Very nice place to relax, modren style, nicely decorated sorrounding with flowers and trees, clean, offering a lot of activities.

Room Tip: It might be a bit noisy in apartments near swimming pools.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

We have spent 4 days during first week of May. Nature is beautifull, views and sceenery are very nice.
But if you have ever been to any respectable 4 star hotel or 5 star you will feel that you are beening a shearing sheep from morning till down. In the beggining it takes a day or two to stop rationalising and finding excuses why nothing is as it should be.
240 Euro per night and the food quality and asortment is not more than 3 star, cook is unskilled improviser, dinner is the same, they use leftovers from brekfats as a cold starters for dinner, desserts are grocery store prepacked dough and cakes, meet and fish are third class quality all frozen prior to cooking. They are running out of coffie, fruits, dinner dishes all the time during the meals and replacing it slowly, waitting time can be 10-15min (number of guests was not more than 20% occupacy) It takes another 10-15 min to get your table ready if there were peple sitting before you. It happend 2 times the waitter forgot and did not show up at all. We were eating dinner withouth cloth and napkins.
Waitters are not organised, they are not trained, not friendly and they show you that one additional request (e.g. please can we, not him, close the terrace door during the breakfast, it is very windy) is one rquest too much. From this point on he ignored us.
Not to mention that breakfast coffee is additionaly charged, parking space is additionaly charged (do not forget that hotel is way out from city center with huge empty parking space all around it).
If I write all the details it would be several pages long, so I will stick just to those things that cames first to my mind to give you an impression why you will feel robbed and sad and you will defenetly want to forget this experience and price as soon as possible.
Rooms are very small, balcony even smaller. Our upper neighbours were smoking and all the ashes was all over our chairs and clothes, the balcony floor has two open lines along the entire length so all your neighbours do is folling directly onto your head.
The balcony view was very limited huge trees are blocking it. Room is decent 4 stars. And mini bar is ok.
All over the room and hotel as such there are traces of poor or no maintenance. Cracks in the bathroom tilse, wall, dirty wall, paint and construction marks not cleaned at all, not to mention ants everywhere.
Spa and pools are story for itselfe ... dressing room has no toilet, showers are dirty all the time, water is cold, pool is dirty, not maintained, cracks and staine marks, fungus and algae everywhere.
Pool bar staff is even worse than hotel staff. At 5 p.m. you can not get even a sandwich because it is when their shift end and they go home, just one waitter stays and he will serve you only drinks.
Not to mention that is only place to get the food between the meals.
As mentioned I could go on and on ... to make it short ...if you want to have a nice vacaton or/and decent value for money please do stay away from this place.
I have read trip advisor reviews too late (after allready made a payment) majority are very good reflection of a reality.

Having travelled extensively in Croatia, this was one of the most soulless hotels we have been to. There was no problem with the accommodation just the feel of the place.....cold and antiseptic. As a perfect example, at dinner we opted for the Chef's choice 5 course dinner, they managed to serve the entire thing in 45 mins! Some kind of record! We did feel as if we were on a conveyor belt. I think this hotel was built for the Russian market ... very designery not a lot of class.

If u are looking an exclusive place or at least the one which justifies its 5 star rating - u should stay away from Novi. Credit must be given to the amazing architecture of the hotel and the spa - and the spacious fitness room sporting all possible pieces of equipment and facing the sea is simply breath-taking. And that would be all. On the negative side, you would pay a 5star price to share the hotel facilities with not only the inhabitants of the apartment village but also the members of the public who are allowed against a daily fee. As for the welcome, we were "greeted" by a surly concierge who could not be bothered to help us with off-loading the luggage, or tell us where and how to park while being checked in. We had a room which really looked liked the pictures, if you do not have a zoom or suffer from sight problems. The bathroom was sporting unpainted stains, there are cracks, stains, chips and dysfunctional pieces of equipment everywhere. There were two tiny child-size armchairs (no cushions) and a table without a top for sitting on the balcony, so your highly-priced drinks and glasses must be kept on the floor. The hotel booklets available in the room are either deceiving and plainly incorrect (different references for the cash machine) or cryptic (how to use internet or the minibar, access the safe etc). Too few deck chairs, so get up early and be ready to fight for the one. The beach is public, small, and not of much use. The dinner buffet is generous (very good meat and fish quality, deplorable desserts) yet down to earth, nothing close to the 5 star level. The wine list includes only Croatian wines at exorbitant prices. Breakfast better is better, with no international tea selection (only Podravka, apparently a local brand), and poor bread assortment, coffee poured once after a a long wait. Staff poorly trained, mostly correct, sometimes friendly, and service altogether chaotic. At best you may go there for a day, take a plunge, go to the gym, and make a few pictures from the terrace - abandon all hopes to have a drink there as nobody would be asking you whether you would like to have the one. Btw, it is a family hotel.

All the descriptions on how marvelous the design of this resort is, are true ... if you like to take fashionable pictures of architecture with or without your beloved company, the Novi Spa Hotel & Resort is really a nice setting.
But don't zoom in too close ! you might pick-up one of the many cracks, broken glass fences, or simply deteriorated surfaces. To my opinion this resort is too big to maintain. It currently has more the 35 "blocks" of apartments (each with about 10 luxurious apartments, but apparently not all with the same level, and some quite a distance (500 m) from the centre, and there are still blocks being constructed... Simply managing the regular cleaning and checking of the apartments needs a elaborated staff.
So yes it overpriced, overrated, ... but nice. We stayed in an apartment for 3 days, so we did not care about the hotel service ... the housekeeping was good (every day new towels, ...) our apartment was very close to the Spa... so we were satisfied. Except that at arrival the doors of the second bedroom and bathroom was locked ...easily opened with a table knife :-). The golfcar system sucks ... you need to wait longer then necessary.
Also the towel system on the beds near the pools sucks (you trade in your card for a towel, but then you need to find a sunbed to lay on... no sandy beaches !), just be a bit assertive and claim a bed that is clearly abandoned, if you want one.
I would not recommend it to my friends !

I don't even know where to begin...the overall impression is that of a hotel that it has been half abandoned and is being operated by amateurs who don't take pride in their property. Obviously some people invested a lot of money into buying the property as the location is beautiful and the property huge, but the service is so terrible and the "luxury" apartments we stayed in are in disrepair, unfinished and horribly maintained. Wires sticking out, rooms half painted, terraces overrun with weeds and dirt, the worst housekeeping staff I have ever encountered. One day we asked for a couple extra pillows. 3 phone calls and 6 hours later the rudest housekeeper I've ever met arrived with one and said that is all we are entitled to and stomped away while we were in the middle of talking to her! Seriously?! 5 star? That wouldn't even happen in a 2 star. Besides all the ridiculous mismanagement, honestly the most disturbing thing is that directly next to our apartment is an enormous half built construction site with a 70-100 foot sheer drop with absolutely no fences, so anyone could just walk or drive into it and fall in and without a doubt, die. No signs warning you, just a drop. We jokingly call it Ground Zero but it really isn't funny. As a result, we never let my children out of our apartment to play alone because it is that scary. There is a pitiful sense that nobody really cares which is a shame because it has the basic infrastructure of, for example, a Marriott vacation resort where we have stayed before (big apartments, nice views...) but with complete neglect. Avoid at all costs! We did however stay at a fantastic 5 star Radisson Blu resort in Dubrovnik that was phenomenal. Highly recommended. But stay away from the Novi unless you don't expect high quality and are happy with old Soviet style mismanagement and spend your money elsewhere. At first glance it seems nice but very quickly you see all the unfortunate flaws.
Croatia is great and there are wonderful other places.
