“Nice Quiet Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We stayed at the Laguna Mediteran in Porec back in early August. It’s a large 3 star hotel located a short walk from the Adriatic Sea and a 20 minute stroll from nearby Porec. The hotel has good facilities and is kept very clean by an army of cleaners who seem to work night & day. We found most of the staff to be friendly, helpful & pleasant. The hotel has a little shop which sells souvenirs, snacks & toiletries which is useful if you forget something.

The rooms at the back of the hotel generally overlook the pool, sea or forest & have balconies. The rooms at the front don’t tend to have balconies, but do have the fixed shutters mentioned in other reviews. Our room was small, but ok for what we needed. It was modern & well furnished. We luckily got a balcony room at the back of the hotel which had lovely views of the pool & sea. We were treated to some lovely sunsets! One thing to be aware of is that the evening entertainment is poolside and therefore the music may disturb you so if you are a light sleeper, you may prefer a room at the front of the hotel.

There was a good variety of food on offer in the restaurant which was mostly European style. The food was cooked to a high standard and there was usually a choice of several dishes each evening. Make sure you walk around the restaurant as there are around 4 serving stations which sometimes serve different food. The restaurant is large and gets very busy serving a lot of people in a short space of time; however we did not ever have a problem finding a table. There are free drinks “on tap”, but we found these to be very watery and often ran out quickly. Also, we sometimes found the cutlery & plates to be a bit grubby which is surprising given how clean the rest of the hotel is.

In our opinion the pool at the rear of the hotel was a little too small to cope with the number of people in the hotel. Poolside got very busy with a lack of sunbeds & umbrellas. There is no poolside bar, so if you want a drink or snacks you have to walk back to the main hotel. The pool area was a little overcrowded & lacked atmosphere for our liking.

We found evenings at the Mediteran a little quiet. The bar service was a little slow and they insist you sit at tables which makes it worse. The evening entertainment was a bit of a let-down so we ended up strolling to the Valamar Hotels next door (Diamant & Crystal) whose entertainment was much better. (Especially the children’s entertainment).

There’s plenty to do in the local area. In nearby Brulo (5 mins from back of hotel) there are many activities such as trampolines, crazy golf, cycle hire, go karts etc. Along the entire coast there are areas to swim, sunbathe, take out a pedalo or play on inflatables in the sea. In nearby Zelena Laguna there’s a watersports centre which you can easily access if you take the little coastal train.

The town of Porec is a 20 min stroll along a coastal path. As an alternate, you can take the little train which you can pick up in front of the hotel and which drops you near the harbour in Porec. The town is a little quiet but worth a visit for its lovely harbour, souvenir shops & restaurants. From the harbour there are many boat trips available to Venice or to nearby islands, but anything further is a coach or car trip away. Rovinj is worth a visit by boat, it has lovely narrow streets and a busy market, but watch the cobbled streets as they are very slippery.

This hotel & area is perfect if you like a nice quiet relaxing holiday.

“Thoroughly enjoyed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We stayed here the first week of October. Really nice hotel. Our room, though perhaps a little small, was perfectly adequate and comfortable. Had a pool and sea view, which was nice.
We were half board, so had the benefits of free wine and beer with dinner, and it was help yourself! Such a good idea! Buffet service, with a wide choice of meat, pasta, salad, veg, potatoes etc plus desserts, plenty to choose from. Breakfast was a good selection, but got a bit 'samey' by the end of the week.
Lovely walk into Porec town, takes about 20 mins. Some nice, cheap restaurants there, especially the Corso in the old town - great food, service and price!
The little tourist train is good, goes to town and to Zelena Laguna in the other direction, which has a nice lake and stony beach further round, but you can also walk it.
Salt water pool, but it was heated slightly, which made getting into it easier! Plenty of sun beds, even though there were lots of Germans there!
No sandy beaches here though, but we weren't worried about that.
All in all, good value for money, and in a lovely part of Croatia. Visited Venice, even though it took 2.5 hours each way - well worth it.
We will certainly return another time.

“Not bad at all, quite good, actually, but still needs improvements...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

First - the best.
Kitchen: offers a large variety of good food in a large self-service restaurant for hundreds of customers. Nice looking, good tasting, fresh, changing daily. Super good fish! Fruits, vegetables, ice creams, complementary local wines, beer and other beverages. - It can not be compared to the best a'la carté places of Poreč city but taking account the quantities of food and guests and limited budget: very recommendable. Sparkling wine at breakfast table starts every sunny (and rainy) day of your holiday.

Guests: elderly Germans 40%; Russians 30% and 30% mixed everybody else. Very few young people and children.

Location: Very good. Walking distance to Poreč city. Tourist train regular transfer from door to Poreč harbor and back is also available.

Staff: very nice and friendly; restaurant staff (male) wears ugly, oversized, old-fashioned uniform that makes them look clumsy... cute young guys, do they really have to wear such potato sacks!!!

Pools: clean and nice but very crowded; some people leave their towels overnight and, thus, "book" their sun beds for the whole week. - Not very friendly!

Beach: hotel does not have its own beach area nor free sun beds at the sea. Hotel even does not provide towels for beach or pool area. - Be equipped, beach area is very stony! It is possible to use ladders or stairs to get into water even without special shoes. Brilliant clear water.

Hotel Wi-Fi is overpriced, obviously considered as a "luxury service" available in lobby only at unreasonably high price. Hotel administration still can not understand that free Internet could keep many people sitting and drinking in the hotel bar instead of walking to Poreč and leaving their money in city bars where free WiFi for the guests is essential like everywhere in developed world.

Rooms: most of rooms seem to have a balcony but not all; and sea view is a rare exception. I had booked a room with a balcony and sea view but I got one wihout any view at all - like a prison cell. (I have uploaded some photos from out- and inside.) - So, when booking a room, be sure what you pay for and what you get for your money. - I cannot blame hotel for cheating as my booking was arranged by a travel agency. Aurinko.ee klienditeenindus on lihtsalt süüdimatu pask!

Bathrooms are modern and practical; efficient showers, large mirror, good lighting, wall-mounted hair dryer. Daily change of towels. Perfect!

Animation: the best ever - NO ANIMATION; no disturbing music at pools. Some international music and shows after dinner, performed with good taste and on good level.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms of the hotel are good and light, I should especially recommend sea-side, which is...

“Exceeded expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We stayed for a week in early August 12.
We generally prefer small hotels or self catering (not because we cook but because we prefer the variety of eating out) so would not generally go for a hotel like this (300+ rooms large self service dining halls, half board) but we were very pleasantly surprised!
The room was comfortable and we had a fantastic view looking out over pool towards sea an island on the first floor. The hotel spotless, the public areas, bright and furnished in a modern clean style.
The staff do not go out of thier way to engage with guests, and can come across as a bit reserved, but are very pleasant once you get to know them. If I was being picky the service from the bar area was painfully slow and they insisted on table service (although on a couple of occasions I got fed up and collected our drink from the bar myself)
The food was very good considering it was on a mass-produced buffet style. We always found something we like and the quality was as good as meals we paid for in Porec. Beer at wine was included, which was a nice touch.
Travel tips, Porec is well worth a visit in the evening, make sure you get the water taxi back! - Great fun for 2Kuna, we also went to Lake Bled - Amazing- Highly recommended and Venice, wonderful although a little rushed, and finally Rovinj a short boat trip away and beautiful.
The area was beautiful, with pine trees al the way down to the waters a=edge and loads of activities for kids of all ages. Prices seemed very reasonable. (cheap by UK standards) and everything is so well cared for!
7 days was not enough and we will definitely return! It exceeded our expectations in almost every respect.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view
