went to porec with portland holidays, stayed at the hotel mediteran 13th to 20th may 2008, very good hotel, lovely well kept gardens surround the hotel and very clean inside.we paid app £34 to upgrade our room to pool and sea view it was well worth it. room a good size and great views.cannot fault the meals! (need to loose a few pounds now!) and wine ,beer with evening meal included in price.some food cooked fresh in front of you! drinks a little pricey in hotel bar and just a band played each evening. only 15 minute walk into pretty porec, which we enjoyed very much, nice cobbled streets etc, lovely walks each direction from the hotel, sea so clean.good restaurant above the diving club for lunch. we took boat trip to venice, well worth it, and it does not smell! about 2 1/2 hour crossing, you need passport and euro,s for there.so much to see! shame weather was cloudy! alot of tourists and expensive , but what a fantastic place. would go back there , also to porec, croatia is a beautiful unspoilt country...lets hope it stays that way!

“nice holiday”

Hotel Mediteran

The hotel was clean and tidy and looked modern, excluding the bathrooms which are in desperate need of a re-vamp. The food was excellent however it was manic in the evenings. The waiters obviously work long hours and very hard however a smile would not have hurt now and again. The drinks in the hotel were expensive especially the soft drinks. approximately £1.70 (170 kunas) for a small coke. To add rum it was just an extra 20p.
We only managed to get a sun lounger around the pool when it was raining as towels had been placed on them by 6am in the morning. Sadly the pool was quite small so no inflatables or balls were allowed in and no drinks were allowed around the pool.
The sea was only a 2 minute walk away and again sun loungers are hard to come by, but if you look hard you may find one. The sea was clean and excellent for snorkelling.
Porec was a busy town with lots to see and tasting the ice cream is a must. The costal path was lovely to walk along and the train is great if you can get on it as it was busy. The resort is ideal for young families and couples of all ages looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday. The majority of holiday makers are not English and conversation with others can be difficult.
The surrounding area is beautiful and the hotel as a whole was really nice and would definitely go back to Croatia again.

Just had a great holiday at the Hotel Mediteran, Porec. We went with Portland Holidays Direct. In our opinion the hotel is far better than the 3-star rating suggests - it is very light and airy with an abundance of public seating areas, an adequate pool area and salt water pools. For anyone preferring the sea it is only a few minutes walk to several paved bathing areas and a small shingle beach, but care must be taken as entry points to the sea are quite slippery in places and the sea bed is rocky. Lots of water sports and children's playgrounds are available all the way from the hotel, via the coastal path, to the town of Porec and in the other direction towards Zelena Laguna. The coastal path is quite well lit at night and we felt no threat walking home from the town at midnight. There is a fairly frequent tractor train service available for about 15 kuna. Porec city itself is very attractive and welcoming with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants - most of which are reasonably priced - ice cream parlours providing inexpensive and tasty Albanian ice cream.

The hotel has good quality entertainment at night and many daytime activities should you require them. Accommodation is roomy and very clean and the food extremely good with a wide variety of choice for anyone. The staff could not do enough for you and speak many languages adequately - you only have to ask if you have any problems. We mentioned that one or two of the lights on the coastal path were not working and this was remedied by the next morning.

We were so impressed by the hotel and resort that we will deinitely being returning in the very near future.

“short stay”

Hotel Mediteran

Porec pronounced Poresh,
As previous trip advisors say it is an above average hotel, food plentiful in a buffet style restaraunt which is clean but showing its age. We stayed three nights as part of a package with a well known British travel company. The rooms vary in size. Ours was at the front and although clean and modern had permanently closed louvres on the outside of the window and heavy curtains so the room was a little darkish. We did have a mini balcony with access door. Generally it was OK. Our friends across the channel always get up early to grab the sunloungers by the pool as usual. The beaches are non existent and are very rocky indeed, this time of year the grass around the sea areas is non existent due to the scorching heat. Generally speaking a good hotel for a short stay, finding new things to do every day can be limited or very expensive. Photos in previous comments are a true reflection around May to June time.

We took our meals here H/B whilst renting a self-catering 4* appartment, which I have written a separate review about. The hotel lobby area is big and multi level. the reception staff are helpful - it's like a busy street. Plenty of organised activities for the guests, young and old. They call it "animation"! Music in the evening, a bit old-fashioned, the Germans like to do proper quick-step, rumba and all that. Bring your cash, if you are not resident within the hotel itself, but dining there like we were - they have no flexibility over charging drinks at the bar to your room. The whole area is run by one company, but no systems in place other than offering H/B in your price. Visa is NOT widely accepted in this area and there is one cash machine at the bottom of the hill. If that breaks down, (like it did for a day with us) you have a long walk ahead. Sports facilities were NOT included in the price, and I found the guys at the sport kiosk bordering on the rude.
Anyway foodwise: For the English palette I would say families will not be disappointed, but the scurrying around of evreyone in high season would mean that you would have to watch the kids don't get knocked over! We laughed and compared it to have your meals every day in the middle of Oxford Street ! Everyone was milling around all the food servery areas in all directions, and queuing for the frying pan chef in the mornings. There are a number of meat, dessert, cold food, hot food areas, and you've got hand it to the Croatians they like to mix and match and feed the tourist ranks with a certain joyless resignation and efficiency. I didn't meet one Croatian who seemed to enjoy their job. There are flowing drinks machines, wine, beer, cola ( very good, like the Real thing!) You are seated promptly, if a little authoritatively - felt a bit like a structured cattle market overall! The staff were churning out the hot food like anything, emphasis in the management was on not running out of anything and replenishing the vast trays of food.
First morning the pan chef was frying what looked like a ton of mushrooms on a 4ft pan, second morning fried eggs, for 2 hours with a constant stream of takers - then right after you've loaded your plate with the fruits of his labour you have white and sparkling wine on your left in coolers, a type of champangne AND for breakfast! Be careful or you will go to the beach feeling worse for wear by 10am! There is a dizzy mix of continental meats, cheeses, and olives, next door is fruit , with the butter and marg, then cereals, yogurt, 15 baskets of bread, croissants, crackers. Then there's greasy scrambled eggs and tiny squares of thick cooked fatty bacon, rather thicker than what we would dress a salad with and tough in the mouth. Tea and coffee machines are close but at the other end. But it fills you up. The decor is very dated 70's, and not exactly relaxing if you get my drift! Lots of busy "clearer-uppers"
Dinner again some more frantic dining. Food here I see has been popular with Trip Advisors, and I will say there is something for everyone and no-one will leave hungry! Croatian food is a fusion of South German/ Italian/ English/Russian. Check out the meat counter carefully and do ask what's what. They usually have two men there to deal with queries! What looks like chicken can be fish, and what looked like pork was rabbit, along with the real things, and beef braised. They have liver and onions! Drinks are flowing again in the eveningand the kids just loved the never ending stream of available coke, and for the adults wine and beer ( and it's not bad at all!) There's ice cream and desserts I found very sweet, and bit "plastic" cream-ish. Personally, after 4 days, eating there was too much of a manic affair overall, and with a tiny bit of people regimentation from the staff, the place would do justice to any army camp. I simply could not stand this for a week, or even longer, but that's me. At least I didn't have to cook, and wash-up.....
