“Adequate for an overnight”

Signal Mountain

My wife and I stayed just one night here and found the location to be much further away than anticipated. It is a good 15 miles north of Plitvice and we saw many other possibilities that would have been much closer. The hotel itself was spartan with only necessary furniture but with plenty of room. The included breakfast was more than adequate. We stayed in the rear hotel apart from the restaurant building due to their recommendation that these were "the nicer rooms." The rooms seemed to be susceptible to noise but truthfully we were not bothered as we got up early and the hotel was sparsely rented out. It seemed as if the hotel was suited for multiple children families as they had a pool and some animal rides on site.
Plitvice was worth the drive. Go early in the morning so you can have the waterfalls, pools, and trails to yourself. Bring walking shoes and a coat for this time of year.

“ok accom, clean, good base for lakes”

TC Marko

Sep 29, 2008

we did have a small problem, but was sorted. We where put in the rooms about the restaurant, which are quite grotty and noisy, but were moved to the hotel up the hill a bit. These were small, but adequate and comfy, plenty of HOT water, comfortable bed and clean. The restaurant is excellent and great value, don't bother with starters, as portions are very large.

A good base for the lakes, which are a must see, but don't bother with the caves, not worth the money

“Good price but bad smell!”

TC Marko

Sep 25, 2008

We stayed here for one night after walking around Plitvice. The place is eay to find, just a few miles up the road from the main entrance to the lakes. At around £30 a night it was a good no-frills option for a one night stay.
The room was small and clean, but there was a constant nasty blocked-drain smell from the ensuite bathroom. Judging by the other recent review, it's not just a problem in the room we stayed in.
There is a bar/restaurant onsite. We ate dinner and breakfast here- it's fine if you're not vegetarian and enjoy eating while everyone else smokes!
I would probably stay here again for a night if I knew the drainage had been sorted out, mainly just for the bargain price.

“A decent place with a few minor problems”

TC Marko

Sep 15, 2008

The good:
The TC Marko is in a great location, near the lakes. It is easy to find, right on the highway. The food isn't bad, and the rates (both for the room and the meals) were decent. We had a triple room which was a good size - though not huge - for the three of us. We stayed in room 14 in the new building, up the hill from the restaurant and original building. We had a view of the pool. Sitting poolside after dinner was a highlight of the time in this area (well, outside of the lakes themselves!). The staff was all very accommodating.

The bad:
The shower wouldn't drain, so we stood in shower water up to our ankles. The single bed was terribly uncomfortable. The noise from the highway was a little loud at night, with the window open for respite from the heat. The breakfast (cold cuts and cheese) was a little lacking.

The UGLY:
The smell of raw sewage coming up in the bathroom. This drove me absolutely crazy. My husband and our friend couldn't smell it until the second day, but I found it unbearable from the minute we walked in.

Overall, one of the nicer places in the area and in spite of the problems I would recommend it (and probably even stay there again myself).

“Solid Pension, food mixed experiences”

Heidelberg, Germany

Stayed there a couple of times. Rooms are simple pension rooms, cleaniness is about ok, SAT-TV is available mostly German channels - picture quality could be improved - in our room most channels came with a disturbed picture.
The place also has a restaurant where breakfast is served. Continental style breakfast is filling and consists of bread, jam, sausages and cheese, sort an artifical orange juice and a wonderful coffee.
The major plus: the pension has a nice pool open in summer and also free car parking. Without a car you may be better staying closer to the National park as public transport seems to be very limited. By car it's about 10 mins to the north entrance of the park. About the same it's to city of Slunj northbound, where you find a cash dispenser, restaurants, shops etc. Rastoke with small waterfalls in a small canyon is also worth a short visit.
Another downside is noise coming the road outside - with closed windows not a problem, but in summer you may want to open the windows.
Price is reasonable: 42 Euros incl. breakfast. Half-litre Beer is less than 2 Euros, coffee is 1 Euro.

Meals in the restaurant are reasonable priced, however they charge you extra for side dishes.
Food quality seemed to have deteriorated since our last stay two years ago. We had a really bad meat meal - my worst restaurant experience for years. If you stick to the pizza you shouldn't be wrong, with meat dishes you may have to be a little careful. If you're going somewhere else there a lots of other places along the road.
