“What a fantastic resort!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Just got back from a fantastic stay between 13th and 27th August 2013 at Sea Gardens, despite the troubles and the Eastern European guests it was great. I took my 2 boys and would definitely go back.

Loads of shade and non stop drinks available.

We stayed in a standard room and it was spacious clean and well maintained, no bath was a little surprising. The gardens and pool areas were maintained very well. Beautiful views and you don't get pestered that much by people selling trips etc.

Great food and great choice at all restaurants. The 3 a la carte restaurants were really worth the effort.

The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The pools were very clean and never a problem getting a sunbed. Beach is perfect and again very well maintained.

NEGATIVES -
The Russians and Eastern Europeans, why are they so rude and ignorant. How come they are the only people who constantly walk on the coral? Why do they treat the resort staff like dirt? Why do they always push in at the front of queues?

I felt that it was a liberty that Sea Garden, Sea Club and Sea Life guests had to pay to use Sea Club Aqua Park, where as their guests used our facility for free!!!

On site pharmacy was a rip off, they charged 55.00£E for diarrhoea tablets you could buy from a local pharmacy for 2.50£E!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Stayed in this hotel between 13th to 23rd August 2013. First thing to say is that this was in the middle of a lot of upheaval in Cairo but this had no impact on Sharm. At the time of writing Sharm is very much open for business as usual.
Upon returning home I reviewed some of the good reviews & some of the bad reviews on the hotel & I can see where both sets of reviewers are coming from.
I have not stayed in Sharm before but I have stayed in Egypt and so I cannot really compare this to other hotels in the town regarding value etc.
Basically I budgeted a certain amount of money & then having taken into account the air fares I chose Sea Gardens based on price & the number of good reviews on trip advisor.
When considering this hotel please remember exactly how much you are paying for it.
We had a family room (2 adults 2 teenagers) for 9 nights in the height of school holiday season, all inclusive, for £800 ish.
I would have just about got a self-catering caravan in Skegness for that.
The first annoying thing that happened to us was nothing to do with the hotel. At the airport after a 5 hour flight we were met by a crowd of Egyptians waving Thomson, Cosmos etc. banners (including one with our names on it) & directing us to queues. At the front of the queue we were informed that we would require visas. I did not think that we needed visas unless we went out of Sharm. But no they were adamant that we had to buy visas. So reluctantly I coughed up £52 for 4 visas. I later discovered that only certain trips need these & none of the ones inside Sharm. Therefore please check what excursions you might want to do in advance & if you don’t need visas – don’t get conned at arrivals.
The 3 hotels sea club, sea life, sea gardens are all interconnected. There is no barrier whatsoever between sea life & sea club & all of the buildings look the same. Once you have registered at your relevant reception & got your wrist bands you may as well be staying at any of the 3 , the amenities are completely interchangeable. There is a 4th hotel the Sea Aqua park. This one is a couple of miles down the road but is completely separate. You have to pay £15 for entry to that park with only a burger thrown in.
Sea Gardens does not have a glitzy marble reception like the other 2 & so from that perspective is the poor relation. But so what ? as I say, once booked in you can use the bars/shops at the other two receptions.
At reception we were offered an “upgrade” for 90 euros. Take the opportunity to get the staff to show you the room they propose to give you & the “upgrade”. We found that our garden family room (3520) was actually better than the pool room they were trying to sell as an upgrade.
There is an effort going on to upgrade the accommodation. We had a brand new Samsung tv ( I also saw 20-30 others being delivered during our stay) & lovely king size bed. The girls were in a separate area with 2 single beds.
The bathroom was slightly worn but no real problems & certainly no issues with cleanliness.
Indeed all of the hotel rooms, gardens, resteraunt etc. were very clean.
No matter how you book you will get the services of a rep. We booked flights & hotel separately & saved a few hundred pounds on the package prices of the main operators.
Sharm is like a bit of Europe in a poor African county & charges European prices. Therefore most things were similar / slightly cheaper priced than at home.
You will probably get bored of the hotel after a while so budget for some excursions.
Quad Bikes are good value £35 per person, water parks vary between £15 & £25. The desert adventure 50 , snorkelling off boats 45 submarine 30 etc etc.
The location of the hotel is remote to say the least. There is NOTHING apart from the odd bit of construction work in walking distance. Unless you take a taxi you will be in the hotel grounds for the duration of your stay. Further along the coast there is a large town, so if you want a night life Naam bay is probably more where you want to go.
