“Just Returned from Christmas and New Year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We have just spent 2 weeks at this hotel over the Christmas and New Year period.
We travelled as 2 adults with 4 kids aged 14,9,6 and 20 months so it was very much a family holiday with many varied requirements centred around the kids.

We were given 2 adjoining rooms which worked well for us as a group and meant that the older children sharing the 2nd room never had to go out into a corridor to get from one room to another.

We travelled independantly, which reduced the price a great deal from those quoted by travel companies. Booking by email was simple and payment was taken on arrival with no problems at all. The hotel arranged for us to be collected from the airport which went without a hitch. Our price included the gala meals for all of us for both Christmas and New Year.

As mentioned in a number of reviews, the hotel is a 3 star and is a little tired but generally facilities were good. The rooms were large and clean, if not also a little tired. Some of the wiring and electrics on the lights was a big dodgy and we had to make sure little hands stayed away from the plugs etc. The bathrooms were again large and the baths/sowers were a bit "used" looking but basically ok. Water temperature and pressue was a bit of a problem but nothing that caused a real problem.

The room was cleaned each day by a lovely man who was very friendly and produced amazing towel art (must be a course they go on?). Fresh bottles of water were left every day and towels were changed more regularly than the 3 days their paperwork says. We felt totally safe leaving phones, money and personal items around the room rather than stashing everything in the safe and found nothing missing during the trip. One of the children was ill one night and the bedding was immediately changed on mentioning this in the morning, with no fuss or complaint.

Water Park / Pools.

This hotel boast a large water park which is great and really good for the kids. However due to the time of year and the weather being good by UK standarts but not by Egyptian standards the pools were very cold and the smaller children could not use them and the older ones did suffer after a few hours in them. Some parents were taking their kids out after midday as their children were clearly starting to suffer from the effects of the cold. Some of the water park was not working, such as the lazy river. Some of the slides were only on for short periods of the day and the wave pool was only occasionally on. Having said that, the hotel was quiet so there were not many people around the pools and slides.

One thing lacking was any information about which pools are heated. By trial and error we found out that two of the pools in the aqua park are heated (not a lot of heat though) and one of the 2 main quieter pools at the front of the hotel was heated. Its a shame we did not get told this and only worked this out over a period of time for ourselves.

I agree with another comment I have seen on here about the drainage grates around the pools being in poor condition. Especially around the toddlers pool. This was a problem as out toddler wanted to walk around the pool edge a lot and there were missing grates, broken and lose grates which were a real hazzard and meant he had to be held onto at all times and could easily have fallen into the drainage areas. Also the only way to access the main part of the kids area is over wooden bridges which was rather hard with a buggy.

The bar and snack area around the aqua park was fine for drinks and basic snacks during the day but hygine was a worry in the snack area with birds flying around and landing on the pizza stand.

Flies were a very major problem around the aqua park and to a lesser but still significant extent around the other pools. We were told by a few staff that the rubbish area is behind the wall edging the aqua park so perhaps this was part of the problem.

The area this hotel is in is prone to windy weather and there were few areas around the aqua park where you could aviod the breeze, which made the cold water problems much worse. Plenty of blue lipped shivering children.

This hotel is an all inclusive hotel. The food was of a good quality and lots of different dishes to chose from each meal sitting. There are 2 food areas for the all inclusive meals, the main one being rather chaotic and canteen like. The waiting staff were efficient and friendly and always looked after us very well. The resturant manager was always visible and very friendly and helpful. He clearly takes great care in ensuring the food is the best it can be.

Cleanliness of tables as not great but with such a busy place, the staff do their best to deal with the debris people leave behind as quickly as possible. There is a hand sanitiser dispensor by the door into the food hall, which we did use as we felt is necessary. All food is self served using tongs and service spoons, which of course, hundreds of people handle in each sitting. Simarly most food is in metal containers with lids that get handled by hundreds of people in each sitting.

There is a 3rd resturant with table service and food cooked to order for which you have to pay and there is a man constantly wandering around all day by the pool and in the free resturants trying to sell evening meals. We did attend one and the food was good and there was live entertainment which was also really good.

On the whole the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. There was no pressure to tip at all, although we did tip key staff towards the end of our stay, which was always our intention.

Some names worth praise:-

We were looked after brilliantly by Raafat in the dining room who always greeted us with a smile and had our drinks on our table as soon as we sat down. He was really friendly with the children and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Our room was looked after every day by Mahmoud Mahtos who was a lovely man, very helpful, friendly and trust worthy.

