“Sweet Hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

Clean rooms, great views, nice kitchen, a place to do laundry where it'll actually dry--what more could you want out of a hostel? My wife and I have traveled through Latin America for about seven months, and Hostel Chasqui is the standard we judge other hostels by--it's the best we've found. If you're in Otavalo, you should stay here. Unless you don't like all that is good in life, in which case you should stay somewhere else.

Roberto, the owner is friendly, helpful, welcoming and runs a clean, extremely competitively priced hostel. Although its called Hostal, the rooms are actually private. The kitchen is clean and very well equipped, with the food market only 5-10 minutes walk away. Washing machine was available to use for free. Roberto gave us advice on local sights we wouldn't otherwise have found, and was relaxed about check out times. Roof terrace had a great view over the city. One downside is it's a little bit away from the plaza de ponchos, but don't let that put you off staying at the best place in town.

Had a great time here and the owner, Roberto, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Was able to get a 2nd floor single room with great views and hot shower for $9 a night. Couldn't recommend this place more.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the rooms attached to the open patio/balcony on the 2nd floor.

We had a really great stay at this hostal. Roberto, the owner, is one of the most charming hosts you could hope for. He is always happy to make suggestions and offer advice for things to do. It's a big hostel with loads of rooms but it's very chilled out and relaxing at the same time. If you want a tv and dvd player in your room all you need to do is ask. The guest kitchen is excellent and a great place to meet the other guests. The hostel is a great choice for anyone on a budget.

We stayed in Otavalo during 1 week and we would have liked to stay more or bring Roberto in each hostal. We felt so good in Chasqui hotel.
Rooms and hotel are very clean, spacious, rooms are cleaned everyday, kitchen is really really good (we loved cooking there) and brand new. The view on Otavalo is amazing.
Area is quiet and Roberto, the owner, treated us very nice, we felt more friends than costumers. And price is reasonable.
It is a really good option to stay in Otavalo!

We only stayed there one night but it was good. Water hot, rooms clean and nice, nice staff. You have to ring the bell for service which is kind of strange and leads to a wait. The building is nice but a little way out of the populated part of town; the walk during the day is nice but at night a little unsettling-I would take a taxi instead of walking next time!