Each of the 3 hotels has a large pool. All of them are quite similar. The major difference is the makeup of the guests. When we were there sea gardens was mainly British, Sea Life Italians & Sea Club Russians. We spent most of our time at Sea Gardens with the British. The flip side of this is that the salesman targets the English so you were approached regularly by people trying to sell you trips massages etc. Because they are all site based salesmen they will get to know you quickly & leave you alone more as time goes by. One exception was beauty salesman Kareem. This guy was a legend – we spent 3 days trying to avoid him & find excuses for not visiting him only to be finally tracked down & cornered on our last day – eventually my wife gave up & had a foot treatment.
The Beach is part sandy where the loungers were but then straight onto a coral shelf around the water & then into the water itself. You will definitely need shoes to explore the water properly, and the water is well worth exploring. If you see a gang of people in the shallows go & see what they are looking at rather than avoiding them. The fish shoal in the shallows & you can snorkel in 2 feet of water & see hundreds of fish. There is also a jetty with a very impressive reef. Unfortunately it’s manned by a less than impressive lifeguard so beware of Russians jumping in on top of you. As pointed out in a previous review, there is a strong current & sometimes the red flag flies so don’t leave it until your last day before visiting. The beach was always virtually empty & no problem with sun loungers. The pool was not so good & you needed to be there by 9 to get a spot.
Entertainment on site was hopeless. The animation team were ok at organising pool sports but were of little use besides. The evening shows by the animation teams were so bad they were almost funny. Some of the humour would be bordering on the offensive to some.
There are no water sports on site & little shopping so the whole thing can get a little confined at times.
Food is buffet style. Book up for the a la carte options on the day of your arrival. The waiting lists were several days in advance & you do want to take advantage of these to break up the buffets.
We only got around to booking up late in the holiday which was a mistake because we only managed to get a booking for the El Diwana Lebanese restraint. This was well worth a visit, the views from the terrace were very good & the food (bbq meat) was very good.
Standard food consisted of a buffet service with a number of options which remained constant e.g. pasta bar, vegetables, rice etc. & some “themed” offerings e.g. spaghetti Bolognese on Italian night, beef on French night, spicy on Mediterranean night etc. etc. The three restraints all had similar food & we stuck to the Sea Gardens most of the time due to convenience & the fact that we thought the waiters were more polite there (not that there was any problems on any of the sites regarding service). The food was obviously from cheap cuts of meat (I saw some packaging one day which was probably not meant to be left lying around in the restaurant which proved to me that meat did not necessarily mean beef !!). However it was all cooked well & there was enough variety to keep us going for 9 days – I probably would recommend a visit off site for dinner towards the end of your trip just for something a bit different though.
Remember to take Imodium & hydrolytes with you. They cost a fortune in the pharmacy & our experience & those of most others during our stay shows that one of your party probably will need them. I think this is just a fact of life in Egypt. I saw no obvious signs of bad hygiene within the restaurant itself.
There were a couple of small niggles with the holiday – but they were small & of no serious consequence really. Firstly the safe would not work because the batteries had run low. Secondly my daughter had an accident & fell down some stairs & half ripped her nail from her finger. We went to reception & asked for a first aid kit – which they did not have. Eventually after several phone calls a kit was located by the pool & we were sent down there. They had a basic first aid kit there but no one had a clue how to apply a bandage. Luckily my wife is a first aider so she bandaged it up well enough to last a couple of days until we got home.
I leave the best till last about this hotel & that was the service. We never encountered any problems at all with any member of staff. Some went way beyond the call of duty. I do think that this is one area that the management team on site really promote amongst the staff. I was chatting with one waiter who was keener on me giving him a positive report on the leaving cards you fill in than a tip.
Regarding tipping. Tip the pool guy day 1 & provided you are at the pool by 9 he will get you sun loungers. Tip your cleaner by half the amount on day 1 & half the amount on your last day. Tip Pool bar staff on day 1 for drinks.
The rest of the staff will be great all of the time & we just gave some of these guys a tip at the end.
Overall I would say the hotel offers good value for money. I would probably give it 3.5 stars but there is little to do onsite apart from the pool & a couple of trips to the beach. Therefore think well in advance about what you want from a holiday. If its guaranteed sun, lounging by the pool & you don’t expect a 5* hotel for 2* prices then this hotel ticks all of the boxes.

Room Tip: The staff will offer upgrades. Look at the room they will give you & the upgrade before decidin...

Thank you for choosing to spend your vacation in Sea Gardens and taking the time to write a detailed review.