Jim Carey (not his real name) .. Jim is a whirlwind of a man who's job seems to be being friendly to everyone and making sure everyone is having a good time. He was absolutely great with our kids and they all really took to him. He was especially great with out toddler and spent a lot of time entertaining him. I have seen a review on here critisising him for constantly pushing to sell trips. He NEVER did this to us and I never saw him to it to anyone else. He was a real bonus to our holiday and made a big difference to the experience.

Memo.. memo is a rep for an excursion company called Sinbad that wanders around the hotel and pools all day selling excursions. Memo is a real credit to his company and there was no hard sell at all. He helped us arrange some fantastic excursions and the success of our holiday is an a big way down to him.

SPA Team.

These people wander around all day trying to sell their treatments. It may be because the hotel was fairly quiet but some of them were quite pushy. One tried to sell my wife a set of treatments that would have taken up a few hours every single day at great expense and he took quite some telling before he eventually backed off and gave up trying to sell this. They tried to sell by dropping their prices and we overheard them many times telling other guests that they would drop the price just for them and not to tell anyone else and it was just a special deal for them alone. Clearly not as they said this to everyone. We also witnessed them getting very agressive with one guest who had booked a course and wanted money back as they could not complete the course as they had to leave and had made that clear when booking. However our daughter did get her hair braded and the man who did this was very nice and very good.

Animation team.

This is a tricky one. I am sure they all work really hard and do a lot during the day and night but we found them to be generally lacking for the younger children. The evening kids disco was torture to sit though night after night but to be fair the younger kids did enjoy it. There were 2 British girls in the team and sadly they both looked like they had lost the will to live and showed absolutely no interest in the kids disco, which they were running. The young kids were to young to pick up on their total lack of interest so it did not harm their experience but these two ladies really ought to consider a different job as they clearly cannot be bothered with the one they have.

On the subject of animation team.. the evening entertainment was very poor. After the painful kids disco there was "adult" entertainment for 1 hour and it was really grim. Generally centred around getting people on stage and humilitating them, getting people in the audience to take their clothes off and often involving agressive behaviour and staged violence. The whole thing seemed to be run by a burly man with a scowl and zero personality. He seemed more in tune with the large numbers of arrogant and agressive Russians and as well as the evening entertainment being totally un-entertaining, most of it was totally innapropriate for any young people fo be witnessing.

The hotel has its own kids club where you can leave your children during the day. It is not run by a travel company but a lovely local lady who has her own young baby with her during the day. As lovely as she is the club does not really do a lot for the kids and our toddler was really unhappy to go there so we stopped putting him in there, even though it was just for an hour or so in the morning to give us a very brief break.

There are two cash machines just outside the hotel and one bank which shuts at 2pm.
Note that the hotel does NOT exchange currency for you.
There are a few small super markets and shops outside the hotel and a collection of very push market style stalls who pester you in a big way and were agressive and rude when we did not want to look at their stalls.

Over the road is the sister hotel through which you can walk down to the beach. The beach is nice with a snack and drinks bar included in the all inclusive deal. You cannot swim from the bach due to the coral reef. You can walk along a 100m pier to get to the sea and there is supervised snorkelling at the end of the pier which is just amazing.

Climb down the steps into the sea and you can swim or hold onto a rope in the water and look down at the tropical fish and the coral reef wall and float over a 75ft drop to the seabed. This is supervised with lifeguards there and very safe.

A decent hotel where you get what you pay for. Good and friendly staff who make the overall experince much better than it could have been. Poor animation team and terrible evening entertainment. Far too many rude Russians.

Would we go back? Probably not there but mainly as it is nice to visit new places.

Room Tip: The hotel seems to offer free upgrades fairly easily although we turne ours down as the room combina...

A very family friendly hotel plenty for children to do, the aqua park is fantastic, the food good, and the new year eve"s gala is brilliant, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is good but the rooms are basic but you can upgrade. Trips are available and would recommend one with Jim Carey. The shows at the hotel are worth going to. My husband and I took our teenage grandson who did diving, quad biking and horse riding a fun packed week. Would very much recommend this Hotel. A shuttle bus is across the road at the Raddison Hotel and will take you to the beach although the beach area is not very big. Chilly at night. The only down fall a lot of fly"s but overall excellent holiday.

Room Tip: rooms near to reception area are near to all amenaties.

