My husband and I had the amazing opportunity to visit this national park in Sept. 2008. We had heard of it through other travelers Since we are big fans of the national parks here in the U.S.A. we planned to and visited many parks abroad. This was our favorite. I think most people go just for a few hours and then move on to the coast or into Zagreb but we stayed three days and felt it was well worth the time. This park is very popular and we recommend going in as early as possible to beat the crowds. We were there on a slow day of 15,000 people!! But, since we had an early start it was not too bad. (plus we would hike the more remote trails during the peak hours). We bought picnic lunches at the little stands (run buy local women with their own cheeses or strudel YUM!). These stands were located at the different entrances and then we ate as we hiked. A best day was hiking the BEAUTIFUL Beech forest. The trail head is on the other side of the road from the lakes behind the visitor center. We were the only people there and hiked up to views of the park , local villages in Croatia and Bosnia. Wonderful. We stayed at a sobe called San Koran in Etno Village, about 2 miles from the park. We have written a review for it in Trip Advisor and we highly recommend it. But, if you want a quick link to it here is their website www.sankorana.com. We hope this info. is helpful. We hope that you have the opportunity to some day visit and enjoy the friendliness and hospitality of the Croatian people and the beautiful waterfalls, lakes & forests of Plitvice National Park!!
