My wife and I have just returned from Porec and the hotel Fortuna. We had read the reviews before we set off and were looking forward to a well earned break. We were not disappointed, with most of the trip. The Hotel has, inevitably, over the years become a little tired. It needs a lick of paint. The rooms are adequate. We had a rear facing room and it looked directly into the pine forest. Some of our fellow guests, as we have seen in previous reviews, complained about the noise from the mainland into the wee small hours. They seem to forget that other people are on holiday also!
We were bitterley disappointed that the promised air conditioning was not installed. The temperature whilst we were there rarely dropped below 33 degrees (46 on 2 days!) and A/C was needed.
The main town gets busy from the beginning of July.
The area has a lot to offer. A visit to Lake Bled in Slovenia, whilst it is a long day, is a visit to a most beautiful part of the world.
Avoid the temptation to visit Venice for the day in high season. Save up and go for a week in spring.
The staff were exceptionally pleasant, the evening entertainment, bland. You pay a little more for your drinks in the hotel bar and the lights go out spot on midnight and the staff disappear. Perhaps the hotel may think about opening a while longer considering that the last boat back is 12 midnight.
Whilst this review may seem somewhat negative it is intended to point out what the hotel needs. Our overall view of the hotel was very positive and good, I would urge you not hesitate to book the Fortuna.
