“Worn but worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Staying in Plitvice National Park is worth the worn and amenity-poor aspects of this hotel. Unlike many Croatian hotels, this hotel provided a regular mattress and box spring for a bed. That was a welcome relief since hiking without a good night's sleep is not much fun. The bathroom had a high, granite vanity with lots of space. The windows opened and the room had adequate space. Unfortunately, wi-fi was available in in the lobby and was painfully slow. There is no elevator, so anyone above the ground floor must haul their luggage up the stairs. There is a large dining room for breakfast and supper, and the food was acceptable. One issue was the fact that for a dining room which seated hundreds of people for breakfast, there was only one coffee machine which brewed each individual cup and caused a long line to form. The hotel appears to have been built with customary Communist sterility and needs a facelift for the 21st century. That said, being so close to the park's trails and having decent beds makes it tolerable.

This hotel was convenient for entering the park. The rooms were clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. We had a small refrigerator in our room. There is a free parking lot. Breakfast is included and included the usual hot and cold selections along with juices and coffee. The building is overall very sterile looking.

There only a handful of options to stay within the park itself, but given the logistical advantges, travelers are very much a captive audience here. This hotel was OK, just. It had that 'tour group-itis' feel to it. Staff were understandably over-used to dealing with the mass crowds and as a result, there was a rather, faceless impersonal touch to the whole affair. *Length-of-stay tip: if seeing this notoriously rainy park in the sun means a lot to you, then you are advised to book a 5 day or even full-week stay. It rained solid for the 4 days that were there, a heart-breaking experience for we shutterbugs, given the fact that this trip was our long-awaited re-booking after our original booking here nine years ago was cancelled after a serious health issue. I am done. The end.

This was an interesting hotel. At times it reminded me of the Overlook Hotel, but that was just my imagination. It appears that this was built during the Communist-era as it just has that feel about it. Nice and comfortable rooms, good food at the restaurant (dinner and breakfast) and easy to explore the park on foot form there.

I don't know why you would stay anywhere else. This is right inside the park. The rooms are like suites. Wonderful updated bathroom with a nice deep bathtub to take a long hot bath after walking the park all day. It was just a short walk to the park entrance and the ferries. We loved the buffet breakfast and had an outstanding dinner there as well. This is a park you MUST visit, and I would stay here above anywhere else.

Hotel Plitvice is the ideal base right in the National Park to enjoy the lakes and park properly. Although it isan old communist era building, the architectural design is a delight and has been maintained very well, retaing all the original decor and lighting. The large, almost cafeteria style, restaurant was not inviting and therefore it was a surprise that the dinner was very good. Beware however that there is central heating in the hotel but no a/c. The public rooms were very comfortable but try as we might our bedroom remained hot and airless despite having the windows fully open in not very hot weather.

Needs a serious remodel. Many people on TA said this was a remodel & if it was, it was very poor.

We knew this was an old communist era hotel & it shows.

There are zero ramps & a lot of steps & no one to help with luggage so beware.

The restaurant is downstairs also. It is NOT for handicapped people.

We had the middle level room with one double bed & one single bed. We paid about $20USD for this larger room & felt it was not worth it. Get the cheapest room possible.

Pro’s:
Free parking worth $15USD per day for hotel guests. IF you go into the park on 2 separate days, you would save $30USD.

They validate your park ticket for another day for free. Worth $20USD per person.

You are right in the park so it’s easy to walk to the park entrance. It’s worth the convenience just being in the park & is very acceptable for one of 2 nights. It was better than we thought it would be.

Half board ( = dinner) at 12E per person- reasonable price but food was just fair. Go right when the dining room opens as there are large tour groups who have a prearranged menu & seem to get served first.

We had a view of the park but honestly you can’t see much of it.

Free breakfast was OK- not great but edible & was a buffet.

Cons:
No AC & no screens on the windows

Carpeting was old indoor/outdoor material that needs replacing

Loads of tour groups

Loads of steps & not meant for the handicapped.

No handrails on many of the steps.

Hotel could be very beautiful IF they do a serious upgrade as everything was outdated.

Hotel PC very slow.

Our dinner took almost 2 hours as the tour groups seem to get served first.

Old bathroom, no hair dryers