I stayed here for a week with my partner and 3 children. I have been to a lot of places in the world and stated in many hotels but this was by far the best. We all had an amazing time, the staff were fantastic and made each of us feel very special. My daughter had her 5 th birthday whilst we were there and they made her feel like a princess. Ahmed, Mohammad and the rest of the catering staff sang danced and played instruments for her in the dining room they made her a cake from table clothes and gave her a delicious Choctaw cake to take back to our room. This was only one of the events that made it so special to us. If I wrote all of them I would be here for a very long time. Special thanks to tamar who cleaned our room spotless everyday and made something spectacular out of towels and flowers which the children thought was out of this world. Thank you also to Mohammed that saved our sunbirds every morning coving them so perfectly with towels and getting us a table and even my ash tray!!! All the staff made our stay Perfect and we will definitely be returning. I have never been the same ace twice but for this hotel there great staff facilities and food I will make the exception Thank you all see you soon!!!

I went on holiday with my wife and 2 children ages 3 and 1..expectations were high and they were reached perfectly.

So let me start with my first impression...A grand hotel with beautiful lighting and a large rounded entrance with plenty of seats to relax which i did as soon as i got there. The check in was easy and luggage was carried by the porter to my large, clean relaxing room. As i arrived in the evening we went straight for our evening meal and once there i was pleasantly surprised to see a delicious array of dishes at the buffet that would make your mouth water. As i looked around the Head Chef introduced himself and susbsequently brought some special food over....this was the service that was given throughout the hotel without asking things were done for you that shows this hotels excellent quality care.

We had a wonderful holiday and i have to say that the Manager of the Hotel, Mr Samy, is a credit to this hotel and that without him i do not think this hotel would be as brilliant as it is. Because of his managerial skills with the staff and customers i believe this hotel should be rated 5*.

Thank for a great stay from the Hasan Family

Room Tip: The room near the Aqua Park were amazing

Me and my wife stayed here from November 25th to December 9th 2012.
Unfortunately, our room had some fundamental quality control issues;and the initial response to this was very slow.
I mentioned this to Adel on reception, and without me even asking for a Manager,he passed me on to Hassan;Front of House Manager.
As soon as Hassan got hold of the matter everything was resolved instantly.
As redress;we were offerred a free room upgrade, but declined as we liked our room, but we did accept a continuous free supply of tea, coffee, and whitener, with electric kettle, free bottled water;that was not free in standard rooms, and free late checkout of our room.
Before I forget it;all rooms have a free safe.
So Hassan and Adel are key contacts;and are a credit to their hotel, they speak very good English too.
Hassan is destined to be a Hotel Director, and Adel a Manager;other staff should learn from them!
Don't ask for anyone else at reception if you have a problem!
Moving on to the holiday:
Weather:We had 12 sunny days,2 cloudy days,no rain, and as Egypt is 2 hours ahead,it's best to get out into the sun as early as possible as the heat of the sun seems to go about 1530.
Meals:Breakfasts were made special with omelletes made by Hani and Mohammad;accolades to them.
I asked the Head Chef who was central to guests, and approachable,if bacon could be introduced in the future for Breakfast;as us Brits love it,he listened, wrote it down,I told him they would get more British tourists in their Hotel;if they did!
Lunch and Dinner:there was always an excellent choice, including barbequed meats, but they were let down by the desserts.
I asked the same Head Chef if we could have ice cream;and we did that night.
I tried to explain that ice cream would be cheaper than their stodgy, unhealthy cakes.
By the way there are loads of flies in the restaurant, especially at lunchtime, but you get used to them, and wow you get bitten by mosquittos, not in the restaurant, they take over the night shift from the flies, just remember to spray anything exposed to Deet;and you should minimise this!
A mosquitto bite won't make you ill;it's just an irritation!
Evening Entertainment,is programmed for 7 days;so as we stayed for 14;there was a lot of repetition in the second week, but the animation team had a long day,and tried hard, and were well led by Monty;a true Leader, and excellent communicator.
Note;there is no evening entertainment on Mondays, just kids club.
Monty cut us a good deal to go to the famous Space Nightclub in the second week, with the animations team;and other people from our hotel;including coach, admission, and drinks.
It was fantastic dancing there;great atmosphere and music.
Always get your various different nightclub tickets from the animations team not your travel rep!
On the subject of better deals;get your foreign currency in Sharm, not UK,there's a Bank 3 mins walk left out of the hotel.
Beach:nice that the hotel has an all inclusive daytime snack bar on the beach, after walking down through the grounds of sister Hotel Radisson Blue, but although the beach is sandy/shingly it is not safe to swim there;I tried it;as there are rocks and coral, and it stays too shallow going out.
But that is the geography of the area;we also took a trip on a glass bottom boat and saw the corals, including the famous "Brain" coral, and beautifully coloured fish;all excellent photo opportunities!
Best to stay by the hotel pool;loads of sunbeds, umbrellas and free fresh towels by supplied towel card;when you check in.
Better even to go to indoor pool and gym;warmer water inside, outside pool freezing;but you get used to anything!
Good towel art by Ahmed;who serviced our room;amazing what you can do with some towels!
The USP here were the flumes, slides, and wavepool;I went on them all;fantastic!
I had previously read reviews detrimental about Russians;there was only a better class of Russian here, very proud, only a very few got drunk, but they were harmless.
There were no Germans here.
At the end of our day, after the entertainment in the Bedouin Tent,we would enjoy a few drinks in the Promenade Bar where Ayman was the hard working Bar Manager.
He always had a smile on his face,he would always remember our favourite drinks, lastly a deserved accolade to him!
In summary;this is a very good hotel to come to;it can be even better,I recommend it,and we will come back!