All comments we receive enable us to make improvements to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. The Aquapark costs $25 for All inclusive or $15 for snacks and soft drink. The on site entertainment is across the three hotels, in addition to the animation shows we have Singers, Musicians, Egyptian Show, Bellydancer and the Professional Fire Show at the beach party.

It's pleasing to read you enjoyed the food, particularly the El Diwania restaurant. Should you return in the future please contact the hotel before to arrange the A La Carte reservation for you.

Look forward to welcoming you back to Sea Group Resorts in the future.

Kind Regards

We are a family with a 17 year old and a 13 year old. We had a family suite which was very large ( bathroom a little tired, but cleaned to a very high standard ). Pools all lovely but the Sea Life pool did get a bit crazy and loud. The gardens in the Sea Life were stunning and the beach was also great ( rocky so take water shoes ). Restaurants good. The a la carte restaurants although a nice change, were not special and you would not bother to pay to repeat the experience. The waiting staff in the sea garden were fabulous especially Sidique who was professional, polite and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was looked after. One of the waiters at the pool bar was a bit grumpy but they all worked very hard and you did not have to go to the bar for a drink at all which was really nice. The nicest bar was an outside bar by the pool at the Sea Club. Overall a very relaxing break.

Had a lovely two weeks with 3 kids, aged 13, 12 and 5. Our 4th visit to Sharm and this is by far the best hotel we have stayed at. Staff were friendly and great with the kids. Beach is not that great, but plenty of pools to make up for it. Visiting the waterpark is a definite must! Am going back next year April!

We stayed at Sea Gardens 3rd - 17th Aug 2013. It was extremely relaxing, a beautiful place with vey friendly people. The hotel is comfortable, the rooms were very large, quiet and well air conditioned. The bathroom could do with updating, lighting (especially in shower area) was poor, but this did not affect our stay at all.
The pool is fantastic, we did not want a water park type hotel and as this hotel is the smallest of the 3 hotels in the complex we found it reasonably quiet and relaxing, our children loved it (aged, 11, 8 & 7)
The food choices were great, you can eat in the other 2 hotels too, and the 3 al a carte restaurants are great, especially the Teppenyaki restaurant! We had a brilliant evening there.
Although the hotel is very close to the airport (we were in the bar having our first all inclusive beer within 45 minutes of landing) the planes don't fly over the hotel, so we didn't feel close to the airport.
Max at the Papyrus shop inside the lobby of Sea Life hotel was lovely, he gave us an amazing Egyptian history lesson, the kids loved him and we spent 2 hours in the shop chatting with him. We did leave with some beautiful pictures too, not at all expensive and a great reminder of our time in Egypt.

