“Perfect hotel on Fantastic and Beautiful Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

Hvar is for sure on the most beautiful places in the world.
And this hotel is the write place to stay.
We loved every thing: the hotel, the service, the location, the roof pool, the view, the breakfast on the terrace…

We had originally booked to stay at the sister hotel, Riva, located acorss the harbour from the Adriana but the month before our holiday we received an email to say that the Riva would be closed and we were being moved to the Adriana. We had a look at the website and since it looked lovely (and was more expensive) we didn't mind the move at all!

We arrived on the catamaran which stops 2 minutes away from the hotel. If you can, get the catamaran from split rather than the ferry. The ferry is more regular but the catamaran is faster and you don't have to travel from Stari Grad - you are right at the hotel! There was a man waiting there with a 'Hotel Adriana' sign so we went towards him but he said he was waiting for someone else...so off we went to the hotel on our own, only for the man to follow us a minute later with no other guests! Strange!!

Checking in was quick and friendly and when we got to our room we were delighted. Having stayed in some basic accommodation in Dubrovnik and Split, this was like luxury! It was very modern and not as small as I'd thought it would be after reading some reviews! We didn't have a view as we were at the side of the hotel but our doors opened onto a small terrace which would have been great in the summer.

Hvar itself was lovely. It was October so most things were closed but we enjoyed the quiet. There wasn't alot to do at that time of year but we did alot of walking (mostly in the rain), taking in the stunning views from the Fort and walking as far round the island as we could.

Breakfast in the hotel was lovely and the staff were really friendly. We ate dinner once and it was not good, probably the worst we had on our whole trip. Bland, tasteless and like it had come out of a packet! However, there are plenty of places to eat round about so I'd go out to eat instead. The bar is lovely and has fabulous views...beware of the cocktails though, they are strong!

After getting soaked in the rain on our walk round the island we decided to use the pool and just relax in the sauna/steam rooms. We went to the pool and it was empty. Great, we thought...but then we dipped a toe in and it was freezing. Absolutely ice cold! We asked one of the staff and they said it had been cleaned the day before and would take a few hours to warm up again so we dicided to go back the following day. It was exactly the same. I have no idea why a hotel of this standard would not heat the pool, especially in low season when there is no sun to warm it!

Check out was quick and friendly too and the receptionist was really helpful telling us where to get tickets for the journey back. We got the last catamaran of the day (at 7.30am!!) and it was packed. Its a bit of a scramble getting on and off and the nicely formed queues don't last long...it's the done thing to just barge to the front, it would seem!

I really enjoyed my stay here and had it not been for the dinner and the freezing pool I would have given it 5 stars!

Being right in the Harbor is incredibly romantic, just open the window, and it's right there...you can almost touch it. The room was very small, modern, but had everything we needed. The buffet breakfast was delicous and quite generous. English was a challenge to most of the staff we encountered including the front desk, but we managed. Had a massage there and she was just lovely. Massages help set the tone for a relaxing vacation.

The pool is indoors, not heated, so we only went in once. It was a nice option to have the top floor bar. They serve lunch there as well.

The one downside, which would not have been a downside if we had known, is that we had a car, and we didn't find at the time of our booking, a note on the website or our reservation that it is in a car free zone! We drove and drove trying to figure out how to get there. We finally parked, went into a hotel to ask...and fortunately for us, it was a sister property! They were so nice, they let us park in their lot and then brought our bags over in a little golf cart. We appreciated this service.

We spent three days in Hvar, and would go back. One afternoon we rented a boat...but note, you pay a high enough price to rent, and they didn't tell us we would pay for gas after...which was as expensive as the rental!

Great places to eat...our first favorite was Konoba Menego. It's a simple place, but wonderful cuisine, charming atmosphere and absolutely loved the staff. We almost wanted to go back the next night. We had seafood at Gariful and once again, food was great and such a friendly server. it was not inexpensive. We thought being on an island, the seafood would be more of a deal, but it's not. I splurged and had lobster, we had a great Croatian wine and our server gave us a complimentary after dinner drink (maybe they do this for everyone, or maybe it was our big tab).

I did not stay here, but discovered the bar at the top. It was amazing! This is the best view in town, especially at sunset. I went back three times!

You can't beat the location of the Adriana in Hvar. Right on the waterfront. Staff extremely helpful and friendly, especially the lady in the breakfast room. Rooms are a little on the small side as it is a converted building. Masssage in the spa fantastic. Rooftop indoor pool which with an outdoor sunbathing area. I was concerned about this as I prefer an outdoor pool, but as it has the sunbathing area right next to it, it was great. Great views from up the top bar also. Now the downside is the noise, on certain nights the music is pumping until 3am, so take some earplugs and it is also very pricey, Would I stay here again, yes I would for the location and easy access to the town. Most of the rooms just have an opening window, but I managed to get a room with a very small balcony which was great as I am a smoker.

The best part of this hotel was the spectacular view overlooking Hvar town and the harbor. It is so beautiful one finds it is hard to do anything but stare while sitting on one of the terraces. The rooms are comfortable but tiny-- they remind me of a cruise ship cabin. The salt water pool was very cool but swimmable. The staff was adequate but nothing like the spectacular service we had while staying in nearby Split at the Hotel Vestibul Palace. Overall, I would stay again for the incredible view!

We loved this boutique hotel. Very clean and modern. Rooms are small but very well designed. The roof-top garden was delightful and the pool was great even though it was indoors.
Having breakfast outside in the morning overlooking all the boats who came in for the night was a real treat. It's the perfect place to stay in Hvar

Room Tip: get a room facing the water. Avoid balcony room
