“Fab hotel, great beach and the longest jetty for snorkelling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2009

Hotel was fantastic with a choice of 4 swimming pools, 4 restaurants and a very very long jetty for amazing snorkelling. The scenery which the hotel is set in is amazing surrounded by the Sinai mountains and when you go out onto the jetty and look back inshore its breathtaking. the staff there are fantastic, they cant do enough for you and they are fantastic with the children. The only reason i have given it 4/5 rather than 5/5 is for the food, they cater for the high influx of russians and tend to have lots of odd food however the barbecue on the terrace and the italian restaurant are beautiful and they do an early tea for the children where they can have chips and nuggets stuff like that, (no chips for adult meals). Pools fantastic with a small heated pool and fantastic childrens pool with slides and waterfalls, my 9 year-old son loved it. The jetty is the longest in any of the hotels in the area and is fantastic for snorkelling the fish are amazing and come right up to you in the water the sea is clear and beautiful, my husband cant even swim and yet he went in snorkelling because the water is shallow for about 800m from the shore and then drops away to deep sea where you can go diving in the reefs but even in the shallow water the fish are amazing but you really need to be in the water to see them you cant see much from the jetty. In this review i am only reviewing the hotel which was stunning however my overall opinion of Egypt is different, if you are just looking for a resort holiday then its amazing but venture out at your own peril as from the time you leave the hotel gates you will be hastled by the locals. I will definitely be visiting this hotel again but maybe not venture out as much as this did spoil my holiday.

I, June and my husband Patsy stayed at this excellent hotel, from 9th November through to 23rd November in room 1803. From the Manager, reception staff, dining staff, head chef lady and gentleman, pool attendants, all staff were most friendly and polite. The food was excellent, four restaurants going each day, with mountains of fresh food, and all you can eat. We can only re-iterate again, this is a great hotel, there is transport twice per day into Naama Bay each day, this hotel is excellently situated, and I cannot rate it any higher. We had a most relaxing and very pleasant holiday, and will definitely be going back to the hotel. This is fourth visit to Sharm El Sheikh, a very secure and great place to have a vacation at any time of the year. Much success to the Royal Albatros Management and all staff.

Returned on the 23 Nov. On arrival at hotel we were advised that there were no rooms available due to delayed russian flights (more like a case of double booking) so we were packed off to the Oriental Palace for the first night. Staff at the Oriental Palace weren't expecting us so we had to wait almost 2 hours for a room - which was dated and the bathroom very basic. Overall the Oriental Palace needs some serious TLC and we were glad to escape the next morning.
Arrived back at the Royal Albatros at 11.30 am and didn't get allocated a room until 16.30pm so basically we lost a whole day of our holiday waiting around - not a good start. The sea view room allocated (443) was fine but tired and needs updating.
Food choice was good and you could always find something (we are quite fussy) better than expected having read some reviews, especially liked the BBQs at night and the pancake stations at breakfast and supper time !!
Pleasantly surprised by the choice and availability of drinks too; the local wine, brandy and beer were all drinkable and staff were always keen to replenish supplies (a small regular tip helps)
Overall the hotel and our room were very clean, no problems with insects. All staff were helpful and friendly.
Be wary of the prices in the hotel shops - don't be afraid to haggle, plus be very wary of the man with the camel on the beach - he will try to charge you £5 for every photo he takes of you and his camel on YOUR camera!!
Recommend the snorkelling and even if you are not a strong swimmer there are lots of shallows to snorkel in, you can also see loads of amazing fish from the pier without getting in the water!
Avoid the beach bar at night if you don't like karaoke, but if you like to have a laugh with the crowd and people watch, then you'll enjoy it.
Overall we had a good holiday, we especially enjoyed those lovely blues skies and the sunshine peeping through the curtains at 6am every morning.

