“Very nice hotel in a beautiful town”

Hotel Meteor

Aug 7, 2008

Hotel is very nice. Clean, the staff very friendly. Rooms are large enough and the airconditioning was working very well. 15 chanel on tv in several different languages. Food was okay, I was expecting more choices, but it tasted okay. The pool has a salt water in it but the water temperature was good so not much of a problem there. The hotel is right on the beach and close to everything. There is a lot of bars and restaurants. The only thing I didn't like was the rocky beach, it hurt my feet getting in and out of the water. Other than that our stay was great. The city of Makarska is beautiful. We will defiitly go back again.

“An excellent holiday based at the Meteor Hotel, Makarska”

Hotel Meteor

Jul 30, 2008

The Meteor is a large modern hotel, best described as 'striking', right on the, pedestrian only, promenade of the bay adjacent to the Makarska town bay. The 'beach' is stoney and suitable footware and beach cushions are essential. The promenade walk to the seafront of Makarska town takes about 10 minutes. There is a supermarket 5 minutes walk away. The Meteor has a card operated car park just accros the road. Avis has a hire car office in the hotel reception. A nearly new Ford Fiesta (this model was a free upgrade from the one booked) cost us £125 for 4 days. We had booked the hire car in the UK prior to leaving for the holiday. There were no insurance 'extras' to pay and the fuelling policy was 'collect full and return full'. A local travel agent also has an office in the hotel.

Our hotel bedroom was on the small side but was adequate and clean.

We only used the pool area for sunbathing but, as ever, there were inadequate numbers of loungers and parasols.

Dining tables were allocated to us for the duration of our visit and were quite tightly packed. Waiters were friendly and the buffet food was ok. No complaints there. We arrived late (23.00h) so were pleased to find a cold (salad) meal waiting in our room for us.

Reception staff were not always as helpful as we would have liked.

Evening entertainment was generally a female vocalist, with backing, out of doors in the poolside area.

Air conditioning was very good (a week of sunshine brought temperatures into the 30's so we appreciated the cooling).

We liked the Meteor and would recommend it (acknowledging the few adverse points made above) and would return there if we ever decide to re-visit the attractive Makarska Riviera.

We came back from Makarska on saturday and while it's a lovely town Hotel Meteor is dreadful.

The overall standard is very poor in the hotel, tables& chairs in lobby are very shabby. Staff were very unhelpful and some were just downright rude. We were staying on a B&B rate and thank heavens for that, because the restaurant was appalling, just like a canteen from a university in the mid 80's. My wife tried to bring 1 banana up to our room after breakfast and was shouted at by the staff and the said piece of fruit was then taken off her at the door!

The strip club door( which is unacceptable in a family hotel) is directly across from the restaurant door! The strippers are at the main beach entrance every night touting for business.

The rooms are very small and could do with a lick of paint, but are otherwise clean.

I must say that the location is excellent and only seconds from the beach, which is just aswell given that there are only about 20- 30 sunbeds around the pool. There are 5 time as many tables( which are not used) as there aare sunbeds in the pool area. As the previous reviewer said, the public areas need some maintainance and repair. We have been to Cavtat near Dubrovnik previously and judging by the accomadation there, the Meteor is way below 4 star standard. My advise is to pay the extra few bob and stay in the Park Hotel next door which is beautiful.

fantastic position ,right on beach but not 4 star, dusty tiny rooms ,swimming pool and surrounding area needs revamping as tiles missing cracked and in need of grouting.
restaurant food very poor, fresh plums on breakfast menu moldy or bad, cutlery dirty and restaurant like a holiday camp canteen.
strip club in basement,
we were given a better room after 7 days after finding bee/wasp coccoon in curtains.
shame really as it is in beautiful area.

“Not a 4*”

Hotel Meteor

Jun 25, 2008

The Meteor is in a lovely location surrounded by mountains and the beach at the front a very attractive hotel. The downside is the food and accommodation is not comparable with 4* hotels you stay at in Spain, Italy etc, breakfast ok but be prepared to queue for your T and coffee, I suggest you each get 2 cups at a time. Dinner ..... say no more.