We arrived at sea gardens on the 21st July for 11 nights. After a flight with easy jet and a very swift airport experience we were sat in the lobby bar approx 40 mins after landing!
Check in was quick and we upgraded our room to a pool view suite. Room was large but very dated. Our boys had sofa beds in one room with a tv, so there really wasn't anywhere to sit as these are permanently made up. We had a lovely (super king sized) bed in a very large room.
The bathroom is what lets the rooms down. The shower is very dark and dingy and more often than not cold!! Took our breath away most nights!!
There is a free safe for use, which is recommended. Tea and coffee facilities, which we didn't use, and water in a mini bar.
We found that we got towel art only when we tipped the cleaner!
The air con was fab. Really couldn't do without it in 35 degree heat in the middle of the night!
Our room was 6504 and had a great pool view. A new flat screen tv was installed whilst we were there. It was a bit wonky, but a good picture!!!
The pool and grounds were fabulous. Across all 3 hotels, the gardens were a pleasure to walk through. Lots of rock formations, ponds etc etc. We tended to stay by the Sea Gardens pool as our sons had made friends around there. But we did use the Sea Club one once and spent the morning at the beach once too.
Staff around the Sea Gardens were the best! We noticed the difference after visiting Sea Life and Sea Club resturants.
We dined in all 3 buffet resturants and all 3 a la carte. We loved the Japanese a la carte. Our son said the food was the best! The lebanese was nice too, but the one on the beach was rubbish really!
We enjoyed some of the food in the buffet resturants. It was a bit 'hit or miss' for our boys though. They really struggled some nights, and they don't live on chips like others do!!! I loved the Egyptian night. It was such a shame to see such lovely food not tried by other holidaymakers, as this night was very quiet! I had seconds!!! Lol
The drinks were fine too. NOT watered down spirits like some are saying. I had gin&tonics every night and knew that if I had more than 4 I would be hung over the next day!!! And I drink gin most nights at home!!! My husband said the beer was nice too.
The entertainment at night was truely awful. They might as well had not bothered really. This was the same at all the hotels! The amphitheatre entertainment at Sea Club had to been seen to be believed!!!
It was our first time in Egypt and didn't know what to expect. The reps around the pools selling trips were a pain but when we told them we had only just arrived and wanted to relax for a few days, they did leave us alone. BUT after a few days they were back!!! Lol
We ended up doing the sunset quad biking, which we loved! £60 for 2adults 2children. I had a pedicure and my husband had his haircut in the Sea Life salon! And we booked 4 water sports with zizo. My boys parasailed, we all had a banana ride, 2 go's on a large inflatable and a speed boat trip. We absolutely loved it all and we went to the beach at sharks bay to do it, which had fab snorkelling.
In Nabq (approx £11 return in a taxi with a very funny driver. Booked through reception) there is: McDonald's, KFC, burger king, tgi Fridays, hard rock cafe and a couple of English pubs. We went there twice and ate at Hard Rock on our last night. For 4 main meals and drinks it came to £380Egyptian.
Be prepared to be hassled by shopkeepers though!
I enjoyed my stay in sharm and didn't get ill once! My husband was ill though! We couldn't work out why though as I ate salads, had ice in drinks and tried different foods. He didn't!!! He was still abit ill once we got home. On and off for about 5 days! It's put him off ever returning........which I'm gutted about as I would love to go back, to a different hotel though! We like to try different hotels. If this one upgraded its rooms, and I mean a total refit of bathrooms and furniture, it would earn its 4 star rating. At the moment it is 5 star grounds and staff with 3 star accommodation! Which is a real shame.
To finish I have 2 negative points!
1: having to pay £15 each to use a hotel in the same group just because it has a waterpark is disgusting! They push this on you on check in and around the pool everyday! We had friends stay there earlier in the season and it didn't cost THEM to come to use our 3 hotels!!!! If the price was £5 I'm sure more people would use it!
2: for a 4/5 star hotel they really should have a facility for families to shower and get changed when they have later flights. We had to pay €21 to keep our room on till 5 o'clock. We only got this rate because our air con broke one night! And we know families that got it for FREE!!!
One final tip that no one told us is take $, € and £'s. They work in all these currency's BEFORE their own!!!
Enjoy............!

Thank you for choosing to spend your vacation with us in Sea Gardens. It's pleasing to see you found friendly staff throughout the Sea Gardens are enjoyed the opportunity to use all three hotels within the resort. The Aquapark is for extra charge, i would however like to point out the guests of the Aquapark are only permitted to use the Beach and Beach Bar of Sea Life, they are not able to use any of the other facilities within the three hotels.

The Kids Corner is available in the main restaurants of Sea club and Sea Life, your positive comments regarding the food in the Japanese and Lebanese, particularly on Egyptian night are appreciated.

All of the comments we receive are noted and acted upon, enabling us to make improvements to ensure guests have an enjoyable stay.

My husband Colin and I visited the Sea garden resort on the 25th of July , my two sons are aged 7 and 12. This was our first visit to Egypt and I will admit having travelled to many wonderful places I was not sure what to expect. I chose the hotel based on tripadvisor reviews and I am so glad I did. From the minute we arrived at the hotel we were treated like royalty!. Hany at the reception was excellent ,very welcoming. He ushered us in to dinner before the restaurant closed while our bags were delivered to our room.Throughout our stay Hany and the rest of the reception staff could not have done anymore for us, their service was excellent. My room was very large and clean with two aircon units. Ibrahim did an excellent job of cleaning our room and the large super comfy bed was to die for.Yes the bathroom was a little tired but who goes on holiday to inspect the quality of tile grouting anyway!!. The food in the resturant was excellent. It was fresh, well cooked, very well presented and had something for everyone. Mohammed the resturant manager does an excellent job of organising and overseeing everything in the resturant. Said our wonderful waiter made us feel very special and looked after us very well at every meal. Thankyou very much Said .My kids loved the pool and being a lover of the sea I definitely came to the right place.Snorkling off the pier was a truly wonderful experience.Okay the beach is not the Caribbean but the sea was well worth it. Ronny at Sea life beach bar was excellent and Ahmed at Sea life beach laid out my beach towels for me everyday, I told you we were treated like royalty.I am so glad I gave Edypt a chance and I would highly recommend the Sea gerden resort. The staff really do make this hotel special and we will definitely see you all soon. Thank you all so much.
