Returned yesterday 11 may 2008. What a beautiful island !Scenery stunning. Stayed at the 4* Marco Polo, no complaints, although the hotel was very quiet as it was the start of the season, so I would advise you to go later in may or late august/ early september for a little more "life" on the island and avoid the crowded summer season. I must admit everywhere wasn't quite "open" during our one week stay. The hotel staff were lovely and really helpful. Nice outdoor and kiddie pool, whirlpool not in action but they were working on it! Lovely fitness centre and indoor pool too. Therapies also offered at a reasonable rate. Nice, clean rooms ours had a stunning view, (room123). The food was perfectly acceptable, in my opinion. Breakfast and evening meals were varied and there was always a fair selection (dont forget, you are in a foreign country). If you want a big mac you wont get it on this island! Plenty of bars cafes for eating out and not expensive. Ask in the local travel agents by the old town about trips/excursions, the hotels do their own bookings too at reasonable rates, avoid booking with holiday rep! Antun the hotel taxi driver is helpful and friendly, he offers a lovely island tour in his new Mercedes people carrier, highly reccomended! Use the water taxis, they are fun and provide a lovely view along the coast. Long journey from uk, (no delays either way) two and a half hour flight, two and a half hour coach, 20 min. ferry (lands at hotel) but worth it for a holidy with a difference. Try it and see for yourself! P.S. dont forget to visit Dubrovnick...take the hydrofoil, ask local travel agent for details. Hope you enjoy Korcula (prounounced Kortula) as much as my sister and I did, clean turquoise sea, blue sky, fresh air and so relaxing... Would return to-morrow..... if only!
