We liked the hotel, but thought that it wasnt a 4* hotel.
Both pools were lovely.
The peolple are friendly. The location is excellent, only a few minutes stroll into the town centre. Views of the sea & mountains are breath taking.
We went on a trip to Biokovo Mountains, which was stunning, the lunch was one of the best meals we had during our stay. Other meals were ok but all places had exactly same menu, which became monotonous. One restaurant which we did like is by the marina in Makarska and is called The Adriatico, the food and service there was excellent.
Another two we would recommend is Riva, on the front just up from the ferry, looks expensive from outside but wasnt. Also El Toro, along from church square in the centre of town

Mixed comments about this hotel:
Location - Perfect. It's right next to the sea, literally 10 seconds from the the hotel.
Room - Not top class but pleasant and absolutely fine for 2 people but there is a bed-setee and if that was used to make it in to a family room, then it would be very cramped.
Public areas - Again, not top class but acceptable. The reception area has large leather sofas which are comfortable. The small bar is very smokey and not very nice. The conservatory which has limited availability is very nice (Reserved for Saga guests outside high season).
Outside areas - attractive.
Dining room - like a school canteen
Food - Just about acceptable. You would imagine lots of fresh fish & fruit on the Adriatic coast. Fish dishes were very limited. Main courses fairly bland. Poor range of desserts - Fruit salad is tinned. Rice pudding - Yuk. Nice ice cream.
Staff - All pleasant.

We have just returned from staying in Hotel Meteor for 2 weeks with friends and had a wonderful time. The hotel was of its 4star qualilty, we had a side room with a view of the sea, town and mountains - what more could you ask for. Food was served as a buffet stlye and although limited on choice (especially if you arrived late) all was well presented. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and our Thomas Cook rep Julie was lovely too and although we didn't need her help she did contact us a couple of times to ask if we were enjoying our stay. Hired a car for 3 days and would recommend visits to Mostar, Split and Krka National Park - all being interesting in their own way! Would recommend using the A1 toll road between Split and Makarska - toll fee £3.70! The hotel is situated on the beach and away from the main town but within a 10 minutes you could be in the harbour area. Lunchtime - we would recommend you visited a taverner next door to Bistro Berlin which was to the right of the hotel facing the sea - waiter never wrote out your order and always got it right! The sizzling lasagne was the men's favourite whilst us ladies enjoyed the Italian salad! We would recommend a visit to Croatia a must!

My adult daughter and myself stayed in the Meteor Hotel for one week. The rooms were comfortable and clean and cleaned well each day. The pool was large enough to accomdate everyone and close enough to the beach to just run down for a swim. The beach was extremely stony and not suitable to sit on and swim shoes were required to walk on the stones in the water. This beach is not suitable at all for children as there was an extremely sudden drop into very deep water very quickly. However it was very clean and lovely to swin in once one was careful not to go out too far.
The breakfast in the hotel was like Picadilly circus with everyone rushing around to get their food at various stations. Often there were queues to get tea, coffee or toast so they needed more stations for these. The bowls of cut up fruit were tinned which amazed me in a country with so much fresh and lovely fruit and the fruit juice was very poor quality.
The weather changed dramarically during our week and temps dropped by 10degrees overnight. We were unable to turn the air conditioning onto warn air and we were unable to turn on the radiator in the bathroom when the weather turned cold.
Most of the restaurants offered similar menus and things were quite cheap but we were unable to find any variation in food.
It was a lovely place and the people and staff were very nice. There was a team of 4 'Entertainment' Staff and they really made the holiday for us. They were good fun and encouraged us to join in on the activities they organised which meant we got to meet others. Generally the age profile of residents in our hotel was 50+ with not many english speaking people. The indoor pool was very useful when the weather turned bad but we were dissapointed to learn that our stay did not include use of the sauna whcih seemed strange seen as it was running all day anyway.
I would certainly return to Croatia and visit another resort the next time.

We travelled to Markarska at the end of July and stayed in the hotel Meteor. The hotel was fine and better than the reviews we had read on this site. The rooms were adequate in size with a large balcony. The rooms were cleaned daily at approximately the same time with clean towels daily if required. The food in the hotel was better than we had experienced elsewhere. There was a good selection in the evening and everyone is allocated their own table. The people at reception etc were helpful and the Holiday Options rep, Meri was excellent and very informative. Not just there to sell the trips, of which we went on five and they were all good value.

The beach outside the hotel was crowded but it was the height of the season. The outdoor pool was very clean and the indoor pool was an added extra bonus, hardly used at all.

The location of the hotel is excellent, just on the beach and a 5 - 10 minute stroll to the town centre and harbour.

Would definitely recommend the hotel and Makarska.

One comment, there could have been a little more entertainment for older children staying at the hotel and a bit more going on for them.
