We spent three nights at the Slavija in July. When we first arrived at the hotel mid afternoon we were thrilled, because the location is superb, right on the water. We had a nap before heading off to explore in the cool of the evening. Little did we know that was to be the only sleep we were to get for the entire three days. Our rooms overlooked the port (good point) but also a bar, which we discovered is the "in" place for the young, and stays open all night. Well, not quite but at least until 4am, with non-stop and very loud music. If you are lucky, you get a couple of hours sleep before the first ferry arrives at around 6, again making a terrific din.

So, lesson to be learnt? Ask for a back room on a high floor (not low cos otherwise you will be facing a wall) or at least for a room facing the water which is the post office end not the ferry boat station end. Alternatively, even better, go to Hvar off season. It is truly beautiful, but very crowded in July. The same would go for Trogir, also lovely but overun with tourists.

Loved this hotel, right at the harbour of Hvar town and 2 mins from the beautiful square which dates from the Middle Ages. Asked for a room at the back of hotel with balcony as expected the front to be noisy with all the yachts, ferries etc coming and going all the time. We were lucky to get a 3 bed room for 2 of us with our own large patio at the rere. Breakfast buffet was on the terrace in front of hotel where we watched the world go by and we had a beautiful view of the harbour which changed all the time with the arrival and departure of yachts and ferries. Breakfast was just ok but it kept us going all day! We were bed and breakfast only so didn't eat in hotel in the evenings. We loved Hvar so much, the sea was so clean and great for swimming and the Slavija was in such a great location and great value for money, we will return!

We stayed at Hotel Slavija for two nights last week. Overall, it was a fine experience, as long as your expectations are kept in check. First, the pros: Great location, sea-view rooms had great views, decent shower, decent sized room (by European standards) and the people were nice enough, although not particularly friendly or helpful. The cons: The restaurant in front, although a lovely setting, had below-average food and service. The interior of the hotel is dim and a bit worn-down. And the trade-off for a sea-view room is the noise, as the ferries dock right outside and there can be quite a bit of revelling late into the night. Still, it's a good value.
