“New class - Maistra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

This was my second vacation in Rovinj. Two years ago I stayed in hotel Monte Mulini (few steps away from hotels Lone and Eden) so I got to know the city. This time I chose hotel Eden and was wondering what value will I get. After coming to the city everywhere you can see signs with name of the hotels so you can easily find yours. Eden has big parking lot mostly with shadows of the trees. After entering main entrance, hotel portier service help you with your baggage. The first impression is very important - and it really was. Everything was clean, friendly staff with smile and helpful so you immediately feel relaxed. On the left side, there are 4 elevators (2 of them lift to ground floor where there is entrance to the pools and the beach. Corridors on each floor are wide and nicely equipped. You will get two cards for your room which are also needed for turning on the electricity. Rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant so you will feel like at home. There is plenty of space to store your baggage and rooms are nicely furnished. Wi-Fi access (signal is excellent also outside at the pool area), A/C is standard. On the balcony (when you choose superior room) you will see the park, new pools with salt water (more then 1000 m2 !!!) and the sea. Really amazing view, after coming from the dinner nice place to watch the sky, sea and the lights at the pools. So romantic! Cuisine is outstanding: absolutely flawless! Many options for both breakfast and dinner. Food was prepared like from mom (please don't tell it to her :-) so be careful about your weight... Hotels offer of course much more: New spa, big gym (with quality fitness machines!), indoor pool, entertainment hall (in the evening with program for kids), bars etc. Even outside in the evening hotel organizes entertainment program. It's about 5 minutes walking to the old city. You can also rent a bike because there are plenty of bike routes and also many possibilities for boat trips. I can definitely say I love this city. Surroundings of the hotel is quiet, clean and beautiful so, if you wanna get best value for your money choose Maistra hotels. Btw during my stay the hotel was booked out. And what can I say at the end? I have new dilemma - which hotel from maistra to choose next?

Room Tip: Choose superior room for the view on the sea, park and pools

The Eden is a large hotel but manages to still deliver a personal and excellent service. We spent a week there in August and had a great time. There was a heat wave during our stay so it was extremely hot. The air conditioning in the hotel was very good.
The food was excellent with lots of variety every night. Breakfasts were excellent too.
The new swimming pool is the best pool we have ever experienced. A beautiful design and construction. Walks to Rovinj town and the Nature Park are a joy. Hire a cycle and enjoy the ride too if you wish.
We had a couple of problems in the hotel ( not the hotels fault) and these were resolved very promptly. Staff at reception very efficient.
Use the supermarket a few hundred meters from the front entrance of the hotel to save money with drinks.
Enjoy.

Booked this hotel at the last minute based on Trip Advisor reviews. I hate having to fight for sunbeds at the crack of dawn and here you don't have to. Don't get me wrong there is bed saving going on especially around the pool itself and I also saw multiple bed blocking ie. 3 people saving 5 beds, 3 in the shade and 2 in the sun!!! However if you were happy to sit in the gardens which we actually preferred then there always seemed to be beds available. We used to go down about 10 and always got beds where we wanted. There are plenty of trees for shade.
It is a new pool complex this year which is very nice. It's a saltwater pool which was a little chilly when we arrived but by the end of the week it was quite warm. It was quite quiet at the beginning of our stay but the demographic definitely changed at the end of our week when there were far more children and the pool was much busier.
The hotel provide you with a towel card and you exchange this for towels at the pool in the morning. They are ok towels, not huge and a bit crispy but saves on you having to take them with you. You can keep them or like us take them back at the end of the day and get your towel card back and get clean ones the next day. The pool bar provides drinks and an excellent selection of ice creams which were lovely, also a limited selection of rolls.

There is an a la carte restaurant next to the pool, The Oleander Grill, which gets very busy at lunchtimes as it is the closest place for lunch. Although we found if we went before 1.30 you could get a table quite quickly, after this and you had to queue. It serves the usual array of burger, pizzas, sandwiches along with salads, tapas etc. They also do a takeaway service. This is also open in the evening for food and is also where the evening entertainment is held.

There is a smaller eaterie at the hotel called the vitality bar which was much quieter which sold rolls and salads.

We had 2 rooms at the back overlooking the gardens and the road with a balcony. Not that you could see anything apart from the tree tops when you were sat down as the balcony is made of concrete.
The rooms are a little dated but they were clean and they had very comfortable beds. The storage space is very limited, not enough hangers and shelving space.
The air con worked perfectly well, it was very hot at night and it coped fine.
The safe is free to use (big thumbs up for this)
There is a mini bar fridge which we used to put water and a bottle of fizz from the supermarket in.
The bathroom is small but perfectly adequete. The bath is quite deep so if you have mobility problems then ask for a bathroom with a shower cubicle. I always managed to have a hot shower even at peak times (another thumbs up for the hotel).
We had 2 problems with the rooms when we arrived. The boys air con was not working and our wardrobe door had fallen off. The maid saw our problems and had the maintentance man there within 10 minutes and it was all sorted within 30 minutes. Can't ask for more than that.

