“Not a 5* hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

This was our first trip with 5 months and 20 months old kids. We have chosen this hotel due to very good deal offered by Megabon (50% off) and because we were staying in apartments when Novi resort was just at its beginnings.
So we wanted to see what happened after 6 years.
In general I think the idea was great, but the constructions work went wrong on so many levels. Actually hotel needs renovations already before it’s finished. We stayed in Junior Suite which was a great size for family of four. Loved big balcony with view on sea, where kids could play. However the floor of balcony was made from material because of which we had to use slippers otherwise feet were full of splinters.
Bathroom had so many mistakes on the walls that was hard to watch them. Bedroom was comfortable and still enough place for baby cot. Layout of Junior Suit was perfect for us.
Plenty of halls to connect different parts of hotel, but for us it was fun as they use interesting lightening. This is location where winds can be very strong and then probably each guest can really appreciate halls.
They claim that this is the biggest spa resort – I don’t know on basis of what. Pools where really off. Woods around pools and Jacuzzis were dangerously slippery and floors in Jacuzzy are made from material which was too rough. Because the water is salty you can’t see the walls and floors and my knees looked at the end like I was thrown on rocks, because I was continuously hitting the walls.
In price was included breakfast, which was also far from 5* hotel. No fresh orange juice, pate was private labelled (something I never imagined to find in 5* hotel), chees old. Very good was homemade bread and desserts.
Service was great. All very friendly and helpful.
Because we were in April swimming pools for children were still closed.
Great to walk to centre of Novi Vinodolski.
Hotel should be 3* at the most and still needs plenty of work.

I could not rank this hotel more than 3*. It is apparently, that there was a hotel before. I believe that architecture plans were very interested, but constructors never finished this hotel till the end. It is very nice, when you look at it from far away. Nice for catalogue and web site. When you see it from close, it is disaster. I write no soul hotel in title, because there are a lot of thinks to repair, but nobody do this. Broken glass on fence, broken mirrors at SPA, broken towel holder in SPA, broken mirror holder in De Luxe room, terrible surrounding (vested parts from hotel are hidden in nearest surrounding), beach is not renovated and it not comes together with new SPA...
Gastronomy is disaster. Lets start with breakfast: you could only find orange juice nectar and ice tea nectar. Water and champagne were hidden from all. I expect at list 100% fruit from branded manufacturers or better, to make it fresh squeezed on they own. Nectar is to cheep to be true. I can only praise goat cheese and chocolate cakes. Croatia has very good cheese, very good meat products for breakfast, but there was cheapest turkey salami, ground salami. They could offer you fresh baked eggs, but only when someone is there. Read not necessary.

Dinner: Table cloths were torn and dirty from previous guests. Plates had traces of washing. Spoons run out and nobody has noticed. They clean table, when you had already two finished dishes on your table. Note, this was in October when hotel was empty.
I can say a nice word for offering 5 course diner on Saturday. Meat and fish menu. But all had warm appetizer from meat and pasta. Not suitable, when you decide for fish menu. Cold appetizer were cold breaded small shrimps. I can not accept cold breaded food as a speciality or enjoyable food, no matter it is meet steak, fish or shrimp.
Next was fish soup. Very tasty, but only from cream, not from fish.
Then comes meat warm appetizer, which was better to avoid.
And then main dish - great fish called sea frog or Angler. OK it was fresh, baked proper and tasty, but killed with creamy full of sunflower oil sauce. Disaster.
I got salad, green salad. Two big lettuce in one small cup. Not to mention they were brown coloured. No spiced and served with oil and colourless vinegar.
Because I love me and may money, I will never return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Standard room has no view, small balcony, plaster is crumbling, scotch tape on the ceiling. De Lux...

What a strange place. The architects had a field day when designing this vast white complex overlooking the sea. Land must be cheap in N Croatia as I have never seen so much wasted space and though we were there in the beginning of September, the season seemed to be well and truly over. We were in a large group (60+) and were almost the only people staying, which was great for us but not so good for the hotel. Huge reception area with friendly helpful staff, nice bar area in the corner, glass, trendy furniture and bright colours all over, views from every upper window. We had a very comfortable small suite with small balcony overlooking the main pool and sea. All was clean and modern though one wonders why the doors are so strong with bank vault like locks...Excellent Occitaine bathroom smellies, good bathroom altogether, plenty of storage space, fridge and coffee making gear. However, it is the 1st place I have ever stayed in where they charge for the coffee and milk. Most odd. There was free wi-fi in the common areas but not in the rooms. Odd too. We explored the miles of empty corridors with their strange coloured lighting, only the main pool out of 7 or 8 were in use, vast areas seemed to be shut up. Large dining room with average buffet food for supper and a nice breakfast with freshly fried eggs. Very expensive local wines - €35 a bottle which was silly as the Chillean wines were €10 less. Be prepared to die of thirst while waiting for your wine and also, another oddity, they refused point blank to bring us a jug of water. The waiter explained the could only sell bottled water or bring tap water in glasses. We opted for glasses. How stupid is that? If you are into spas and chilling by the pool, it's a great place, though I think best avoided during the school holidays if peace and quiet is your thing.

Room Tip: Upper rooms have the sea views.
