“Nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Nice place, very good stuff, nice view to old town (from sea side balcony).

Room Tip: We was in Hotel Park few times, but all of it at seaside. Nice view of yacht port and old town

We stayed 18-25 May 2012

On the positive side, this hotel is very well located just a short, and very pleasant, walk to the centre of Rovinj (although other hotels are only a further 10 mins or so along the coast). The food if good and plentiful (it being a buffet) and the drinks are cheap! About £3.50 for a cocktail.

The staff are friendly (but see blow). The facilities are good but the pool is lacking a bit of atmosphere.

Normally I wouldn’t have written a review as it’s an adequate hotel and good value for money.

But….

On the Saturday night there was a wedding in the conference area (which is right at the bottom of the hotel to one side). We were told on arrival of this and even looked forward to seeing a Croatia wedding in full flow. The swimming pool was closed at 2pm as the guests had exclusive use of the area (first error – the hotel had already sold that facility to its 400 gests!).

We went out that even and came back about 12 to find a very loud live band playing. That’s okay, we thought, it’s a Saturday night and it’s wedding. It’ll finishing soon, we thought. Just check with reception. They didn’t know. Guessed 2am.

Couldn’t sleep as our room was right over the conf area. 2.45am call to reception. ‘When is this music going to stop?’ “Don’t know,” they said. “When was the room booked until,” we asked. “Don’t know,” they said. “Who is duty manager tonight,” we asked. “Haven’t got one,” they said.

3.30am, fed up with music I decided to go to the wedding reception itself to find a staff member who may know what’s going on. He didn’t know when it would finish.

Pleading with him to get them to turn the music down but he just shrugged (yes, shrugged his shoulders). I insisted so he asked a guest to ask the band to tone it down, but he decided to have a dance instead.

So I marched into the reception and accosted the bride and groom and said it’s unreasonable to play loud music at this hour in a hotel full of guests. (I know, not ideal, but I was getting absolutely no help form the staff).

“It’s our wedding night,” the groom replied. “It’s our holiday,” I said. “This is one night for us, you have seven more,” he said. Hmmm. It was a bit quieter after that (but still couldn’t sleep) until it finally finished at 5.10am.

Next day we found the manager who told us the room had been booked until 3am but the wedding kept asking for ‘another half an hour’.

We did get money back as compensation (the room cost for one night). (The Thomson rep was very good). But, still, the facts are that no one on duty knew when the room had been booked until, no one knew when the music should finish by, no one seemed to care or take responsibility. The fact a wedding had been booked (denying guests access to the pool and then a night’s sleep) implies this hotel relies on its huge bulk bookings from tour operators.

If you are thinking of booking, a) check to see if a wedding is planned and b) if it is, ask for a room on the other side of the hotel!

Room Tip: Avoid those to the left of the hotel as you face it.

Overall we were pretty disappointed with our stay here considering how much our stay here cost us. Our main issue was with the air conditioning which didn't work, we moved to another room but it didn't work there either. We were subsequently told it wasn't working on the entire fourth floor and that it wouldn't be fixed that night. We weren't moved to a third room.

The reception and breakfast room were a bit chaotic with German and British tour groups.

The swimming pool area looked nice but we didn't use it.

Poor value for money and there are better options in Rovinj which is a really beautiful town,

Room Tip: Ensure the air conditioning is working in your room

I'm one of those people who no matter how much I pay (within reason) or what I put on the request form (always ignored) I'm given the worst room. In this case I was given almost what I had paid for and asked for - seaview room on high level - only it was on the first floor. The view was to die for - overlooking Rovinj which cascades down a hill and then around a harbour and marina - island views and blue sea. However, the room was tiny. We went back to reception and was offered a much bigger room on a higher floor with a sea view overlooking St Catherines island, so we were happy. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated but it's location is convenient, the breakfast buffet is very extensive and rather good, the views are beautiful, and there's an sizable indoor as well as outdoor pool. My husband trained as a massuere and said the massage in the spa centre is very professional and reasonably priced. It was fairly quiet in May, apart from the Germans, and overall didn't really have any compliants. However, when we went for a walk through the pine forests and away from the town, we came across the Lone Hotel. It may be designed to death but it's in a different league to the Park.

Walking into the Park Hotel, Rovinj and I thought I'd inadvertantly found myself in 1980s Miami. The only thing missing was Scarface's Tony Montana. This is because the hotel lobby has a glamourous, decadent feel to it which immediately puts one in the holiday mood. The rest of the hotel looks a bit like a stranded cruise liner ... not sure if it were designed like this on purpose but the external architecture is definitely a bit eccentric.

This doesn't matter though, as the views from the hotel are magical and the bedrooms are extremely clean. The positioning of the hotel, for me, worked too. It was far away enough from town to feel slightly exclusive/peaceful, but in reality it's a few minutes walk away from the centre.

I had several massages in the beauty salon and one in the actual massage room. Both were excellent and deserve a mention as highly recommended. There is a great indoor swimming pool and I swam a few lengths in the outdoor pool too but, in May, it was still a bit chilly.

Food at the hotel is self service, and at times I found the dining room a bit noisy and crowded. However, the food itself was great. There's a huge range of high quality grub. Although my preference is to be healthy, the delicious chocolate pancakes and waffles were too hard to resist. Only complaint was the coffee which isn't up to UK standards yet.

Rovinj itself is fairytale gorgeous. Take a sunset trip on Gordon's boat 'la Mare'. You can't miss it - it's the one blasting out jazz as you walk into town. The glass bottomed boat trip is great too. And Sante Croce restaurant does incredible steaks, in a beautiful & elegant setting. Croation ice cream is renowned and it was my experience that any random kiosk, from the many that were in the town, could be guaranteed to sell sensational ice cream.

The only other thing to mention about the Park was the rubbish wi-fi. If you are hoping to get away from your smart device, then this is definitely the place to do it. However, if you want to keep connected, then don't rely on the Park.

All in all, it was an enjoyable stay.

Small rooms, but not to small for us! really liked the breakfast bufè and the view from the table. The staff is friendly and the hotel is clean. It's close to the mini-mart and a pizzeria. You have to walk to get to the city of Rovinj but it's not to far a walk.
Love the pool area and the aerobic!

Room Tip: Choose a room with view over the ocean and city