We were half board. Dinner was from 6.30 and they don't have sittings which is good. You can go anytime and sit anywhere you like. It did make it feel a bit like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant and there was no ambiance at all. The service was good although when they were really busy they couldn't alwasy keep up with drinks orders. This is supposed to be a 4* hotel but the food was not. It was ok, plenty of choice but some more like school dinners. They did have good bits like the salad bar where they made up salads to order and also the occasional good dish which obviously then went very quickly, but the meat in the main was tough and the vegetables not very appetising. 2 soups every night, plenty of salad, cheese, bread etc. The desserts were varied but not my cup of tea and the ice cream was certainly of the cheap variety.
Breakfast was pretty much as standard with the usual EU bacon and sausages. Plenty of bread, cheese, cold meats and salad, cereal, yoghurts. They also had pancakes and waffles although my son said they were very doughy. A triumph at breakfast was the omelette bar where they made omelettes to order. They served coffee at the table and you could make your own tea.
After less than a week we were struggling to look forward to dinner and ate out for 2 nights in town.

The Lobby bar have a Happy Hour between 5 and 6pm on alcholic drinks only, excluding cocktails. They are half price and have to be drunk in the vicinity of the bar or on the terrace.

They also provide wifi which is a bit flakey at times but it's FREE.

The staff were all polite and extremely hard working.

The hotel borders the national park. Go out the back of the hotel past the Oleander Grill and turn left and you are in the national park. You can walk along the coast and a lot of people go here to sunbath so it is very busy. It is a rocky coastline and many wear swim shoes to go in and out of the sea. You just find yourself a spot on the rocks, the grass, under trees or the odd rocky beach. There appear to be some sunbeds for hire although I don't know how much they cost.

If you turn right behind the Oleander instead this is the coastal path into town. It's about 10 minutes to the harbour and another 10 minutes into town. It is a very pleasant walk and doesn't seem too long. The town is lovely, all cobbled streets which can be slippy, lots of little alleyways and shopping opportunites. Plenty of bars and restaurants. If you get to the restaurants by about 7.30 there is no problem getting in after this and you will probably have to queue at the more popular ones. We loved wandering around the town in the evening.

You can hire cycles from the hotel to go into town or around the national park. They hire for 2 or 4 hours or all day. They are very popular and they go quite early in the morning, although better availability on changeover days. There is a hire place just outside the hotel next to the entrance to the national park as well, slightly cheaper but only by 10 Kuna for the whole day so not much in it. We hired them from the hotel and they were very helpful.

Overall we liked the hotel and had a lovely holiday and would go back but unless the food changes I would go out to eat more.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be the same width but some are longer. Rooms over the gardens at the front or the...

This hotel was a great choice! We picked it for the large pool and grounds which looked like there would be a lot of shade. There were lots of loungers set out under the trees in the shade and this was needed because it was very hot (34C-36C). There are quite a few loungers right by the pool, some under parasols and some without, however if you want these you have to go and put your towels out from 8.00am! However, we managed to find four loungers to move together at different times of the day. HAZARD ALERT: in certain areas of the pool there are underwater steps which are difficult to see as they are the same colour as the rest of the pool and are not highlighted. On his first dip in the pool my husband swam up to the side not seeing the steps and grazed his knee quite deeply in several places on a step!!

There is a pool bar which also sells rolls, pots of fruit, and ice creams. Right next to the pool is the Oleander Restaurant which gets very busy at lunchtime, we had to queue for a table. It serves pizza, toasted cheese sandwiches, burgers etc. Food can also be ordered to take-away. TIP: the chairs in the Oleander are very uncomfortable (plastic mesh) which leave lines on you legs so take a towel to sit on! The hotel supplies pool towels which you change each day.

The Vitality Bar was a great place to have a break from the pool as the outside chairs are in the shade and there was a nice breeze.

