“Great value holiday”

Hotel Neptun

Save Review

North-East England
Aug 26, 2008

We spent a fortnight at the Hotel Neptun, and had a great time. Other reviews have already covered the downsides - the lack of air-con is a problem and the noise from the bin collection (we had a rear room) was a bit of a nuisance, but to be fair for the price we paid these were minor inconveniences.

The plus points far outweigh the negatives. The staff at the hotel are excellent, the friendliest I've ever dealt with without them being over the top. Food was excellent, with a vast choice at both breakfast and dinner. The lobby bar was good value too, and had a wide range of drinks available.

Transfers to the hotel were a little slow - we traveled with Balkan Holidays and their coach transfer too ages, as it stopped at about six other resorts before setting off for the airport. Also, Pula airport is very small and as we arrived at the same time as check in for two flights to Russia, the check-in hall was crammed full.

Porec itself is a lovely town, the old town was great for exploring after dinner in the evening. Rather a lot of tacky shops in between the good ones unfortunately, and a little too 'in your face' from the shop assistants were the only downsides. There were lots of events on in the square when we went, so always something to watch.

During the day, we spent most of our time on St Nikolas Island. The free boat - Riviera - goes from the jetty about 200m from the hotel. Aim for the 9.45am boat if you can, as the 10.30am one gets quite busy. Sunbed hire is a bargain at about £2 a day, but the chap who provides them can be hard to track down! The headland to the left as you get off the boat was south facing for the sun but got a lovely breeze. If it does get too hot you can move under the trees nearby. Food is available from the little cafe area, but is limited in scope and you might prefer to bring sandwiches (Go to the supermarket near the Casino Hotel).

When getting off the boat going back to the hotel, stop at the icecream stand on the corner near the fishing boats - the icecream is fantastic and you can get a single scoop cone for about 50p!

All in all, a brilliant value holiday - loved it!

Stayed at Hotel Neptun for 4 nights in August.

Agree with other reviews that the location is excellent.

The things that we didn't particularly like about this hotel were:

- No air conditioning. Ordinarily I HATE it when people whinge about their being no air con in their reviews as I think well you shouldn't have booked that hotel then! But the reason that we found this a negative is that the hotel makes you pay for each night that you use a hotel fan! We found this ludicrous since yes, they do not have air con but mainly because it's impossible to sleep with your windows/doors open at night due to the loud nightclub music that thumps till 5am in the summertime just down the promenade from the hotel. It is so loud. Try sleeping in 30 degree heat with no doors open and no air con! It's impossible. So we found it a bit harsh that they make you pay for a crappy pedestal fan.

- The breakfast is probably the worst breakfast I had in a hotel throughtout our 6 week European trip. We just did not rate it at all.

“good value”

Hotel Neptun

Aug 19, 2008

This was our second visit to the Hotel Neptun and although ready for a refurb it is still excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful and the Thomson rep is superb, always around at the stated times if needed.
Do be aware of room 213 as it is not big enough for a couple and overlooks the bins and some dubious accommodation. We would advise anyone to pay extra and have a sea view which makes your holiday.
Food at this hotel is second to none and there is a buffet every night groaning with delightful European fresh food. I did hear a young English couple say there was nothing they liked and would be going out later for pizza and chips !!!!!!!!! There is always fish and meat and an excellent choice for veggies.
Price point for flight and hotel with sea view and balcony and half board was £430 approx---excellent

“A little gem of a find.”

Hotel Neptun

Aug 6, 2008

Firstly, the location of the hotel Neptun is fantastic. The hotel is situated right in the centre of the harbour with beautiful sights of the adriatic ocean and docking yachts. This makes an excellent location for trips as if you do a trip such as Venice, Brijuni island or Rovinj the boats dock right outside the hotel...perfect.

Behind the hotel is the hustle and bustle of medieval allyways with shops and restaurants, definitely the best of both worlds with this hotel. With this hotel comes a free boat ticket to the island of St nikolas to the Neptun's sister hotel Fortuna. This is great for using the hotels blue flag beach and entertainment of the hotel. The beaches are very rocky so bear that in mind. you can buy beach pumps when you are there to protect your feet.

All I can say is that the staff at this hotel can not do enough to help you. From the reception staff to the waitreses in the restaurant. The food was lovely with a wide variation nightly. I even had to go to hospital and the hotel went out of their way to help and get me free medical attention. I checked out that very morning but they allowed me to stay in the room all day with no extra charge.

Porec is a real little find and not a lot of the English have got on to it. There are many trips to do such as venice which you can book whilst you are there for about £45.00pp or book before you go. If you go with Venizialines (booked through Thomson or book whilst in porec) you can get a gondola trip for 24 euros pp you can potentially pay 80euros - so value for money.

A must is a trip to Rovinj which is beautiful which can be done for around £18.00. This lasts from 10am - 6pm and includes a fish BBQ on the boat and and also stops at Vsar. A wonderful trip...again straight infront of the hotel on the Marco Polo.

We had a lovely time and would definitely stay there again, there is no air conditioning in the rooms but you can ask for a fan and they will oblige. You will not be disappointed to stay here.

“Perfect Location”

Hotel Neptun

Went to Pocec in July 2008, stayed at Hotel Neptune, the location was perfect, looking at the Island of Saint Nicholas, which is a sister Hotel to Neptune,in the middle of the old town with it's quaint street's.
The food is of a good quality and varied, staff very polite and helpful, the only downside is that there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms, which made it a little uncomfortable at night.
Would go back to this hotel if returning to Porec.
