My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 1 week from 8 September 2009. We were worried about our deal, as we booked all inclusive and then heard it had changed management, and was changing from AI to B&B/HB. Everyone at the hotel was on the same basis as us, so I dont think they had any guests who have booked B&B yet. They honoured our booking exactly as we had booked so we still got AI.
The hotel is the last on the strip and we were the last drop off from the hotel, so we got to see everyone else's hotels. We thought they looked grand...that was until we saw ours! Very impressive, fountains at the front of the hotel and a huge reception lobby. The ceilings and columns in the hotel have changing colour light patterns all over them, which is really unique. The hotel is modern and contemporary. throughout.
The hotel has a few gift shops and a pharmacy, but if you're looking to go out to the shopping strip or nightclubbing you will need to get a taxi.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the manager with cocktails. He surprised us by upgrading us from the promo room which we had booked to a sea view room and there was a fruit platter and sandwiches in our room, which was a nice touch. The room is spacious and the bed is huge - big enough for 4 people in it, let alone two! The rooms basically look like the computerised images that were up on the net. Sofa in the room, mini fridge which was stocked every day with water, juice, sprite, coca cola. (free). Balcony with a sun lounger and chair & table. The bathroom was fab & had a big rain overhead shower as well as a standard shower. Slippers & shampoos etc were provided. Big plasma screen in the room with lots of channels. So as you can tell, the room was amazing!
The Hotel pool is huge and has a swim up bar which is cool. The hotel doesn't have many guests in it so we were always in the pool on our own! Jacuzzi was also great - you can sit in there watching the sun set in the nearby mountains. Beautiful, beuatiful views. The beach is great too - half is a typical sandy beach and the other half is slightly pebble-ly, but this is where the coral is. I'm scared of going snorkelling/far in the sea, but I only had to take 3/4 steps in (up to my knees) and I could see all the tropical fish as the water is crystal clear. There are loads of them and they swim around you. My boyfriend went snorkelling and he saw blowfish, lion fish etc and he didnt even have to swim out that far. Again, there were never many people on the beach.
The buffet restaurant is great. The food is of a very high quality and there is such a great selection - chicken of all sorts, pastas (made to however you like), fish, breads, veg, kebabs etc etc. Every day we were the food was completely different. The salad is washed in mineral water so eating that is fine. Loads of different deserts. No queues and you can eat as much as you want! The A La Carte restaurants were amazing too - we ate in all three - Italian, Chinese & Oriental (which basically is Egyptian). The food in these ones, is set and about 7 courses! Each restaurant is decorated differently and in the Chinese one we had a singing waiter! All the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay amazing and they never made us feel like we had to tip. (Some of the Egyptians elsewhere can be quite pushy)
The entertainment isn't too big at the moment because there aren't many guests! While we were there, there was belly dancing, guitarist, kareoke, bingo, volleyball, water aerobics. The animation team were very friendly. The manager says the hotel will become moe busy in October.
In the reception there is a Cosmos/Monarch brochure that has trip details in it. We didn't book through this tour operator but you can still book the trips with their reps. (Cheaper than using Tiran Tours who the Hotel promotes). We went to Cairo by plane one day to do the Pyramids, which is 100% well worth doing. It cost 175. We also did the stargazer trip which is 37 pounds and was so unbelievably good. Included in that trip we rode a camel in the desert watching sunset, climbed a mountain to see the sun going down, smoked the shiesha pipe, had a bedouin dinner, danced round the fire with the bedouins and saw the stars at night, including the Milky Way & Jupiter through a telescope!! Very romantic and such good value!
I have travelled all over the world and this is by far, my best holiday ever!! With the new management rules, ie half board and no all inclusive,I dont think they will do very well because there are so many other hotels offering AI. However if you have already booked and are going under the old style (AI) then you're in for a treat!! Enjoy!