We had booked two rooms, which we requested to be next door to each other, however they were a couple of rooms apart. This was not a problem, however our room had an internal door which could have made the room next door into an adjoining room and this was not very sound-proof (woken on one morning before 7.00 am by very loud TV). The beds were very comfortable (I usually hate any other bed than my own). We had to request extra pillows and clothes hangers, which were delivered to the room with no problem. The air-conditioning in our room was very good and it was lovely to come back to a cool room, however on the last night it did make some very strange gurgling noises. Our room had a shower cubicle and our daughters' room had a bath with a shower over it which had quite a large side to step over. TIP: if you have mobility difficulties I would request a room with a shower cubicle. There is a small mini-bar (fridge) in the room which we used to cool water bought from the nearby supermarket.

The restaurant was very pleasant and the staff worked very hard to clear plates and get drinks even when it was very busy. There was a very wide choice for breakfast. Omelettes cooked to order, fried/scrambled/boiled eggs, pancetta (bacon), pancakes, croissants, waffles, fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals and lots of different rolls and breads. Coffee brought to the table or lots of different teas to make yourself.

This was the first time we had booked a hotel with a buffet style evening meal so I have nothing to compare it with, however there were a lot of different choices each day. There were usually 2 different soups, lots of salad choices, pasta dishes, pizza, mussels, chicken and meat in sauces, fish, meat and more meat! The vegetables seemed like tinned. Desserts were different cakes, mousses, ice cream and good selection of fresh fruit. I was worried that the food would be piled up and therefore be left out for ages however the dishes of hot food were not very large so were used up quickly and replenished straight away. Everything was hot.

Rovinj is a 15-20 min walk away, it is a bit dark walking along parts of the coastal walkway but there were always others about. Rovinj old town was very busy during the evenings, the restaurants and bars were crowded. The streets are cobbled and very slippery. It was still very hot in the evenings but exploring the streets was very interesting.

We didn't go on any Thomson trips but the rep recommended a visit to Red Island on the ferry (15 mins journey). This is where the Hotel Istra is situated. The boat trip was nice and it was good to visit the island however there is not much to see. There are cafes and a little beach and I would only go to swim.

The hotel hires out bikes but they had all gone just after breakfast so we hired them (cheaper) from just on the coastal walkway just a few steps from the Oleander Bar and near the entrance to the forest park which has a cycle route. Study the map before you set off as it is not a straight forward circle route and there are no other maps on the way. The route goes along the coast and there are some bars and cafes along the way. It was a great way to look at the beaches/swimming areas along the path.

The hotel offers a varied activity programme which my teenage daughters loved. They joined in the Zumba dancing, aqua aerobics and Tai Chi. The instructors were very good and enthusiastic. There are 2 table tennis tables and a club for young children.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel, it was very clean and the staff pleasant, the food was ok but it would not be for gourmet diners!

One thing, on checking out, my husband went to pay for food and drinks we had charged to our room and there was one receipt signed by someone else but charged to our room number. The man at reception did not seem to believe that this could have happened but did in the end agree to deduct the amount. So keep account of what you have!

Room Tip: If you request a room over looking the pool, you cannot really see the pool as it is down a path a l...

I recently stayed in Hotel Eden and it was a pure treat. Beautiful, well maintained hotel, kind staff, speak very well English, very willing to help the customer, beautiful rooms, clean, airconditioning, Wi-fi, beautiful SPA and outdoor swimming pool.. It was Divine, absolutely fabulous. I can recommend this hotel and if I were to go back to Rovinj I would return to this hotel. Even though we checked out in the morning we could still use the swimming pool, towels. The outside swimming pool has a lovely little restaurant and they serve lovely meals for a good price. The breakfast..amazing. There was this Chef which made omelets in front of you, you could chose what you wanted to put in the omelet, there was fresh fruit, fresh baked bread, bacon; nothing was missing, everything one could wish for to have for breakfast was there. This is a very well organized and managed hotel and I would return in a heartbeat.

I stayed at Hotel Eden in May and was not sure what to expect in Croatia. I was very pleasantly surprised firstly with Rovinj and also Hotel Eden. What was noticeable about the hotel was that each member of staff provided a high level of attention to customer service in all areas except perhaps in the indoor swimming pool where when we asked to view it we were told this was not possible as it would disturb the people who were relaxing there so unfortunately we did not get to sample this feature of the hotel. Otherwise the room was clean, roomy and well furnished - improvements would have been a bidet in the toilet and a wardrobe hanging system that was more user friendly. Outdoor pool was great and food, especially the fish was very good with a large choice.
Rovinj is a lovely resort with lots to explore, lots of walks and cycling and really nice old town. the shops are good and there was no pressure from shopkeepers as we saw in Porec - I wouldn't stay there, although close to Rovinj the atmosphere is totally different in Porec - ok for a visit but no more. A visit to Pula is a must to see the fantastic amphitheatre.
Weather was cool while we were there so I suspect that early June would be perfect.
