“A little gem of a find.”

Hotel Neptun

Aug 6, 2008

Firstly, the location of the hotel Neptun is fantastic. The hotel is situated right in the centre of the harbour with beautiful sights of the adriatic ocean and docking yachts. This makes an excellent location for trips as if you do a trip such as Venice, Brijuni island or Rovinj the boats dock right outside the hotel...perfect.

Behind the hotel is the hustle and bustle of medieval allyways with shops and restaurants, definitely the best of both worlds with this hotel. With this hotel comes a free boat ticket to the island of St nikolas to the Neptun's sister hotel Fortuna. This is great for using the hotels blue flag beach and entertainment of the hotel. The beaches are very rocky so bear that in mind. you can buy beach pumps when you are there to protect your feet.

All I can say is that the staff at this hotel can not do enough to help you. From the reception staff to the waitreses in the restaurant. The food was lovely with a wide variation nightly. I even had to go to hospital and the hotel went out of their way to help and get me free medical attention. I checked out that very morning but they allowed me to stay in the room all day with no extra charge.

Porec is a real little find and not a lot of the English have got on to it. There are many trips to do such as venice which you can book whilst you are there for about £45.00pp or book before you go. If you go with Venizialines (booked through Thomson or book whilst in porec) you can get a gondola trip for 24 euros pp you can potentially pay 80euros - so value for money.

A must is a trip to Rovinj which is beautiful which can be done for around £18.00. This lasts from 10am - 6pm and includes a fish BBQ on the boat and and also stops at Vsar. A wonderful trip...again straight infront of the hotel on the Marco Polo.

We had a lovely time and would definitely stay there again, there is no air conditioning in the rooms but you can ask for a fan and they will oblige. You will not be disappointed to stay here.

“Perfect Location”

Hotel Neptun

Went to Pocec in July 2008, stayed at Hotel Neptune, the location was perfect, looking at the Island of Saint Nicholas, which is a sister Hotel to Neptune,in the middle of the old town with it's quaint street's.
The food is of a good quality and varied, staff very polite and helpful, the only downside is that there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms, which made it a little uncomfortable at night.
Would go back to this hotel if returning to Porec.

“Great location”

Hotel Neptun

Jul 31, 2008

The Hotel Neptun's best quality is its fantastic location, right on the harbour and in easy reach of eateries, bars and a short walk to coves for swimming and snorkelling. You also get free boat rides over to the island opposite for more secluded bathing spots. Beware there are quite a lot of nudists in this area of the coast. The most disappointing part of the hotel is it is noisy if you have a room with a sea view. The bar up the road plays thudding dance music until about 2am every night. Also without air conditioning the rooms can get stuffy at night time. Breakfast at the hotel was satisfactory, offering a large range of different types of food. We went half board but only ate at the hotel twice. Again there was a lot of choice, being buffet style, but we found the standard medicore and preffered to eat elsewhere. Overall a pleasant hotel, very clean and in a great location.

The down side first. Cannot get direct to hotel via a coach..Coaches have to stop at the towns coach station. Then people have to be transfered into small taxis with cases etc..This takes time ( Its hot etc..)

The noise from the dust carts at 5.00am every morning is a pain you sit & wait for it to start. Then with no air con the rooms are very hot.

Now the good side..Which out ways the bad..Staff very good. Food at both breakfast & evening meals great.. good selections
The hotel is right in the centre of the harbour & easy to walk to all parts of the town..some great eating places.

I was suprised by how clean & smart every were was..Far better than the UK !!!. Strange I think...

“lives uo to its great reviews”

Hotel Neptun

This 3 star Istrian Hotel lives up to its previous reviews as excellent. The Neptun hotel is now part of a small hotel chain and is right on the quayside in the town centre, so you are going to get some noise whether you are at the front or rear of the hotel.
If you are at the back on floors 1 to 4 then you get the binmen in the narrow street every morning at 5am. If you are at the front then your are paying for a sea view but you will get noise from the late night cafes and bars, although this is not excessive by any means.
The hotel rooms are going to be extensively refurbished at the end of 2008 and this will include double glazing, new shutters and air conditioning in the bedrooms for the first time. No building work is allowed anywhere in the town during the summer period.
I complained about the binmen noise and was lucky to get a move to a newly completed show room at the back. The new style room and bathroom was fabulous. The new double glazing and shutters meant that I did not hear the binmen from then on.
Food both breakfast and dinner is buffet style. There is a large choice to suit all tastes. Us Brits can have a full english breakfast if we wish and the service and smiles from the staff is probably the best I have ever seen. We are talking genuine smiles and service without servility.
You can have steak, roast pork, pizza, pasta, fresh mussels or literally whatever you like for dinner. The only meat I saw little of anywhere was chicken.
Prices are creeping up in Croatia as they get ready for the euro in 2010/11 so for value you need to shop around. Most of the outdoor restaurants along the quayside and in the back streets are italian based and their menus are pretty identical. You can only eat so much pasta and pizza and the quality varies. A seafood platter for 2 will cost between £14 and £20 and again quality and quantity will vary. I wonder where al those mussels go that are not in their shells on the plate when served?.
The hotel Neptun can not be beaten if you are on the half board deal. If you want a packed lunch the following day instead of the evening meal, you just ask at reception and pick it up at breakfast next morning.
My first visit to Croatia and Porec in particular. If you want a beach then go to the sister hotel (Fortuna) on the St Nicholas Island, 500 yards away. The boat is free to Hotel Neptun guests. If you want character and like the evening walks along the quayside then go to the Neptun. Spotlessly clean everywhere. What impressed me most? without a doubt.... the staff...... low pay, hard working but allways smiling. P.S. They love the Brits in Croatia, so lets keep the yobs out!
