and impecably managed by a welcoming and informative owner. The best hotel we stayed at during a 4 week trip to Peru and Ecuador - both because of the friendly, efficient and helpful owner and because of the location which is in the old historic part of Guayaquil and also at one end of a malecon which is full of life at the weekend. Steeped in history and beautifully restored this is light years away from the blandness of the international chain of hotels. Communal areas as well as bedrooms were very comfortable and the beds were the best we have stayed in away from home - and we have done a lot of travelling since retiring 3 years ago.

Our last night in a hectic, 5-week trek through South America. We arrived exhausted, dusty, hungry and slightly jaded by the quality of previous hotels. It would take a lot to impress us!
Color us impressed, and then some. This place is stunning. Terrific, safe location. Lovely view. Impeccable service. And a gracious, worldly host. Can't imagine considering any other place in Guayaquil.

Room Tip: View of the river

A charming Boutique B&B. The beautiful building is a restored private home from the beginning of the 20th Century. It’s in an appealing location, in front of the Guayas River, next to the artists’ neighborhood, Guayaquil’s promenade and Santa Ana renovated port area. The rooms are well furnished with comfortable beds. The hotel has a very relaxing top roof with wonderful views on the river. Maria, the owner, is helpful and friendly. We had to leave the Hotel at 4:00 a.m., Maria and a staff member woke up and prepared a light breakfast for us.
We will stay in this hotel any time we visit Guayaquil!!!!

The house:
- old french and Spanish colonial style
- very friendly and helpful owner
- breakfast is very simple but enough
- the terasse is astonish, unf no one was there in the evening to serve drinks

The room:
- our room was big but it smelled a little bit wet and old

The location:
- the best location hence it is directly in the old part where it is very safe

--> ideally place to go their for one night before to go to Galapagos

I just wrapped up a very nice two night stay at the Mansion del Rio before heading to Cuenca.

Maria, the owner, is a very gracious host and was very helpful with touristic sites to see (including the Park of the Iguanas), restaurants to go to and located the nearest Tame airline office and let them know that I was coming, also letting the office know that I spoke only a little Spanish.

My flight to Guayaquil was almost an hour late arriving from Miami - the driver from the Hotel was there to meet me and Maria stayed up late to greet my arrival.

The Hotel is located near the end of the Malecon. Just a few minutes walk down a charming cobblestoned street filled mostly with artist's galleries and you are there.

The Mansion del Rio is in an excellent location. It is more like staying in an older mansion than a hotel and is filled with wall and ceiling murals, antique furniture and artwork. The hotel is very clean and the service was very attentive. The internet was a bit spotty due to the hotel being located near the mountain but this is something you just learn to work with.

Overall, I highly recommend the Mansion del Rio when you are visiting Guayaquil.

A charming hotel in a great location in Barrio Penas, next to the river.
This delightful 1920's building is full of beautiful antiques, chandeliers etc to suit the style. There is also a wonderful roof-top terrace with fabulous views over the river. Perfect after a day in the city.
The rooms are nicely furnished with very comfy beds.
Our hostess Maria is charming, welcoming and helpful. She is extremely eager to help.
We're very pleased to have stayed at Mansion del Rio for a couple of nights.
