We have just come back from a weeks holiday in Porec where we stayed at the Neptun. I think the first thing that struck me about the whole place, including the hotel, was the cleanliness of everywhere. Didn't even see a sweet wrapper on the ground! It was just immaculate. Our rooms were small and basic but again, very clean. The sheets were pristine and the beds very comfortable. The cleaners were very friendly and we had clean sheets and towels every day. Watch the shower though, you could get scarred for life - it's so ferocious! I had it sussed by the end of the week - you only need to turn it to half it's power otherwise you will get blasted against the shower cubicle and not be able to move! Staff there very friendly and the meals were fairly good although lots of strange stuff. I'm not a fussy eater but some nights, I would have died for just chips and a pizza. Only saw chips one night and mash on another night. Still, on the whole a fairly good choice.
Do the walk through the wooded area along the coast where a lot of the hotels are. It was my favourite day. You can walk for about 10 miles in all I think and it was beautiful. You can catch a ferry back which calls in at points along the way every half an hour so you can walk as far or as short a distance as you fancy. Cycle hire there which would be fun too as it's all fairly flat.
Went to Venice for the day from Porec. Really enjoyed it - we waited until we got to Porec before booking this trip to check the weather was going to be okay on the day we went. A really worthwhile visit. Wouldn't want to stay in Venice but pleased I've been there and seen it. The trip cost about £50 each. TAKE NOTE - we took a few Euros with us as we knew we wanted to visit Venice. However, on the boat, you could book a trip on a gondola, a trip on a water taxi and a meal off St Mark's Square. It all cost about £50 each and we thought we're only going there the once, so we'll book it all. BUT we couldn't pay by credit card - had to be cash (either Kuna or Euros). As we didn't take many Kunas with us, we had to pay by Euros which took all of our money and when we got to Venice we didn't even have enough money to buy a drink although we did take one with us. They didn't tell us about this when we booked the trip. Also, if you book the meal (and I wouldn't advise it) take your own drink - it costs and arm and a leg to get a drink in this restaurant. The whole meal was a bit of a rip off and I wouldn't advise booking it at all. Waste of money. Apart from that, the gondola trip and water taxi were good.
Despite what you read THERE ARE NO BEACHES IN POREC. We knew that before we went so we weren't disappointed.
Went to Pula one day on the bus - Trip from hell - nothing there. Waste of a day!
Done a boat trip to Rovinj. Loved Rovinj! Very quaint and lots of shops sellling unusual things. Bought most of our gifts there as Porec shops all seem to sell the same things - jewellery, t-shirts and bags!
We did the trip in May and it was very quiet there which is what we wanted. I believe June, July and August are the busy months. Weather wasn't great towards the end of our week, they seem to get a lot of rain there. However, enjoyed our trip loads and would go again but not probably for a couple of years.
