“Roll on next year - we're going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2011

I still find it amazing that for a 2 hour flight you can arrive somewhere so amazing! We absolutely loved our holiday at the Hotel Istra. We stayed there for 2 weeks from May 20th and the weather for starters was brilliant. When we arrived it was lateish, so missed dinner, but there waiting in our room was a cold meal of meats and cheeses, bread, fruit and fruit juice - I cannot tell you how welcome this was and then the next morning when we pulled the curtains and looked out - well the view took our breath away!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was good (didn't see brussell sprouts in the morning - did see brockley and cauliflower though - someone must be eating it!!!) - we felt it was a very well run and organised organisation - noise levels in the restaurant could at times be buzzing but not excessive, in fact you didn't even notice after the first day. The island lovely - really felt like a desert island; the ferry back and forth also very good and we had many walk in the parkland over in Rovinj. One other thing - people warned us that it was an expensive place to holiday, well we did not think so at all - never spent so little!!!!! I could go on and on but I'm sure you'll get the gist of what I'm saying - GREAT!

Myself and my partner stayed here during the last week of May 2011. Its only 40mins transfer from Pula airport and then you have the added bonus of a 10 minute boat ride, (i think this adds a little extra something) to your very own hotel on an island! Not only that, there is a second island attached by a good short walkway and lots of little secluded coves for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.
The hotel itself totally exceeded our expectations, not only the stunning location but the staff were very friendly and tentative, food choices (including shark) and quality and general things to keep you occupied and thats all without stepping off the island. The whole place was spotless from top to bottom and inside out. There is a choice of pools, walks and general relaxation areas, overall a fantastic week in every way, we highly recommend and would definately return without hesitation.

Room Tip: Although all rooms are sea view, pay the extra!

We stayed at the hotel for two weeks in Early May and cannot wait to go back. This was the first closer to home holiday that we have had as we usually plump for Long Haul all inclusives so we were a bit dubious, but from the moment we arrived in Croatia (after a very short flight, under 2 hours) we did not look back.

The hotel is not the prettiest building, but it makes up for it inside. The rooms are lovely, the hotel public rooms and pools are very clean and bright and the two interlinking Islands are beautiful.

The food at the hotel was lovely, there was always plenty of choice incuding different fish, meat, pasta, pizza and salads everyday.

There is an indoor pool which is heated and 2 adult and 2 childrens outdoor pools (two of which are salt water). These were a little chilly in early May but not so cold that you couldn't use them, we swam in them everyday.

The beaches on the Islands and in Rovinj although pebbly are stunning and the water is crystal clear. We definitely want to go back when the sea has warmed up for a spot of snorkelling.

The ferry ride is quick and once you are in holiday mode there are no worries if you miss a ferry back to the Island from the main land as the Rovinj is beautiful (and the ice creams are lovely)!

The area in and around Rovinj is great for exploring on foot or bike and you are also ideally located for excusions, we went on a tour of Istria, a trip to Slovenia and also Venice. I would definitely recommend the Istria tour as well as the trip to Venice if you have not been, despite the fact it is a very tiring day!

I could write so much more about the hotel, all I will say is that we cannot wait to go back, the area is stunning, there is so much to do and we could not fault anything about the hotel.

stayed at Istra hotel for 7 days, very chilled and relaxing. Lovely little areas around hotel to sunbathe.Food buffet style but of very good standard.Excellent value for money as only paid £420 half board inc. wine/beer with evening meal. We ate out a couple of times as it is nice to go to other restaurants but for the price we paid still felt we got good value. Boat every hour to lovely town of Rovinj which feels a lot like being in italy but much cleaner from my experience.Night life at hotel poor but not a problem for us as went to Rovinj for a few hours each night and not too bothered about night life anyway. Don't think it would reall suit young adults unless they really wanted a low key holiday.Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: not all rooms have sea view as said in previous rv

We stayed in this hotel in Sep 2007, Sep 2010. Service, breakfast and dinner, position are the best you can find around in the city. Beach is clean, food choice is wonderfull, views from numbers are great. Rooms are clean. Boat service to/from Rovinj is free for guest (every hour from 6:00 till 23:00). SPA is present. We can recommend this hotel for beach vacation with children, senior guests and business meetings (great facilities for it).

From the moment we arrived at the port side overlooking the beautiful town of Rovinj to take our ferry to Hotel Istra we could not fault the hotel or the service provided.

The hotels setting was perfect with plenty to do and explore if you did not want to take the ferry to the main land.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The rooms were immaculate and clean with views over the surrounding sea and onto the mainland.

There was plenty of variety in the Restaurant which was light and airy.

Rovinj is a beautiful town and staying at the Hotel Istra was the icing on the cake. We would definatly recommend it and hope to stay again one day.

This is the best hotel I've ever stayed in on a package holiday. I couldn't fault it in any way. I had read some reviews moaning about the noisy canteen-style restaurant and was worried that I might find it uncomfortable due to my tinnitus. I needn't have worried, the noise level was not excessive at all and I don't know what the complainers expect in a restaurant catering for a 300-odd roomed hotel.
The choice of food was great. I'm not a fish eater, but I was surprised to see so much fish on the menus now that it is such an expensive commodity throughout the mediterranean. I can't remember all the fish, but during my week there I saw hake, makerel, squid, mussels, red mullet, grouper, fish soup, sardines, pollock.......
The walks around the two adjoining islands were wonderful. Each island has a circular coastal path which takes about 20 minutes to get around and would not be too much of a challenge for anyone with walking difficulties. There are plenty of benches at regular intervals where you can rest and watch the green lizards scurrying across the paths and the beautifully-ooloured wild pheasants chasing each other. Both islands are traffic free (except for the odd delivery vehicle in front of the hotel). Once away from the hotel, you only hear the waves and birdsong.
I highly recommend the hotel and the resort of Rovinj for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. It probably wouldn't suit clubbers though!
