“Nice staff and better than average service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We have spent 2 nights in this hotel. We have booked a garden view room which was generally nice, but at the 1st night when we needed to make a call to a local number, we found that the phone did not work. I went to the front desk and the receptionist sent a maintanence guy to fix it but failed. The receptionist then told me they will send another guy to fix it in the next morning, who camed as promised but still the phone could not work. It is because of this problem with the phone, the hotel staff moved us to a garden view villa for free. That's really nice. We liked the villa that has a garden and a small pool. The only problem was we found cockroach in the room.

Room Tip: Ask the front desk for slippers to wear in the room. They normally do not provide them.

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

This place was perfect for our holiday, there wasn't a single thing wrong with the entire stay. My wife and I walked around the whole time just grinning happily that we'd found such a beautiful and relaxing place to spend some time. The premium overwater bungalow was amazing, we got a good deal for the low season and it was worth spending the extra to stay in one of these rooms. A beautiful spacious room with wood finishing throughout, a huge king bed, (the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on), your own private deck to dive from, complete with outdoor shower, a glass bottom section to watch the sealife, and the sound of the lagoon to lull you to sleep. The regular overwater bungalows are the same room but some face inwards towards the pool so have less privacy. The beach bungalows also looked good and we might try them if we have the chance to return. The feel of the resort is very nice, finished with lots of tropical wood rather than the sterile white you get at some places. We found the size of the resort just right, not too large but definitely not small and cramped either. The layout has been well thought out, and it was pleasure to spend the day going between the pool to the beach to the bar and back to the pool again, all within easy reach. Kayaks, Stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling gear were all on offer and easy to access, you just let the attendant know what you want and go for it. The staff here are genuinely friendly and made the stay very pleasurabe. The meals were tasty and good value, especially given Tahiti's reputation for high prices, I thought the meal prices were quite reasonable. By the time we left the Moorea Pearl we were so relaxed we felt like we'd been sedated. We would definitely return and can't recommend this resort highly enough.

Room Tip: The cocktails in the bar were good, but if you want to extend your budget, get a bottle of local rum...

“Great Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We stayed at the Moorea Pearl during the first part of our trip. It was beautiful and relaxing. We had a garden room with a private pool. Bora Bora Pearl is where you want to have an over the water bungalow, as they are further out into the water. Great service, kind people and good was great. We did an ATV tour with Albert tours, cheaper and very fun to see the Moorea island.

“The Pearl is a true gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

My husband and I spent 7 night at The Pearl and it was exceptional in every way. A gorgeous setting, wonderfully friendly staff, terrific service. (and a big shout out to Samantha at Tahiti Travel Planners for putting everything together—having all the transitions, pickups, etc arranged was wonderful and it all ran absolutely smoothly).

Because flights from the US arrive and depart at odd times, we wound up getting to the hotel at 9 am (an hour earlier even than our itinerary anticipated, since we were able to catch the earlier ferry). We’d been in transit 30 hours at that point, and were tired and the kind of grimy you only get from long travel. The staff were incredibly accommodating and allowed us a transit room for the day, so we could shower and take a brief nap until our room—a premium overwater bungalow, which was absolutely worth the extra cost—was ready. The overwater bungalows are great—we’re big snorkelers, so being able to come and go from our own dock on our schedule was huge. The glass panel in the floor was big fun, especially at night. The snorkeling right along under the bungalows is excellent—including a giant moray eel we ran into 3 times, and two white eels we’d occasionally see peeking out of the coral, and spotted eagle rays, not to mention the hundreds of fish—and if you swim across the deep channel, there’s an extensive shallow “flats” area with coral heads and lots of fish, rays, etc. Just be mindful of the tide and the current, which can be very strong. (also, if you snorkel from your dock, leave a note for the housekeepers—they locked us out one day, not realizing we were in the water) Someone else mentioned construction—they were re-thatching one of the bungalows while we were there, but we didn’t find it too distracting, they never started too early and were very careful to keep the walkways clear.

The restaurant is good---a varied but not huge menu, and the prices are about what we expected knowing almost everything has to be shipped in. The breakfast buffet (included with our room) was excellent, tons of choices including made-to-order omelets (my husband fell in love with the pain au chocolat). The bar menu is also very good, more casual and available longer hours. However, there are several very good restaurants within walking distance, and others will do free pick-up/drop off for you; we felt perfectly comfortable walking at night, though you might want to bring a flashlight, as the streetlights turn on and off seemingly at random. There is a small business district within easy walking distance, which includes a supermarket (we bought a bottle of vodka at duty free in LAX, and then bought tonic, limes, OJ, beer, etc. at the market) where you can pick up snacks and things for a light lunch. The only excursion we did was the ray & shark feeding trip and that was fantastic, something you should not miss.

The staff were all very welcoming, helpful and warm. One of the most telling things about an establishment, I think, is seeing how they deal with difficult guests. There was one gentleman who overlapped our stay who kept making these loud grand announcements (“I’ve rented out X, the whole nightclub, anyone who wants to party come with me!” “I’m going to buy this whole hotel and fire you, you’ll see”) and the staff dealt with him very deftly—always respectful, but making sure he didn’t bother or disrupt the other guests unduly. It was a difficult situation but I was very impressed with their response.

On our final day, they allowed us a very late check-out (4 pm instead of 11 am) which made an immense difference to us, allowed us one final snorkel and just a nice relaxing departure. We were extremely grateful for that accommodation.

Wi Fi access is expensive (about $20/day or $70 for 5 days) and getting connected is twitchy, often the network simply wouldn’t show up at all—the “sweet spot” in our room was at the foot of the bed—and we’d frequently get bounced off. If you need reliable connectivity for work, this may be an issue for you. (my only other minor quibble is that I like a firm mattress and the bed was very soft--but also enormous)

During our stay, we had a drink at the Hilton and dinner at the Intercontinental, and for us, that just underscored the fact that The Pearl was the right choice for us—to me all Hiltons feel basically the same, and I don’t want to go halfway around the world to stay in a hotel that feels just like the one Peoria, you know? The Pearl is luxurious, gorgeous, intimate and extremely well run—we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“Super Duper”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Rooms brilliant, staff are all very friendly.

Pool is really nice and is overlooking a nice beach and some clear blue water! There were hammocks at each end of the beach which was a nice touch and they were good for reading..

At the hut beside the pool you can get kayak gear, paddles and life jackets for free if you're a hotel guest. There is also snorkel gear including flippers and as I said there are life jackets if you need them.

There were water aerobics classes I think everyday which my girlfriend enjoyed.

There is a tour desk which is handy, the tours are quite cheap in comparison to other countries anyway and are very very good. They can book it for you no problem at all. For example a 6 hour boat tour including about 90 mins snorkeling with sharks and sting rays was about £36 or $55. There was a barbeque for lunch and also 60 minute reef snorkeling in the nice clear water which my girlfriend loved!

We had breakfast included during our stay and to be honest it wasn't great, this is the only thing I could fault about the resort as a whole and it's the only reason I gave 4/5 instead of 5 and believe me I'm very picky when it comes to hotels!

Room Tip: If you're getting a bungalow, insist that you want an ocean view one. Other than that, all rooms...
