I can't help but think some of the reviews on this site are a little harsh. In my experience, this type of large 'National Park' hotel is generally poor in most parts of the world.

The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, the restaurant is mass catered for but the food is O.K and the service levels are low.

However, the location is perfect and surely you stay here for the outdoors not the indoors?

One tip, ask for a room with a balcony and parkview. Sitting here whilst watching the sunset over the trees is great. The 'other side of the corridor' has no sun and a view over the carpark!

I agree with other reviewers who feel this is a "3" star hotel not a "4". Our room was mid-sized with a balcony overlooking the trees of the park. Beds were comfortable and there was no need for a/c as the nights were refreshingly cool. Bathroom was a bit odd. Shower had only half a door and I proceeded to flood the floor on day one. Fortunately there was a drain on the floor. The bathroom was small and of course made smaller by the addition of a bidet. On day 2 I figured out how to keep flooding under a bit more control. The staff at this hotel are downright RUDE, especially in the bar area. Breakfast was ok but again staff would rather snarl at you than serve you. In all it was ok and the Lakes and waterfalls magnificent. We were there with a "bus tour" of 40 people and are not aware of the price paid for the room, but at whatever price paid the staff needs to learn people skills.

“Hideous building!”

Hotel Jezero

Apr 18, 2007

Despite the enormous uninspiring modern exterior the hotel is quite comfortable. I had a double room with bathtub and a little terrace from which I could see tree covered hills. It had a slighly uninspiring decor but the bathroom was well appointed with a large marble sink surround. I stayed in May and thought my trip to the lakes was the highlight of my visit to Croatia. It's amazingly peaceful and the colours of the lakes and the waterfalls are just fantastic. It's a 5 minute walk to the entrance to the park which is convenient. The hotel is enormous though and the dining room was like a big sports hall and entirely lacking in charm. I envisioned coach loads of tourists there in the summer and was relieved to be there out of season (in May!) so the hotel was only 1/4 full if that.

“Perfect”

After a long day of hiking in the beautiful park, we decided to take a break from the simple sobes and got the perfect experience--great view, good food, all facilities above par. The price is probably too high for the area, expecially post-season, but cannot complain about what we received.

There's no doubt that Plitvice Lakes is a stunning stunning national park and well worth a visit at any time of year - we had a wonderful time in the park and were in awe of the lakes and waterfalls.

However... the Hotel Jezero left us distinctly uninspired. Having stayed in a 4* Hotel all the previous week (Diamant in Porec - amazing hotel!) we were less than impressed with the tired lodgings that greeted us in the park.

The rooms were fine, but NOT 4*. If it was a 3* and we had paid less, then fine, but we hadn't! The view was stunning (ask for lake view rooms on floor 4 Green wing), and the hotel was like an alpine lodge. However, there was no shower screen, a lightswith was hanging off and when you emptied the bath the water erupted from a metal plate next to the toilet and flooded the place!

The 'A la carte' restaurant is just not worth it. Don't even bother. It is 4 or 5 times the price of eating out elsewhere in the area and the food is very mediocre. The staff are something else though. Our waitress was so uninterested we were tempted to walk out without paying - I don't think she would have even noticed! The lobby bar staff were equally uninterested and downright rude. I walked up to get a beer and the waitress slammed down her cloth, sigh and rolled her eyes before taking my order.

The reception staff are nice and the hotel is clean. There is no evidence of the advertised 'pool' and the 'gym/health centre' seemed to be a room with some stacking chairs in... There is a free large jacuzzi but you have to pay 40 kn for 1/2 and hour in the sauna.

For the money and the lack of services, I would urge anyone to book one of the many guest houses in the area, many of which are close to entrance 1. I met someone who had stayed in one for £30 for 2 people per night. The room was clean and the land lady was friendly.

Overall, If Jezero was a 3* hotel I wouldn't be writing this review. However, it says it is 4* and it most definitely doesn't offer 4* service. As they are a tourist trap for hundreds of coach tours they seem to have a captive audience and don't care about retaining customers.