Room Tip: Rooms near the Spa and Bedouin Tent ideal for Gym,Indoor pool, and Evening Entertainment, and far enou...

We decided to spend Christmas away this year first time ever in 40 years. We could not have chosen a better hotel in which to spend Christmas and we would absolutely recommend it as a perfect Christmas destination. The Hotel Manager, Mr Sammi supervised every detail and Christmas Eve evening (which is when the main part of Christmas is celebrated) was a truly magic evening. We started with cocktails at 6pm which were set up in the area beside one of the pool bars. The display of cocktails in decorated glasses with coloured lights was magic. Mary arrived on a camel and then Fr Christmas arrived on a camel and all the children were included in the scene. All children were given a present and it was an excellent start to the evening. We were then invited into the restaurant which had been completely transformed and looked like a decorated ballroom in one of the Park Lane hotels. We were entertained by an excellent singer and one or two also danced in the area in front of the singer. The display of food was superb and the decorated cheeses had to be seen to be believed. Everyone had pre-booked a place on one of tables so each nationality was sat with their own so it made for great conversation during the dinner.

One of the major features of this hotel are the staff. If for no other reason one would return to this hotel to see the staff again. From the young man, Mahmoud Alkasas, who cleaned our room on a daily basis and couldn't do enough to help us to the Restaurant Manager Ahmed and the incredible waiters and bar staff who are genuinely nice people who bend over backwards to make the holiday, to the Entertainment Staff who are also forever present around the pools during the day and the Bedouin Tent in the evening. We have a son with Down Syndrome and we have never seen him more animated on a holiday. All the staff wherever we were looked after him, gave him time, talked to him and generally made him feel like a VIP. He was completely at home and safe for the whole holiday. He did scuba diving in the swimming pool which lead to the three of us going snorkelling in the Red Sea and having a great day out on a boat. Once again the staff on the boat were professional and very supportive and patient.

The food is varied every day and you can get BBQ food at lunch and dinner as well as freshly cooked pasta dishes and other freshly cooked foods in addition to fish and vegetable selections. The desserts are certainly not for anyone on a diet although there was always fresh fruit available. Our son was in his element with the choice of food. The chefs were always present at every meal and could not do enough to ensure you enjoyed your meals.
Above is my wife's review. Here's mine. To avoid negative reviews about this Hotel it is a 3star
whatever holiday brochures/hotel booking sites may say. The rooms/bathrooms are large and clean but have seen better days. The pools/ water park and staff are 5star.George and Annie
the Rangers supporters have been 9 times and take some of the staff out to Mcdonald's when the come. other people we met have been 4 or more times.that should tell you all you need to know about how people feel about this hotel and it's staff. Today Mark said 'i want to go back to Egypt and see my friends' who are your friends? 'George and everybody.'. that says it all really.
Tips: If you get a bad reaction to bites get one of the staff to take you to the pharmacy for a jab
in the bum and anti-histamine tablets. jab £9 tablets whatever they can charge hence staff.
Nabq can be breezy so you can get cold in the pool/water park even though two pools are heated. Also it gets very cold at night you need trousers and jumpers.Make sure the gala dinner is included in your package otherwise it will set you back £50/60 each. The house wine is crap(that's polite) drink beer(bottled) the bottle of wine we had
with Xmas dinner(omar Kayamm) was also bad at £10. Getting change for tips is almost impossible. It would be a good idea for the hotel to have a change facility. that way staff would get more tips.Trips can cost you your holiday again. nothing under £40. We used Ocean Diving
based in the hotel. £30 for the day plus lunch and 3 snorkels. TC charged £40 whether it was better I don't know. The OD people were very good and patient training in the pool. that's it hope you have as good an experience as we did if you use this hotel.

Room Tip: Book family room and you should get 3 balconies. i think these go to regular clients.
