We stayed at this hotel for 14 nights (09/09/08 - 23/09/08). We booked with Thomson and really enjoyed our time here.
The hotel room was standard, we had a lovely sea view from the third floor but no balcony (room 323). The rooms were cleaned daily.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke good English.
Breakfast was excellent - buffet style and there was everything you could wish for including a cooked breakfast, croisants with marmalade and jams, chocolate pancakes, yoghurt, fruit, cheese and cold meats and omlette.
The evening meal was also buffet style with many different dishes. On Wednesdays they severed traditional Istrian dishes and fish was served on Fridays. More nights they had a roast.
The location of the hotel was central. 5 minute walk to the bus station and boat excursions to Venice, Rovinj and Vsar right on the front outside the hotel. The shops are just behind the hotel and the Bastilica of Euphrasius is just 5 minutes away.
The Island Of Sveti Nikola is a 2 minute boat ride away. Excellent place to spend a day, sun bathing, swimming in the Adriatic sea and exploring the grounds. Hotel Fortuna and Hotel Isabella are also situated on this island.
Rovinj is about 1 hour away on the bus and cost approx 72 kn return for 2 people. Vsar is about 30 minutes away by bus and cost 44 kn for 2 people return. We also took a 1 hour tour on the Glass Bottom Boat which cost 65 Kn per person.
Between 09/08 and 13/09 we were treated to the History Festival which has been a tradition for several hundred years. People dress up in period costume and do shows during the days & evenings.
As we booked with Thomson, numerous trips were available and we booked two. One to Lake Bled in Solvenia and the other to The Postojnska Caves, also in Solvenia. We enjoyed both very much and it gave us a chance to see another country.
Prices vary depending on where you eat/drink. At the Hotel Neptun a Coca Cola cost 19 kn, 0,2cl wine 28 kn, small beer (approx 1/2 pt) 15kn and a small cappucino 9kn (prices approximate).
There is a vast choice of restaurants around Porec and they specialise in fish and sponge cakes! The cakes are delicious - you must try them!
Very picturesque place and well worth a visit.
However, we believe that the hotel is going to be renovated later this year and so things maybe different for people visiting the Hotel Neptun next year.
