“Pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

We found Villa Lika quite by surprise as the large, sterile. no personality hotels on the highway are what grab your attention. VL is nicely situated off the road , with lawn chairs and an outdoor sitting area that look out on the hills and beyond. Our room was on the top floor, bright and spotless. A peek into a first floor room was a bit dark, but still clean and well-appointed. Only one of the three owners was around when we stayed and even though she spoke no English we still got the job done with checking in and payment. Breakfast was okay - nothing special but the dinner that was being served the evening of our arrival looked delicious - wood fired pizza and some sort of meat was on the spit. We probably should have eaten there though we had a more than adequate meal at one of the hotels and I can't remember which one - it probably doesn't matter as they all have the same choices. Location just minutes from the entrance to the park. Park is magnificent and worth the trip - give yourself 4-5 hours to really enjoy - but one night in the area is sufficient. -

We stayed one night here and loved every minute. The owners were so nice and entertaining. You could walk to the park from there. We had our best meal in Croatia here and really spent a long time talking with the owners. The rooms were sooooo clean that you could have eaten off the floor. I will recommend this place in a heart beat.

Great place run by 3 (I think, I was hesitant to ask if it was 2 sisters and daughter or Grandmother, daughter & granddaughter) generations of the family. A beautiful pastoral setting about a 3 minute drive from the National Park trails. Immaculately clean and comfortable . Very good breakfast and I would recommend staying for the great homestyle dinner which finished with delicious, smooth and complementary home made schnapps (slivovitz).

Great place run by 3 sisters. Very close to Plitvice National Park, after a long day of enjoying the park it was fantastic to arrive at Villa Lika. They were very welcoming and made us feel like we were at home. We were with 8 friends and we were able to sit around one of their tables taking the fabulous views of the countryside in their backyard as we played with their dogs. The dinner was home cooked and it was the best on our trip, very traditional. The best stop on our trip.

My mother and I stayed at Villa Lika for 2 nights while visiting the nearby Plitvice National Park. The rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance of the park and the surrounding homes and countryside are picturesque.

Where Villa Lika really excelled was the service. The family there immediately made us feel welcome and at home. Serving excellent food fresh from their gardens, we enjoyed all of our meals there (dinners & breakfasts) and felt that it was a great value.

I found that there was no language barrier as the sisters working there had more than adequate English skills to communicate anything we could have wanted or needed, and even just to make small talk over drinks.

I would recommend Villa Like to anyone without any hesitations.

Villa Lika was just lovely. The whole family was so welcoming when we arrived. Everything is so lovely and fresh and clean. Dinner was amazing, we had fresh trout and the goulash. Great value and breakfast was just as good. We were traveling as two couples and had the 3rd floor bedrooms with our own bathrooms, very comfortable beds and pillows. We feel very privileged to have found such a lovely place to stay when visiting the lakes and it was so easy to reach the lakes from the hotel. English was definitely not a problem as Susan spoke fluent English.

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the national park. Great location for outside of the park, and while it may be a bit expensive, it was worth it to not pay double the price and be within the park. My family is Croatian, and this was the most authentic experience I could have asked for. The owners may speak limited English, but if you try, it's really not that hard to communicate with them. After all, you're in the middle of a tiny village in rural Croatia...you shouldn't expect anyone to speak English anyways. The dinner was AMAZING, worth the 15E. Salad, main course of your choice, dessert, and Suzanna (the youngest daughter) walks around and pours shots of the mother's homemade Grappa (plum brandy). The parents (aka the older couple who hang around) live on a farm 15 minutes down the road, where all of the vegetables, fruits, everything is grown that is included in the meals. The room was comfortable, air-conditioned, and CLEAN. You don't even really need to pay for the breakfast, the fresh fruit is free...Suzanna loved my friend and me, and packed us a lunch with fresh fruit, yogurt, water, etc. the day we went to the lakes, without even asking. They even let us use their washing machine to do laundry, as we were on a long back-packing trip. They made us feel a part of their family, which is what the Croatian tradition is all about. It was a home away from home! I would never stay anywhere else in this area. Highly recommended!