Having been to sharm three times over the last 5 years I can say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! From entering the hotel it was downhill all the way. on arrival, told we may be moved to the aqua park but I refused - definately an error on my part, it could not have been worse.Reception staff are not particularly helpful and we were just given a paper map of the hotel and told to find our rooms. Quite difficult late at night when the lighting is so dim. The hotel may have had a lick of paint on the outside but inside it is dire. the rooms are dark and dated, curtains didn't fit, bare electric wires on lamps etc. the bathrooms are dreadful with mouldy grout and shower curtain, most of the floor tiles are broken - cut my feet on them several times. There was a good powershower with hot water providing you let the water run for about 5 mins. there was a bath but you couldn't use it because there was no plug and the plugholes are disgusting. The plug in the washbasin was broken and they fixed this, then it broke again within one day. The toilet broke and would not flush. there was a squashed wasp on the bathroom wall throughout our 2 week stay. Soap dispensers are provided but the towels are miniscule and face cloths are not provided either. Aircon worked well. You are supposed to get tea & coffee etc and 2 bottles water in your room but this was hit and miss. Our room had a bed settee and two chairs - but the settee was broken so you couldn't sit on it. We had a veranda of sorts - which we had to share - (as do a few rooms within the hotel) - with our Russian neighbours who drank practically all night and played their music well into the early hours. Another couple with a small child reported this to a manager but the response was that they couldn't do anything and they were paying guests! Outside besides the pool most of the tiles are broken and crumbling and all they did was paint over them in a dark green paint! Like everyone else we found the pools to be freezing. the 'heated pool ' was reportedly 26 degrees, but the sea was warmer than the heated pool. The pool staff take samples of the water twice a day but he takes it from the one heating pipe into the pool, which didn't represent the true temperature. One good point though is that the staff clear the pools twice a day minimum, although this did not clear the scum off the heated pool caused presumably by suncream and people not showering, (but that is not the hotels fault). Service in the restaurants was terrible, particularly if you wished to sit on the terraces - you have to get your own cutlery and your own drinks. The only way to get any service is to tip the waiters heavily. Even when you do manage to find a waiter to ask for drinks they just don't bother to bring it! The food was covered in flies most of the time and the chefs just stand there not even attempting to keep them off the food. Not all the restaurants are open every meal time and we found the food average compared to our previous experiences and is the same every week. We just tried to eat freshly cooked food most of the time such as pasta / pizza / kebabs etc to reduce our chances of gastroenteritis but we still got it. That ruined the best part of a week of our holiday. Incidently if you do need to go the pharmacy for drotazide or rehydration sachets for gastroeneteritis don't use the pharmacy in the hotel as he rips you off big time - 120LE for 2 sachets and 1 pack of tablets which cost 20 LE at the pharmacy in la strada. All the hotel shops were grossly overpriced, as is the internet - which comprises 2 PCS on the main hotel corrider so everyone can see what you have on screen. we found the internet cafe 5 mins down the road outside the regency hotel with the cleopatra supermarket great value. The beach is small, gravelly and the sunbeds are okay (if you could get one), although many were broken as was the case by the pools. I have never known a place so bad for people bagging sunbeds at 6.30am then not using them until 10am. The hotel has a notice stating you can't reserve a bed until 6.30am, so by 8am there is hardly any left. If you really want good snorkelling, dont go to this hotel. you have to walk down the long jetty or walk about half a mile through the sea thats knee deep with dead corals to get to water thats deep enough to snorkel and there wasn't that much to see while we were there. It is also very choppy so unless you are a good swimmer dont bother . It is far better at the other end of the resort or in sharks bay.
there is only 1 bar in the main hotel at night and you wait for ever it seems to be served. then all the seats are taken. The relax pool bar is open to 6pm and you get the best service there from a guy called saleh - he is wonderful - so friendly and helpful and if the bar is quiet he will bring your drinks over. Evening entertainment is rubbish. water play facilities for kids are good. Gardens are well maintained and the general cleanliness both inside and outside the hotel is very good.
Overall I just cannot recomend this hotel. It needs a good refurb and not just a lick of paint to bring it anywhere near to a 4*. You would also need to improve the service from the majority of staff as well as the facilities to make it a 4*. there are far nicer hotels further down the strip and probably not directly under the flight path for sharm airport as this one. Great for you if like plane spotting, otherwise extremely noisy!!

we went with thomas cook via olympic, fantastic company, very helpfull gr8 rep at hotel. on arrival at airport was hit with gr8 weather, once on the coach we had about 20 mins on the coach and we found everywhere the touists police and every road juntion was speed bumps with police guarding that patch of the road. even at the hotel they had security front and back of hotel. the hotel is massive and we were given our key 6pm ish it was dark and we wandered for ages, we saw a manager and asked him for room 274 he went off for 15-20 mins leaving us by the pool he came back and took us to the room once (i felt) he knew where it was. he even asked for a tip!!!
the room was fantastic with 3 double beds and a walk in shower and very clean, view was to the side of the hotel but was quiet as the other side backs to the pool and entertainment which was noisy.
5 resturants but opened different times we walked around them all and to be honest mostly did the same foods, the italian had a pasta bar and pizza bar, but we found it easier to settle in one resturant for the main course that we liked and we always ended up in the med resturant for pudding as they had a large selection as they didnt replace the sweets at the other resturants as much
there was plenty of tea and coffee and soft drink dispensors everywhere. dont be annoyed by the little plastic cups, there hygenic and safety around the pool, we did manage to get large plastic glasses and kept them with us.
the pool looks fantastic but the water was so cold it takes your breath away, couldnt understand that as it was 30 degree's the sea was warmer.
we did 2 trips one to the submarine boats to sea the coral and it was very good, took loads of pics, the second trip was to cairo, as we wanted to see the pyramids. two choices by coach which is 8 hrs each was and knowing now they are mad mad drivers trust. or by plane which is what we did for £152 each well worth it as it takes 50 mins.we left at 430am for 6am flights. full guided tour to the citidal monestry then to see papa paper being made then lunch at tgi fridays on the river nile on a boat which was terrible, grilled chicken with rice and veg.
we then went to the pyramids which was breathtaking and to see the the museum was out of this world to see king tuts treasures. i did feel though rushed all day by the guide as he had to have us back at the airport by 515 for flights back, we got delayed and arrived back at the hotel 1030pm
honest i had never been so tired and we didnt even eat just shower and bed lol.
we had 3 days left and we had already descide to do nothing just chilled by the pool and top the tan up.
overall we enjoyed it just to see the pyramids and for november the SUN.
my wife felt a bit intimidated by the men as women are treated poorly out theres, thats why we stayed within the complex as we had heard storys from the other guests when they went to the town on the shuttle bus all hotels provide.
would i go back-probually yes but only again for a weeks winter holiday and another hotel.

having arrived after a long day I was told to take a seat. Reception seemed to be very vague and after about half an hour nobody had approached me, in fact there was about ten of us sat there.Eventually the manager came and told us that all our rooms had been double booked and we would have to move for one night. No problem for me as i was on my own. The next day we were picked up at 11am taken back to our hotel but it was 4pm before we got a room,so by the time you were settled that was two days of the holiday gone. The hotel is vast and if you are situated by the relaxation pool you a lot of walking to do. The restaurants are OK but I found that you had to get a different dish from each to make up a meal. The bar service is very slow and if you want a cocktail don't be surprised if they tell you they have run out, they just cannot be bothered when they are busy.Go to the beach bar at night,it's so bad it'slike something out of Phoenix nights.Entertainment at night is terrible. One last thing, the floors are like polished glass so watch yourself. All in all I was there for a fortnight and had a brill time but like I said I was on my own so I could make my own fun, definately not equipped for a family.
