We have just spent 2 weeks at this hotel over the Christmas and New Year period.
We travelled as 2 adults with 4 kids aged 14,9,6 and 20 months so it was very much a family holiday with many varied requirements centred around the kids.
We were given 2 adjoining rooms which worked well for us as a group and meant that the older children sharing the 2nd room never had to go out into a corridor to get from one room to another.
We travelled independantly, which reduced the price a great deal from those quoted by travel companies. Booking by email was simple and payment was taken on arrival with no problems at all. The hotel arranged for us to be collected from the airport which went without a hitch. Our price included the gala meals for all of us for both Christmas and New Year.
As mentioned in a number of reviews, the hotel is a 3 star and is a little tired but generally facilities were good. The rooms were large and clean, if not also a little tired. Some of the wiring and electrics on the lights was a big dodgy and we had to make sure little hands stayed away from the plugs etc. The bathrooms were again large and the baths/sowers were a bit "used" looking but basically ok. Water temperature and pressue was a bit of a problem but nothing that caused a real problem.
The room was cleaned each day by a lovely man who was very friendly and produced amazing towel art (must be a course they go on?). Fresh bottles of water were left every day and towels were changed more regularly than the 3 days their paperwork says. We felt totally safe leaving phones, money and personal items around the room rather than stashing everything in the safe and found nothing missing during the trip. One of the children was ill one night and the bedding was immediately changed on mentioning this in the morning, with no fuss or complaint.
Water Park / Pools.
This hotel boast a large water park which is great and really good for the kids. However due to the time of year and the weather being good by UK standarts but not by Egyptian standards the pools were very cold and the smaller children could not use them and the older ones did suffer after a few hours in them. Some parents were taking their kids out after midday as their children were clearly starting to suffer from the effects of the cold. Some of the water park was not working, such as the lazy river. Some of the slides were only on for short periods of the day and the wave pool was only occasionally on. Having said that, the hotel was quiet so there were not many people around the pools and slides.
One thing lacking was any information about which pools are heated. By trial and error we found out that two of the pools in the aqua park are heated (not a lot of heat though) and one of the 2 main quieter pools at the front of the hotel was heated. Its a shame we did not get told this and only worked this out over a period of time for ourselves.
I agree with another comment I have seen on here about the drainage grates around the pools being in poor condition. Especially around the toddlers pool. This was a problem as out toddler wanted to walk around the pool edge a lot and there were missing grates, broken and lose grates which were a real hazzard and meant he had to be held onto at all times and could easily have fallen into the drainage areas. Also the only way to access the main part of the kids area is over wooden bridges which was rather hard with a buggy.
The bar and snack area around the aqua park was fine for drinks and basic snacks during the day but hygine was a worry in the snack area with birds flying around and landing on the pizza stand.
Flies were a very major problem around the aqua park and to a lesser but still significant extent around the other pools. We were told by a few staff that the rubbish area is behind the wall edging the aqua park so perhaps this was part of the problem.
The area this hotel is in is prone to windy weather and there were few areas around the aqua park where you could aviod the breeze, which made the cold water problems much worse. Plenty of blue lipped shivering children.
This hotel is an all inclusive hotel. The food was of a good quality and lots of different dishes to chose from each meal sitting. There are 2 food areas for the all inclusive meals, the main one being rather chaotic and canteen like. The waiting staff were efficient and friendly and always looked after us very well. The resturant manager was always visible and very friendly and helpful. He clearly takes great care in ensuring the food is the best it can be.
Cleanliness of tables as not great but with such a busy place, the staff do their best to deal with the debris people leave behind as quickly as possible. There is a hand sanitiser dispensor by the door into the food hall, which we did use as we felt is necessary. All food is self served using tongs and service spoons, which of course, hundreds of people handle in each sitting. Simarly most food is in metal containers with lids that get handled by hundreds of people in each sitting.
There is a 3rd resturant with table service and food cooked to order for which you have to pay and there is a man constantly wandering around all day by the pool and in the free resturants trying to sell evening meals. We did attend one and the food was good and there was live entertainment which was also really good.
