We stayed in Hotel Plitvice as a couple for 2 nights in May 2013. It is certainly the ideal location to act as a base for viewing the lakes, being very close to Entrance #2. This is especially useful if you want to avoid the 9:00 am - 3:00 pm period when the walkways are filled with tour groups.
The hotel itself is OK. The rooms are fairly large (we had booked a superior double room) with a comfortable bed, plenty of closet space, a sitting area and a decent sized bathroom. Everything was clean. There are a few negatives though - no lift, no air conditioning in the rooms (when we were there in May, this was fine, but I could imagine it being a bit of a problem in the middle of summer) and no WiFi in the rooms. The internet access on the single lobby computer is quite slow. A previous reviewer mentioned the lack of a safe in the room - that is true, but the reception does have an adequate number of individual safes (that we utilized).
Breakfast (included in our price) was adequate. In contrast to some other reviewers, we thought that the dinner offerings were fairly extensive (including a number of flambe dishes prepared table-side) and the food that we ordered was freshly prepared and sufficient. Unfortunately, the restaurant is set up a little "cafeteria-style", so it does lack atmosphere, although the tables by the windows are better - lowering the brightness of the lights would probably help.
We found the staff to be professional, friendly and helpful in both the hotel and the restaurant. If you want to stay somewhere close to the lakes, this hotel is more than adequate - just don't expect 4/5 star touches.
