“We stopped for coffee and ice cream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

Makarska is the Croatian Riviera. We stopped to buy honey, fig conserve, and other natural products of the surrounding area at the market. We were lucky to get excellent fruits too.

We parked outside the hotel on the promenade, and enjoyed great coffee and ice cream. Hotel staff were very friendly and we got service with smiles.

Stayed at this hotel twice during april 2014. Both nights we had halfboard. The food is very good, varied and the buffet is with a selection of cold and hot food including salads and desserts. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds and ample Space. Nice bathroom and very clean everywhere. Free internet in the lobby. There is a nice bar facing the Beach. Stone Beach as in most places i Croatia. Playground and indoor swimmingpool. The hotel is also a rehab center and is therefore very suitable for the disabled, wheelchairs etc. Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

Great hotel, if you have a hire car you get a pass for a nearby car park, just a slight problem parking somewhere to check in to get the pass! The meals in the restaurant outside were superb. Shame we can't say the same about the breakfast. We stayed 3 nights and the best breakfast was the last, a party had breakfast before us and there was much more available that morning. Coincidence? The second morning it was over an hour to go before the end of breakfast and when we asked if there were more rolls or croissants we were told in no uncertain terms NO by a rather officious waiter. The girls the morning before couldn't have been more helpful. We had spacious clean rooms with a marina view.

excellent location to enjoy the town of the locals (as opposed to the beach end, full of package tourists and discos), in the centre overlooking the sea, only moments from shops, restaurants and cafes, a pebble beach for paddling, and everything one might want to get to know the "local" (as opposed to tourist view of) Croatia. Two minutes walk from the regular ferry to the island of Brac, which was a good excursion (albeit less frequent on winter schedule)
Slightly oldfashioned interiors, excellent discounted price (we had not haggled, just offered to us as it was end of season), for the last available sea view room. Ours was 3rd floor, disadvantaged by sloping bedroom ceiling near the window, so you had to peer out to enjoy the magnificent pay but on the plus side we got no noise but a fab view if we stood at the window. Other rooms on the 3rd floor had a great balcony and better outlook but probably cost a lot more and we were delighted with ours, including fridge.
Only slight negatives; no swimming pool (but we were in town, not at the seaside area which is only package tourism) and a shower without bath. But that would not stop me recommending as the best place to stay, location could not be beaten, nor value, and staff were helpful. They have a private car park arrangement (free) less than 5 minutes' walk away

Room Tip: front ones have fantastic view but to avoid noise ask for top (third) floor - there is a lift.

We had a great time in the hotel Biokovo. We were lucky to have a great room on the second floor at the front of the hotel with a beautiful view over the sea. A bit noisy at times but lovely to watch the world go by and hearing the chitter chatter from the restaurant. I guess if we had closed the window it would have been less noisy. I think from what I have seen the rooms at the back are a bit dark and dingy and the view not so nice. As for the food, I agree with a previous review... There is scope for improvement. For a start the dishes could be labelled to indicate what type of meat they contain . A picture of pig cow or sheep would be enough. I don't eat lamb and I had to guess. The food could also be laid out better as it gets very crowded at times around the buffet area. The food is not particularly sophisticated but we always found something we liked. You can easily assemble a lovely dinner from the lean fish/ meats and salads available or go for the more standard sauces /chips options. I am sure that the standard of the food in the front restaurant is much higher. On the whole a very nice hotel in a fantastic location.

Hotel was very busy with visitors from all over Europe, and as a consequence the buffet half board meals, particularly dinner, were not very satisfactory. This is a shame, as the meals served to the general public in the terrace restaurant are superb.

All staff were very friendly and attentive, despite the fact that hardly anybody ordered drinks with their evening meal. Problem with the evening meals was that the busy atmosphere was not conducive to relaxing with a drink, and for most of us it was as quick as we could get in and out of dinner. We then went elsewhere for a drink in more relaxing surroundings. Despite the fact that most of the guests were couples, most tables were arranged to seat at least 4.

The self service areas were in the corners of the dining room and that made them quite difficult to use when the restaurant was busy. The food was very well cooked, but was often tepid and unpalatable. Basically, if you weren't in the first wave of diners at 1900, then you were usually disappointed. Also, when the main courses were served with tagliatelli in the same serving dish it caused difficulties for most guests. The potatoes were usually served in a separate dish, so why not the pasta and rice?

Aside from the food issues the hotel was great, although if we went back we would take bed and breakfast only. Makarska is teeming with very reasonably priced restaurants. The central location was a big plus, and the only other negative was that the sea view was largely obscured by a palm tree across the street.

Be aware that the central location is extremely noisy, although the double glazing is very efficient at shutting out all the din.

All in all a very nice hotel, let down by the buffet dining room arrangements.

Thank you for your nice words regarding on our hotel, "unfortunally" you have been at hotel during the top season, obviouslly, this is how I can explain your claim s regarding on crowded restaurant during the dinner s.
Maybe, next time you should visit Makarska in spring our autumn which is also very nice and warm season?
In any case, thank you for your visit, and I hope you will be back soon!

regards!

We went to Makarska on August 2013 for a holiday trip with my boyfriend and my cousin.

The best thing about Hotel Biokovo is it's location. From the hotel you have only a few minutes walk anywhere in Makarska center (the harbour side). That is really something to pay for. Of course there may be a lot of other hotels with a great location too. It's about what (restaurants, clubs, stores, beach..) you want to have near..

The breakfest was below average and the staff was friendly or helpful only if you asked something (when we were leaving). They didn't even say hello when you walked in. That may be because they didn't seem to speak english if it wasn't necessary.

We booked a room with a balcony. That was a bit of a disappointment. The balcony was kind of a "French balcony" as we call it Finland. Anyhow it didn't work as we had planned. Should have booked a room with terrace I guess. The room was a little dated but it was clean. There was a nice and quite a new bathroom though.

The free WiFi worked well all around the hotel. The cleaner lady was cheer and sunny every morning! If you compare the price with what you get, .. we're not quite satisfied. But with a smaller pricetag we would come back again. We're going back to Makarsa for sure!

Room Tip: If you want a real balcony or terrace (where you have space to sit, walk, eat, drink) choose a room...

Dear Sasuli,

thank you for taking your time to make some overlook of our hotel.
Also, thank you for nice words regarding on location, cleaning lady, new bathrom, good wi-fi connection....by my opinion for 3 star hotel that is the most important, I hope you agree?
Regarding on balcony, what you got is standard balcony, if you want room with terrace, then you should booked- room with terrace, with supplement.
...and finally I hope to see you in future again, once again thank you for your review...

kind regards!