On the whole the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. There was no pressure to tip at all, although we did tip key staff towards the end of our stay, which was always our intention.
Some names worth praise:-
We were looked after brilliantly by Raafat in the dining room who always greeted us with a smile and had our drinks on our table as soon as we sat down. He was really friendly with the children and nothing was too much trouble for him.
Our room was looked after every day by Mahmoud Mahtos who was a lovely man, very helpful, friendly and trust worthy.
Jim Carey (not his real name) .. Jim is a whirlwind of a man who's job seems to be being friendly to everyone and making sure everyone is having a good time. He was absolutely great with our kids and they all really took to him. He was especially great with out toddler and spent a lot of time entertaining him. I have seen a review on here critisising him for constantly pushing to sell trips. He NEVER did this to us and I never saw him to it to anyone else. He was a real bonus to our holiday and made a big difference to the experience.
Memo.. memo is a rep for an excursion company called Sinbad that wanders around the hotel and pools all day selling excursions. Memo is a real credit to his company and there was no hard sell at all. He helped us arrange some fantastic excursions and the success of our holiday is an a big way down to him.
These people wander around all day trying to sell their treatments. It may be because the hotel was fairly quiet but some of them were quite pushy. One tried to sell my wife a set of treatments that would have taken up a few hours every single day at great expense and he took quite some telling before he eventually backed off and gave up trying to sell this. They tried to sell by dropping their prices and we overheard them many times telling other guests that they would drop the price just for them and not to tell anyone else and it was just a special deal for them alone. Clearly not as they said this to everyone. We also witnessed them getting very agressive with one guest who had booked a course and wanted money back as they could not complete the course as they had to leave and had made that clear when booking. However our daughter did get her hair braded and the man who did this was very nice and very good.
This is a tricky one. I am sure they all work really hard and do a lot during the day and night but we found them to be generally lacking for the younger children. The evening kids disco was torture to sit though night after night but to be fair the younger kids did enjoy it. There were 2 British girls in the team and sadly they both looked like they had lost the will to live and showed absolutely no interest in the kids disco, which they were running. The young kids were to young to pick up on their total lack of interest so it did not harm their experience but these two ladies really ought to consider a different job as they clearly cannot be bothered with the one they have.
On the subject of animation team.. the evening entertainment was very poor. After the painful kids disco there was "adult" entertainment for 1 hour and it was really grim. Generally centred around getting people on stage and humilitating them, getting people in the audience to take their clothes off and often involving agressive behaviour and staged violence. The whole thing seemed to be run by a burly man with a scowl and zero personality. He seemed more in tune with the large numbers of arrogant and agressive Russians and as well as the evening entertainment being totally un-entertaining, most of it was totally innapropriate for any young people fo be witnessing.
The hotel has its own kids club where you can leave your children during the day. It is not run by a travel company but a lovely local lady who has her own young baby with her during the day. As lovely as she is the club does not really do a lot for the kids and our toddler was really unhappy to go there so we stopped putting him in there, even though it was just for an hour or so in the morning to give us a very brief break.
There are two cash machines just outside the hotel and one bank which shuts at 2pm.
Note that the hotel does NOT exchange currency for you.
There are a few small super markets and shops outside the hotel and a collection of very push market style stalls who pester you in a big way and were agressive and rude when we did not want to look at their stalls.
Over the road is the sister hotel through which you can walk down to the beach. The beach is nice with a snack and drinks bar included in the all inclusive deal. You cannot swim from the bach due to the coral reef. You can walk along a 100m pier to get to the sea and there is supervised snorkelling at the end of the pier which is just amazing.
Climb down the steps into the sea and you can swim or hold onto a rope in the water and look down at the tropical fish and the coral reef wall and float over a 75ft drop to the seabed. This is supervised with lifeguards there and very safe.
ALL IN ALL.....
A decent hotel where you get what you pay for. Good and friendly staff who make the overall experince much better than it could have been. Poor animation team and terrible evening entertainment. Far too many rude Russians.
Would we go back? Probably not there but mainly as it is nice to visit new places.
