff.
Certainly the wet weather restricted our options and enjoyment ,but a tidy up, attention to detail and ground maintenance would certainly enhance its appeal.

This hotel is exactly what we were looking for: a tropical oasis with over water bungalows.
Check in is more like sitting in a tikki hut, you feel very welcomed. It is lush, well appointed and tropical. We were greeted with juice and lays of flowers. They remembered us by name the entire stay; which was impressive (no looking up in the computer)

The over water bungalows were great! you have your own sun deck, out door shower, fish tank and an amazing bathroom.

I recommend paying a bit more to be the last bungalow at the end of the cluster. It cost around $50 more a night, but you will not be bothered and be located in prime fish real estate. If you are in the middle you may been seen enjoying your romantic time in Moorea.

I will add more tips, but here is what I learned:

A taxi from the port to the hotel is $15 each way (it is less than a mile but you can not walk it), you can plan ahead and set up a shuttle or group transport for cheaper.

There is little to nothing in walking distance, but you can rent a car and Avis will send the car to the hotel. $125 for a 24 hour period was quoted. They will honor Avis AWD codes (if you know what that is) and we got it for under $100.

Buy a round trip ferry ticket. you need it to get back. One way tickets cost more. MAKE sure to ask for a current schedule as they change often for seasons or for no reason. Do not rely on concierge or Tahitian word of mouth. Go to the ferry's website.

Eat dinner at least once at "Pure" on property (buffet option changes nightly, find one you like by cuisine and plan accordingly). Find out when the best show is, they have them nightly, but when we went; Thursday was the BIG show with live music. We ate at pure 2 of the 3 nights, the other restaurant is good and intimate; not our favorite. Speak to the staff at pure, not the concierge, for a reservation: Get a table with the best view of the show. You will skip a huge line if the property is busy. There was a line out the door when we got there and walked in like VIPs

Room Tip: Ask for the end of the over water bungalows. You are already spending a lot of money, go for over th...

We came to Moorea last year and stayed at this property over Thanksgiving and it was so pleasant that we decided to come back 12 months later! From the convenience of arriving on the ferry from Papeete and having the hotel only 5 minutes away, to the easy and efficient check-in service and the beautiful amenities, this place will have you on the beach or relaxing in your room within minutes of arrival.

The breakfast buffet alone is worth coming here! Special compliments go out to Heinz, the warm and friendly crepe-maker who would deliver our custom-requested omelets and crepes with a smile and fun conversation while we waited.

There is a beautiful restaurant on the premises, simply known as 'K,' where the tables are set into the sand and covered in white tablecloths and elegant place settings. You get a four-star meal with your toes in the sand and a pretty view of the calm lagoon. It's definitely a romantic place for a special occasion, and while it is not inexpensive it is not that much more than a meal at any of the other nicer (i.e. not fast food) restaurants on the island.

Not enough can be said about the amazing over-water bungalows. Tastefully appointed with flowers strewn across the white bedding when you arrive, it gets better from there. A floor window overlooks the lagoon below so you can watch the swim by under your feet. Your balcony has an outdoor shower and a stepladder into the shallow waters so you can wake up and go for a swim in less than 10 steps. It is truly paradise.

The lobby always has enough attendants and a concierge to cater to the guests' needs so that there is rarely a very long wait if you ever need anything from the front desk-and the staff is always polite and helpful and eager to engage in pleasant conversation.

This being our second visit here, we are starting to feel like part of a Tahitian family by now-and we are looking forward to a third visit next year !

Nice resort, terrible customer service. Food was over-priced in resort and we didn't get what we paid for. Left the restaurant hungry. No communication with Management as they were no where to be found. Inconsistency with service throughout our stay. Beautiful property but disappointing holiday. Will not go back to Sofitel Moorea.

Room Tip: Overwater Luxury Bungalow ...... Beautiful
