“Lovely beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

I was lucky enough to stay in one of the renovated apartments, so I can't complain much. The rooms were cozy, with a really nice terrace. Our biggest problem were the ants, which appeared out of nowhere during the night. There didn't seem to be any room service whatsoever. There is also no free Wi-Fi and the prices for using the Internet at the reception were ridiculously high. The beach is amazing, though, and the sunset is breathtaking.

We did not use the bungalows etc, as we had our own touring caravan.

Barrier at entrance where you have to show a pass to ensure security and we did see security men walking around the site so felt very secure.

Large reception where you book in and very helpful informational desk where the lady spoke excellent English and gave advice on best places to visit. There is also a a bureau exchange to changing money into Kunas. We found everything much cheaper than using euros in other countries.

Pitches varied in size, but ours was a good 100m squared, lots had shade by the beautiful olive trees. Some pitches were not divided by anything, but some were by hedges, bay leave bushes or rosemary bushes - giving the site a really authentic feel.

There were 13 toilet blocks, which were quite small. 6 toilets and 4 showers, divided into men and women and 8 sinks for either clothes washing or dishwashing - these did get very busy but were frequently cleaned during the day.

On the sea front, the sea was beautiful, the only problem was the rocks which were everywhere (you need to wear swimming shoes), but once you got deeper it was fine. Lots of fish to look at when snorkelling.

There was a pool with water slide - this was all sea water and was drained every night and refill during the morning. 5pm was aqua exercise, which (and I have done lots in different campsites), was the best I have tried, very enthusiastic instructor!

Trampolines and playground for children's, plus mini club and a club for teenagers. Tennis courts and table tennis.

Evening entertainment, varied from live music to Mr & Mrs Amarin - and yes they did do the bikini round (which just showed how the country differs to the rest of Europe).

The site provide a taxi boat to Rovinj direct from the campsites beach, cost 20 kuna per person, each way, which was about £2.50 each.

Site shop was pretty useless, mainly sweets and silly toys, but there was Lidl around 2km away. Souvenir shop also available.

Wifi and computers were available near reception.

We booked in December 2009 for a stay in August 2010 and even then were a good 10 rows back from the sea. There were pitches available during our stay but possibly only short-term, if you were looking for longer I would recommend booking well in advance.

On the whole, a lovely site. Just a note on the weather, was around 30 degrees during the day, but cooled down lovely in the evening so was not uncomfortable to sleep but on a major plus site no mosquitos!

I stayed with my family ( 2 kids, one 9 years and our second 16 months ) at an AP5 not renovated for 2 weeks. when we arrived at the apt it was a nightmare: totally dirty ( especially the bathroom ) and several things broken like shades in the two bedrooms, sliding doors ... good for us I had my motorcycle tools with me so I started repairing myself. the confirmation we held stated that every 3 days cleaners will come to change towels and clean the apt., once a week bedsheets will be changed. This sounds okay for us, but reality looked totally different. The "Cleaners" showed up on the third day, changed the bedsheets and towels, did not clean the apt and were never seen again in the two weeks..... very poor performance for a hell lot of money. So we took the car to Rovinj , went to a supermarket and started cleaning the place by ourselves..... what a vacation.
Oh I nearly forgot ..... the tiny little "beach" infront of the pool is inaccessible because it's too crowded and the second swimmarea is right where the motorboats leave and anchor, so the water there is shining like a rainbow because of oil and gas :-( :-(

Amarin is ok, definitly not the 4 star it gives itself but has all the requirements you need for a pleasant enough stay. I went with a friend with the hope of exploring some of istria and soaking up the culture so what i would say is that Amarin is set some way from the centre of town. They run a taxi boat service every hour which charges 20 kuna a go so it works out quite expensive if like us you want to be out and about. The resort is known as a tourist settlement which has apartments and a camping site meaning that around 2000 people are staying there in the height of summer...that's a lot of children! hardly any english tourists which was fine for us but as most tourists are German or Italian all the food is catered for them so don't expect to be sampling the delights if istrian cuisine.

We arrived after driving 2 hours from Trieste airport.. we passed massive traffic jams in the opposite direction at the border controls with Slovenia( So make sure you allow plenty of time to return to Trieste airport)..We had booked an A5 apartment ( 2 star) which was unrenovated it was basic and ok but we thought it looked dreary so we asked to upgrade to a B5 ( 4 star) which was lovely.Totally different with air conditioning and a bright interior..and lots of space..
The resort was good , the children loved the water slide and enjoyed the rock pools on the shingle beach ( pack your rock shoes)The view of Rovinj from the beacabout h and pool was beautiful. The resort was quiet during may half-term, and starts to get busy from June onwards.. The restaurant was good but the Pizzeria was really only good for the pizza the pasta was awful..We used to eat at a lovely family restaurant just outside the resort ( view not so good but food was cheaper and service friendly).. restaurant Nada..
There is a water taxi to Rovinj ( 20 kuna each approx £2.50 each way ) or a bus ( 12 kuna each way) if you want to eat out in Rovinj.
Mini supermarket on site was ok for some items but was quite expensive for many things.. better to use the new Plodine supermarket in Rovinj.
The apartments overall were great especially the towels which were large bath sheets and were replaced daily and the apartment was also given a quick sweep and clean daily ,The resort facilities were good but the resort when we stayed was full of German tourists and lots of teenagers on summer camps.., but overall a great base to experience Istria.
